When I arrived back home as exhausted as I was, Gloria and Violet were by side instantly ready to help me up. They were literal blessings for even waiting here to help me after they had voiced their disdain for my plans.
"Sofia!"
They walked me over to the couch and laid me down onto it.
"Sofia, you look terrible," Violet remarked. That made me laugh. It's just like Violet to point out the obvious and think that she isn't hurting any feelings whatsoever.
"And I thought that I looked ready for the runway," I responded. Violet rolled her eyes as she began to heal me through magic.
"You have to admit that it was funny," Gloria giggled.
"Oh shut up before I have you heal her," Violet threatened. The once merry atmosphere became very serious as Gloria and I looked at the redhead as if she had grown two heads.
"That's not funny," I told her.
"It really isn't. You know how much I've been trying to master healing magic," Gloria frowned.
"What the hell? How did you guys turn on me so quick?" Violet questioned.
"Easy. You said bullshit like that and didn't expect to get a reaction," I responded.
"Shut up before I make you heal like a human," She hissed. The room fell silent as Violet healed me and I was beginning to drift off to sleep from just laying there. I deserved to sleep after what I went through. Thankfully, my spell wouldn't stop even when I was sleeping because it was going to burn every inch of that damn place for a couple of days. Each day it would get hotter and hotter and hotter until there was nothing. That barrier was going to last during that same time frame as well so I have nothing to worry about at all.
"Sofia, it's alright to drift off to sleep," Gloria assured me, "You are home now and you are safe."
"Thank you," I whispered.
"You're welcome," Gloria smiled softly.
"This will take a while so take all the rest you need," Violet informed me. Soon, I was off into dreamland.
I awoke days later feeling more energized and better than before. My body was completely healed and there were little to no scars on my body. Violet and Gloria had cooked a lot of food for me to eat as soon as I woke up, which I was thankful for.
"Where is Ioana's body?" I inquired.
"It's in the basement," She responded.
"Have the wounds been completely healed?" I asked.
"Yes, but why-"
"Sofia! Don't tell me you're going to do something as reckless and dangerous as that?" Violet hissed. Gloria gasped out of shock. They both realized what I was going to do. What I was about to do was the only way. I've already mastered resurrection magic and I've thoroughly planned out what to do in case things go wrong.
"Are you crazy?! Why would you even think of doing that?" Violet hissed.
"Because Ioana is my friend and she didn't deserve any of it," I muttered.
"No she did not, but resurrecting the dead is a crime punishable by death," She said.
"It's a risk I'm willing to take," I responded.
"Sofia!" Violet angrily exclaimed. She was angry about my words, but it was true. I'm going to bring my friend back to life and there's nothing she can say that will change my mind. Ioana did not deserve what they did to her in the slightest nor did her daughters.
"Whatever you decide, I'll stand by it," Gloria chimed in.
"Are you both insane?!" Violet snapped, "If my mother, our supreme, finds out that you two brought someone back from the dead, then you'll both be burned."
"That's just a risk we're willing to take," I firmly stated.
"If you go through with this, Sofia, I won't be a part of it," Violet told me.
"Alright, Violet," I simply said. She glared at me icily for a moment before turning on her heel and walking away.
"Don't worry. I'll talk to her," Violet's husband assured me.
"No need. She made up her mind," I shook my head.
"Yes, but she is worried about you, Sofia. You went out and did something that could have ended in your death and now you're ready to do it again," He said, "Can you blame her for being angry?"
"No I cannot, but I'm going to do this no matter what," I replied.
"Sofia," He heavily sighed.
"I'm sorry, Lysander, but I have to do this. I know I swore an oath to never resurrect humans, but this is different. Ioana is my friend and I'd rather she be alive to see her children grow than dead," I responded.
"Sofia, do you really think that Ioana would want this?" He inquired. That made me go quiet. Ioana has always been someone that would never want someone to resurrect her. Am I acting out on my own selfish desire and going against her wishes? Yes, but I would rather die than have another loved one leave this world. I refuse to do it. The day she died is the same day that I felt a part of me die. It was the same day that I felt like my family was going to be picked apart one by one leaving me all alone again. Of course I had Sarah and Violet, but there were still times where I felt lonely. So very lonely.
"No, but I'm doing this. Lysander, tell Violet that I'm sorry," I responded. With lightning speed, my index touched his forehead and his body dropped to the floor like a sack of potatoes.
"Sofia, what was that-LYSANDER!" Violet exclaimed rushing to his aid.
"Sorry, Violet, but this needs to be done. You're not going to stop me," I told her.
"Are you insane?! How could you-" I repeated the same actions and she slumped over Lysander.
"I'm keeping you two out of this. You're not going to get burned because of me," I softly said. Quickly, I headed to the basement and descended the stairs. Gloria was already down here preparing everything we needed to make this work.
"Alright. I did as you asked and got out everything we needed for this ritual," She informed me.
"Thank you, Gloria, but we're going to use spells from the forbidden magic book," I responded. She gasped loudly.
"Forbidden magic? You know how Sarah feels about that," She said.
"I know, but this magic is something my mother improved and perfected in ways that she couldn't," I explained.
"Are you sure you want to use that kind of magic? Forbidden magic is infamous for the dangerous consequences that come with using it," She worriedly said.
"Yes. I'm fine with using it and I'm also fine with the consequences. As long as we can revive her and her daughters, then I don't care about what happens to me at all," I explained.
"If you think that you're going to shoulder all of the blame, then you're wrong," Gloria said.
"Gloria, no," I replied.
"Sofia, don't say another word. We're in this together," She told me.
"Thank you, Gloria," I smiled.
"Now, c'mon. Let's get this ritual started," She said.
"Have you prepared for this?" I inquired.
"Yes. All preparations on my end are done," She answered.
"Good. We don't need anymore loose ends," I nodded.
"No we don't," She agreed, "Where's Violet?"
"Sleeping," I responded.
"You knocked her out?" She questioned.
"Yep," I replied.
"She's going to be angry," Gloria remarked.
"Better angry than a snitch," I muttered.
"Definitely better. Don't need Sarah coming here to break up the party," She said.
"That would be a pain in our asses," I muttered.
"Mhm. If she does appear by the time the ritual is over, then that'll land us in some deep shit," She told me.
"Oh big time, but for now we need to worry about Ioana and her children," I replied.
"Okay," She nods, positioning their bodies inside of the circle, "All we need to do now is decide on who's going to the other side to fetch them."
"No need. I already have them right here," I told her. I flicked my wrist and soon three hand mirrors cake floating towards us.
"Don't tell me that you-"
"That I made a little side trip and went to their burned down home where I found their souls and bound them to these mirrors?" I asked. The souls bound mirrors rested on the bodies of their rightful owners.
"That," She answered.
"It took a day for me to retrieve them and they're not too happy with me for doing this," I murmured, "She'll get over it within due time."
"Alright," She nodded, "You ready to start?"
"As I'll ever be," I responded. Gloria stood to her feet and held out her hands to me. I grasped her hands.
"Hold it right there, you bitch!" Violet snapped from the door of the basement. She raced down the stairs with lightning speed. She was really pissed off at me.
"I didn't think that she would wake up that quickly," Gloria remarked.
"Me either. I guess I went a little too easy on her," I agreed.
"Easy my ass. Do you know how hard it is to take a sleep spell of yourself while dreaming?!" She hissed.
"Very hard," Gloria and I chirped.
"I'll kill you, bitches!" She snarled.
"Honey, calm down. She was only trying to keep you safe," Lysander said, descending the stairs.
"Anyways, that's not why I'm here. If you're going to do this dangerous shit, then I'll help you," She grumbled.
"Me too," Lysander chimed in. Silently, I glanced over at Gloria.
"Two more people will make this process a little more easier for the both of us. Not to mention that it won't be as draining too," She explained.
"Alright. You two can help, but if Sarah comes in then I take all the blame for this," I responded.
"What-?"
"Object and I make sure you're unconscious until the next century," I firmly stated, making sure every person met my serious gaze.
"Yes, Sofia," They obediently said.
"Good. Now let us begin," I nodded. We all began preparing for this ritual before finally joining hands as we stood around the bodies of Ioana and her daughters. We chanted the ancient words of the ritual as we stood there together. Our eyes stayed closed the entire time because if they opened, then we would see awful things that would kill us for sure, which wouldn't be the objective of tonight.
When it was finally over, we opened our eyes and there stood Ioana and her two daughters. The three of them poked and prodded at their skin as if to see if they were really alive.
Once that curiosity was over, I was backhanded by Ioana.
"YOU FUCKING IDIOT! HOW DARE YOU RISK YOUR FUCKING LIFE TO SAVE MINE?! HOW DARE YOU COMMIT TREASON TO BRING ME BACK?! Are you insane? Are you crazy? Do you realize what will happen to you once words get to Sarah?" Ioana yelled. All I could do was just burst into tears as she stood over me angrily.
"Did you really think that I wanted you to endanger your life because of me?! Did you really think I wanted you to bring me back to life? What the hell were you thinking, Sofia?" She asked.
"Th-that I couldn't be left alone again," I sobbed, "When I found that you had been murdered, the only thing going through my mind was just being left alone again. I can't lose any more of my family, Ioana. I can't."
"Sofia," Her expression softened. She kneeled down next to me.
"You have every right to be angry with me, Ioana, but please don't abandon me," I begged, sobbing.
"Sofia, I know it's hard for you to lose others, but that is just life," She said, "I didn't want you to risk your life trying to save me."
"Ioana," I murmured.
"Sofia, I won't forgive you for this because not only is this wrong, but you've practically committed suicide," She responded.
"It was suicidal to begin with, but I'll take full responsibility," I told her.
"Mother, where will we go?" Ioana's second oldest ask.
"Paradise," Gloria answered.
"Paradise?" Ioana questioned.
"Paradise," Violet answered making a portal to the other world where other witches live.
"Your children should be waiting for you on that side," Lysander informed her, "You'll be reunited again."
"Reunited with my babies?" Ioana asked.
"Yes," Violet nodded. Ioana beamed brightly as soon as she heard that, but soon it faltered as she looked over at me. Quietly, I stood to my feet and hugged her.
"It's okay. Just go," I murmured.
"What about you?" She asked.
"This is the path I've chosen. Just be glad that you can live freely and happily with your children," I responded. She suddenly kissed me on the lips in front of everyone, which caused them all to have eyes as wide as deer caught in the headlights.
She pulled away after a moment and then pecked my cheek.
"Thank you," She simply said. She took the hands of her two oldest daughters and walked through. As it closed, she looked back at me with a warm smile.
"You three head home," I firmly stated, "This is going to be between Sarah and I."
"Yes, Sofia," They all said. They disappeared from my sight with a crack. After getting myself together, I climbed up the stairs to the basement. The door opened the reveal Sarah with an angry look upon her features.
"Upstairs. Now."
It was fun while it lasted.
