Walking down Main St heading back home as he let his thoughts get the better of him. Before he got out, Dustin thought he had figured everything out. Well, almost everything. He had more than enough alone time to think things over and move past what had happened to him. To boil out all the anger and hate he felt for the shit that had gone down that night, but it was just that what happened only came to be because he chose to be part of that family. So he was mad at himself for it most of all.
Dustin felt that he had moved past all of it. That was what really got to him the most now because he clearly had not moved on. He thought being out and back was what he wanted. To be home again, where he belonged. Dustin couldn’t help but feel resentment towards them. Mike mostly, but he tried hiding that as best as he could. Mike was his leader. There was no crossing him unless he wanted the whole gang on him. Thinking that maybe having a lifelong friendship with Mike and the sacrifice he made for him would work in his favor. Get him to lay off and not come back at full force so soon. Dustin really questioned the life he wanted to have and would that life be possible if he stayed here?
During all the back and forth with his thoughts he worked himself up. Finding himself outside of the diner Danni worked at. His legs unknowingly brung him here, pausing for a moment just to see if she was even working. She spotted him through the window, pointing at him then motioned for him to come in. Danni was surprised but happy to see Dustin as he walked in. Smiling at him as he took a seat on the stool in front of her.
“Couldn’t help but come see me, huh?” She asked in a teasing voice.
Dustin nodding as he leaned over the counter, “I’d like to see more of you.”
His words had a double meaning to them, brown eyes watching as her cheeks blushed.
“I’m not kidding.” His tone was more serious now as he leaned back, sitting on the stool as Danni pouring him a cup of coffee.
“Well maybe if you ask me out you’ll get both of those answered.”
Danni clearly picked up on his double meaning.
Moving off to take care of other customers before her boss yelled at her for chatting too much. Personally, she would love to see more of Dustin. Just didn’t know where he stood on there being a ‘them’ if there was even a possibility for a ‘them’ to happen. She knew that she was getting way ahead of herself. Sleeping together didn’t mean something would happen and that it was dumb of her to get her hopes up.
He sat there drinking the coffee while he watched her work. Just being around her made him feel better about everything that has gone wrong in his life. Feeling better about the shit he was in now. Danni just soothed him, calmed his thoughts. She was too good for him. She deserves someone better a hell of a lot better than him, but he couldn’t help the selfish thought of wanting her all for himself.
“I’ve asked you to stop that!” Danni spoke in a raised voice.
Dustin turning around to see what was going on. Danni looked down at the man that always wanted to give her trouble while she was working it never failed. Time after time he always accidentally graces his hand across her butt or pinches her thigh. Danni told her boss about it. His response nothing more than a too bad he couldn’t do anything to a paying customer unless he saw it himself. Getting fed up with it at this point, calling him out on it.
“Look, little lady, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Letting out a long huff, Danni moved on it was no use for her to fight back. She also didn't want to draw any more attention her way. Dustin and a few others looking at her because of the outburst on him.
Raising her hand to Dustin as she passed him, “I can handle it. It’s nothing really.”
“It doesn’t look like nothing.” Dustin turned back again to eye the man.
Dustin, feeling a huge need to take care of it. That's what he did after all. He was an Enforcer. The fact that someone was messing with Danni didn’t sit well with him at all. Feeling the anger that was already stirring in him from earlier in the day starting to reach a boiling point.
“I said it's fine.”
Her tone stated that it was final and for him to stay out of it. Danni didn’t need him to get into the middle of something that he didn’t need to be in. Especially something that could turn ugly real quick. Not wanting him to miss up his parole over something minor.
“Now.” She smiled turning her mood around, touching his arm to get his attention on her and not the man, “Are you going to ask me out or not?”
Rubbing the back of his neck, “I’ve never been one to do the whole dating thing and then there’s Mike.”
He never dated when he was younger. He was more of the hookup kind of guy, a different girl every few weeks or so depending on when he got bored. Real asshole if you were to ask him about it now, but that’s what he did and the women let him. Let him use them till he was done with them. He's never had a woman have this kind of pull on him as Danni did. Not sure what to do with it or how to really feel about it.
“Well, it’s never too late to start.” Her tone not happy with his answer, “And Mike can get over it.”
She pulled her hand away from him. Can he not see that she really liked him? That she has always liked him. Dustin didn’t even know where to start when it came to a date and weren’t they passed that point? He had already slept with her. Couldn’t they just skip this part?
“Fine, nevermind I have to get back to work.”
She snatched up his cup even though he wasn’t done drinking yet, heading off to the back. Dustin shaking his head once again agreeing that she had a short fuse just like her brother. Hurt was not even the biggest emotion she was feeling, pissed off, and angry at Dustin. He could sleep with her but couldn’t even ask her out on a date, spend some time with her. There she goes for not getting her hopes up over him.
