When I finally woke up in a cold sweat, it was due to the small cat quietly sleeping on my chest. I sighed, thinking of how Choux was just too pure for this world. Grabbing my phone, I scrolled through my social media pages, which mostly consisted of pictures of my bakes or of Rei. There wasn’t a single picture of me, but that was because of my scars. If my hands were ever in them, I had always made sure to wear gloves, which was more sanitary anyway.
Looking at Choux, I quickly snapped a picture of her and posted it to my page. Hearing a quiet knock on the door, Shae’s head popped into the room. Seeing Choux curled up on me, she smiled warmly and sighed.
“If you want, breakfast is ready.” I didn’t want to wake up Choux, but my stomach decided that it needed food then. My stomach growled loudly, reminding me I hadn’t eaten since lunch the day before. It also woke up Choux. Lifting her head, she yawned and stood up. I swiftly grabbed her and gave her the antibiotics. Even though she was still a bit skittish, Choux had seemingly warmed up to me. As I held her, she began to purr and closed her remaining eye.
Walking into the kitchen, cat in hand, I sat down at the table where Shae had motioned. Putting down Choux, I looked that the meal before me, I almost fell out of my seat. They had prepared a meal that was so much more elaborate than what I usually ate. Normally it would be a bowl of cereal at most, but they had prepared an entire coffee cake with fruit and eggs.
“Go on, eat up. Don’t be shy.” Shae look expectantly, waiting for me to taste the coffee cake. As I put a bite of the cake in my mouth, I felt it immediately flood it with the delicious sweetness of it. A silent gasp escaped my mouth, and looked up at Shae, a look of pure delight in my eyes.
“You like it?” I nodded immediately. “Awesome! I thought about adding this to the menu, if you’re up for it?” I eagerly nodded again. This would definitely bring a smile to anyone’s face. This also reminded me that we had to go to work today. I quickly signed to Shae that we had work today and should probably get ready. “Don’t worry about that, dear. Andromeda is going to run the front while I can work in back. I may not be able to do anything as fancy as you, but I can still bake. Plus, Droma can make a mean cup of coffee herself.” Even though I was hesitant, I didn’t try anything, because once Shae’s mind was made up, that was that. Submitting to the fact that I would have to stay, I leaned back in my chair with a smile on my face.
“Milo! Lets go play!” Amelia suddenly grabbed my hand and pulled me from my chair to her room. I looked back with a plea on my face. Shae and Andromeda only laughed as I was dragged away.
