“Hey asshole!” Shouted Danni.
Dustin taken back, not planning on seeing her outside of his work this late at night or ever. Danni leaned against the side of her car. Arms crossed over her chest. Thinking she should have grabbed a light jacket, her v-neck wasn’t cutting it on the cool night air.
“Do I really deserve being called an asshole?” He asked, walking over, stopping just in front of her.
“I liked to think so. Seeing as that’s exactly what you’re being to me.”
Danni was caught up in her feelings for him. Not happy with the fact that he has completely ignored her for the past few days.
Nor was she happy with the fact that Mike asked her to come get him so they could talk. Having to pretend that everything was okay between Dustin and her when it wasn’t.
“You kiss me, then scare me, then you get me to sleep with you, giving you a piece of myself that I haven’t given to anyone else and act like it’s no big deal. Then freeze up when I mention wanting to spend time with you acting like it’s not something you can do or even want to try.”
Danni let her words trail off, feeling herself becoming more upset than she had planned about the whole thing. Also saying a hell of a lot more than she should have. She was just here to pick him up. She had told herself that she wasn’t even going to say anything to him about how she was feeling because she knew it was stupid of her.
Childlike even, something she was trying hard to no longer be seen as. Dustin looked down at her not even really sure what was going on. His ears only heard the words stating she hasn’t given herself to anyone else before him.
“I’m sorry rewind, I didn’t get you to sleep with me. You're the one that initiated it if I recall correctly. Wanting me to kiss you. Second I took your v card, really?”
That was what really shocked him. She hadn't slept with anyone else. He didn’t want to believe that but questioned why she would make something up like that. Danni wasn’t making it up. She hadn’t had sex before Dustin. No one else added up to him in her mind. Even once he was locked up, she still cared about him.
Thinking that she had gotten rid of that little girl crush for him altogether, but it all came flooding back to her once she saw him at the party. His question made her regret even thinking about talking to him about her feelings. Waving her hand in the air as if to erase what she had said.
“You know what it doesn’t matter. Mike sent me to come get you and he suggests with your first paycheck you get a cell phone cause this middle man shit gets old.”
Danni turned to get back in her car, but Dustin’s handheld the door closed.
“Obviously, it does matter if it upset you enough to bring it up.”
“No, it’s fine. I was stupid to think something might happen. Stupid to let my little crush get in the way. Just act like I never said anything. Okay?”
His arms wrapped around her waist pulling her close to him, feeling her back press against his chest as he rested his chin on her shoulder.
“You’re not stupid Danni.” He whispered to her, kissing the side of her neck lightly.
“I surely feel stupid.”
Finally letting go of all that she was feeling. Hot tears running down her cheeks as she stood there, unsure of what to do next. Danni's crying really put Dustin on edge not knowing what to do for her, so he held her for a long moment. He really wasn’t sure what was going on between the two of them. He didn't know what she wanted from him exactly.
All he knew was that he could never be able to give it to her. Not a fuck up like him. Yes, he was attracted to her. Yes, he cared for her. Yes, he wanted her but there was just so much else going on that caused him to think that nothing could ever happen between the two of them.
“I’m the stupid one. I keep fucking things up.”
His words caused her to perk up, “We're both stupid.”
Laughing, he let go of Danni just enough so she could turn around and face him. Her eyes still looked away from him.
“Do you even know what you’re getting yourself into when it comes to being involved with me?” He asked, honestly wanting to know if she even thought about it.
Shaking her head yes as she looked up at him, “And I don’t care. I have always liked you, Dustin.”
She didn’t care that he had a record and was locked up or on parole. Didn’t care that he was involved in the gang life. Didn’t care that he didn’t have his shit straight or know what he wanted. She didn’t care that when he was younger that he slept around and partied too much.
She just wanted him or at least be giving the chance to have him. To let her know that she had tired and if it didn’t work out then she would find a way to move on. She just didn’t want to live a life of what if.
