The White King, Zorzallaz of the newly form country Ecrye has been terrorizing the Niceouses of Cloud Spire. Ever since he's invaded the coastline, the demon has been stealing the voices and can be identified by his trademarked snow-white figure.
I've been sent out to slaughter this menace, my superiors being painfully aware of the risk he still poses me even if he's a mortal and I immortal. Also, according to survivors, Zorzallaz is quite charming in his own right.
I lay in wait, focused on the shoe-beaten path where the King and his small entourage are expected to pass through, my hand clasped around the hilt of my sword. It remains sheathed until I am ready lest I want it's fiery light to give me away.
I feared something amiss, such as a last minute decision made by the king or being given the wrong location of the pass through, when the entourage appeared to be late. To my relief, they appeared and I pounced. I may be one against a dozen but my sword sliced through the underlings like a hot knife through butter until all who remained was Zorzallaz himself. Even the dumbest of creatures would recognize the danger in the way he carried himself.
I surprised him, he hadn't moved at all while I slaughtered the others.
He whirled on me before I had the chance to lunge at him, silver eyes flashing. A sword of his own, slim with a jagged blade, I hadn't noticed earlier grazed my cheek. Jagged horns bruised my forehead. I fumbled for my fallen sword and half-cleaved his arm off. Jumping to my feet, a strong beat of my wings sent him barreling into a tree. I had gotten a hold of his weapon and snapped it effortlessly.
Within a few steps of his range, he dragged me off my feet and sank his teeth into my calf. Trying to pry open his jaws was futile but a good smack to the head with the but of by sword did the trick. Freed, I hooked my leg around his neck and twisted to a position where I could effectively keep him pinned.
He squirmed, his neck wedged tightly between my thigh and calf, red-faced whether from suffocation or embarrassment. "Wait, Stop-"
"Why should I?" I challenged, driving the tip of my sword through the ground a hairs length from his jaw.
"I surrender," He choked out. "Just, please, get off."
Surrendering already? I loosened my grip just enough for him the breath and speak easier.
"It'd be my honor to be defeated by someone so lethally talented." The symphony of stolen voices hit me full force then.
I shivered. "Flattery won't work on my sweetheart, I appreciate the effort though."
"Lucky I don't flirt with my enemies."
"We are not friends, you mute people!"
"Only those who truly deserve it, Monsters if you will."
"Hmph! That doesn't make you any better than them."
"Doesn't it?"
I glared down at him. "What do you know of justice? We Ninoit are more than capable of punishing villains such as yourself, we need no Demon Vigilantes."
"Owch, must you call me such vile names? You're a warrior buy you need not behave so cold-heartedly."
"You wouldn't understand."
"I still don't doubt you can be a very gentle lady."
"I'm plenty kind to honest people."
"Then how do I earn your trust?"
"Unless you and your underlings learn to be respectable vassals to the predominant gods, I doubt you ever will."
He was quiet for a while. "What do you hate most in life? Perhaps I can dash it from your life."
I shook my head, freeing my sword to return it to it's sheath. "Impossible, you can't kill them."
"I could hide you then." He smiled nervously. "Spare me and I'll grant you sanctuary from whatever, whenever you need it."
"Hm," I crossed my arms. "Let me ask you something else then. I know you don't have one but, hypothetically, lets say you had a brother who you've never gotten along with. How would you handle it?"
"Oddly specific but I'd probably cut them out of my life just short of slitting their throat if I were so angry with them."
"You... Alright." I stood, untangling myself from him.
"Thank you." He sat up, rubbing his throat. "As agreed, you're more than welcome to visit me in Ecrye whenever you wish. My friends would be delighted to meet you."
"Perhaps but now I need an excuse for your survival."
Zorzallaz stood, dusting himself off. "Just this once, I'll let you tell them I was a coward and fled while my underlings held you off."
"Even if they fell for this lie, you'd have an army on your tail under the impression that you're a cowardly idiot."
"It's worth a shot." He winked. "Until our next battle, Miss...?"
I chuckled. "Elentiya."
