My Life is like a Manga

My Life is like a Manga

Jan 15, 2021

It all started in my first year of high school. One day after classes were done, I was hanging out behind the gym singing to myself. The next thing I know, I'm being chased by the choir club and a bunch of band groupies wanting me to join their favorite bands. I’ve even been ambushed in the park, going back and forth to work, and just walking around town. I have gone as far as hiding my face and sneaking through windows just to hide from people. My two best friends think it’s funny but they do help me to hide. Their names are Hidaki Konomi and Aoi Hanako. The very first time it happened, I was off by myself, humming, not even singing. The next thing I know, i’m being carried off by two students who are saying they need my voice, and the first thing i can think of is to say that i’m not a mermaid. As soon as I said that, they just drop me, like a sack of rocks. After they dropped me they just ran away, but i’m almost positive they were Sr.’s. I never got a good look at them. A week later two people from a well known band in our school came up to me and said that they wanted me to sing in the band for three or four gigs, while their lead singer was out sick. All I could do was say no, and when that didn’t work, I ran and hid. I had to hide every time I'd see them, although it didn’t always work. At least during classes they’d leave me alone. One day during lunch I was on the rooftop of the school, singing a song I had written called “I'm Out of Time”. The lyrics are as follows.

Your in my heart

And your in my mind.

I think of you

All the time,

I don’t know why,

But I must be fallin’,

Fallin’, fallin’, in love.

So one day back in jr. high,

I asked you to the dance that night.

You said that your not going,

So I went by myself.

When I got there

I saw you with another girl,

And I thought,

I’m out of time, I'm too late.

He’s already taken, so i’ll

Just have to wait.

I’m out of time, I'm too late.

He’s already taken, so i’ll

Just have to wait.

Your in my heart,

And your in my mind.

I think of you

all the time.

I don’t know why.

But i must be fallin’,

Fallin’, fallin’, in love.

Now in high school, he asks me

Out on a date and i said

Your out of time, your too late.

I’m already taken, so you’ll

Just have to wait.

Your out of time, your too late.

I’m already taken, so you’ll

Just have to wait.

I’m guessing someone had heard me, because the next day there was a sheet of paper with the song “Will You” neatly written in print. The paper looked like this.

WILL YOU

One night two high school kids

Were going on a date.

They're in a wreck

And sent to the hospital.

The doctor said that the boy is going

To die, and so he says-

If i die tonight, will you think of me,

Will you love me like you always have.

One day a man saw his

Old high school flame.

They meet at the late night diner

And then the asks her to marry

Him, and she says yes, but then the

Diner catches fire.

The man gets hurt trying to get everyone

Out, and he said to his old flame-

If i die tonight, will you think of me,

Will you love me like you always have.

A man was talking to the world,

And everybody loved him.

Then some people hung him on

A cross, and his mother came

To see him in the dead of night

He asked his mother-

If i die tonight, will you think of me,

Will you love me like you always have,

And she said yes.

I never saw who had left the paper, and I never found any more songs like that either. If I could find out who had wrote that song and they wanted me to sing for them I might have done it. But because they never showed, I'm back to hiding from everyone. Three weeks after the paper incident, another group tried to run away with me, but I just barely managed to get away, since they were all guys I was able to hide in the girls restroom. It was like this for the next three months, me trying to find the person that left the song and me hiding from people wanting me for my voice. Then just before winter break, I was on the roof trying to eat lunch in peace when I heard the door open. I peeked around the corner and what I saw made me freeze. It was the new teacher that had just started this year. As I watched, he pulled out a sheet of paper and started to write. A few minutes went by, then a student came up looking for him. After he left, I found the paper and what was on it I don’t think I’ll ever forget, it said “To the one who likes to sing. Here is a new song for you.” The song itself was incomplete, but what I read was really sweet.

THE FLAME

Hidden deep within the heart

Of someones flaming, loving soul.

Their love is ever flaming, burning

For that special someone.

That flame shall never die

As long as they are in

Love with someone.

When you love someone, you always need to

Tell them how you feel about their

Love, even if they don’t love you back.

That flame shall never die

As long as they are in

Love with someone.

Now the teacher that wrote all this was only six years older than I was, and the most popular teacher in the entire school. All the girls loved him, even the guys wanted to be around him. As I was about to walk away, he walked back onto the roof. When he saw me, he froze up. I asked him if he had wrote the song I’d found before, it turns out he did. Then he also told me that he liked me, even though he was a teacher. I then told him that my parents were making me a marriage meeting that weekend. He said that if my parents approved of him, he could keep other students from harassing me. I smiled, told him where it would be at, then said that I really hoped they would approve. After he met my parents, we were engaged. He did tell the headmaster about our engagement, the headmaster being the nice old man he was, said as long as we didn’t touch each other during school hours he could keep his job. True to their word my husband-to-be kept me safe from the other students, and didn’t lose his job. Three years later we were married. And about my two best friends, they married each other. This concludes my story of how my life is like a manga.

I'm not sure what made me want to write this, mostly I was just bored.

The songs are some I'd wrote years ago.

I tried singing the songs and when I listened to what I sounded like I realized how absolutely terrible I am at singing.
