Michael’s eyebrow twitched from his brothers’ loud shouts, slowly rising from his seat before slamming his hands on the table while his other two pairs of arms were holding the coffee cup in the air along with other valuable things that he did not want to break right now.
“One. Shout again and I won’t hesitate to shut you up really quick, Sera is sleeping right now.”, the male hissed out as his eight golden wings were unfolded in a threatening yet powerful way, “Secondly…” The King of Angels paused before sighing as he sat back down again, his wings folding back on his back as he took a sip from his coffee. “I don’t want to hear another word about my appearance… I haven’t slept in a month, cut me some slack.” He grumbled at them, too tired to deal with this shit right now.
“A-A month… You are kidding, right?” Raphael asked in shock, the poor healer having turned very pale in a matter of seconds and looked like he was about to faint. ‘I shouldn’t be surprised… Why is he always like this, sleep is important!’ The brown-haired male thought while crying inwardly, hating the fact that Michael was too stubborn and reckless to be left alone.
“Oh. my. gosh!” Gabriel exclaimed theatrically, fanning themselves with air to calm down from the surprise. “You are serious, aren’t you, Michael? How tragic~ Why would you do that to yourself, is this some form of weird self-punishment for kicking us out? Ahh! Don’t worry, dear brother, I forgive you!” They cried out dramatically, making Michael’s expression drop to a look of stony fondness at his quirky younger brother.
“That’s not the reason.” The Archangel of Justice deadpanned before sighing as he closed his tired eyes for a moment and leaned back. “It’s because of Sera.” He mumbled as his expression drifted to clear worry only a parent could express.
“For the first weeks, she couldn’t sleep. I don’t know why, I did everything possible, everything the servants or I could think of… I held her tiny body, soothed her, gave her toys to cling to, fed her before trying to get her to sleep… Heck, I even sang a damn lullaby for her!” He cursed and rubbed over his eyes, looking back to his brothers whose expression had drifted to something more serious as well.
“That’s indeed unusual. Babies sleep a lot more than children or even adults, it is proven they can sleep almost 14 hours a day, if not more.” Uriel intoned, his intelligent brain trying to find a conclusion or reasoning to what could have kept their baby niece awake.
“I know. It’s very concerning… I don’t know why…” Michael whispered, running his fingers through his hair, which only messed it up more. “It almost seemed like she was...having nightmares. But that isn’t possible, right? Why should a newborn have nightmares, after all, they shouldn’t have experienced anything to cause them such horrors, right?!” He shouted out upset before silencing himself quickly.
His brothers stayed silent as Raphael seemed to mull over this. “Are you sure… She has nightmares?” The Archangel of Healing asked carefully to not upset Michael more. “It is...more than unheard that babies who are barely one-month-old cry in their sleep because of nightma-“
“She is not crying.” Michael interrupted, folding his hands with a grim expression. “That is the problem. She never cried.”
It was silent at this revelation, the three uncles visibly surprised at what they were told about their baby niece. Even for newborn angels, it is more than a little weird if they are not crying when they are in pain, hungry, or even disturbed for whatever reason. It is natural for babies and young toddlers to cry, no matter what species they are part of.
“What do you mean ‘She never cried’? How do you know she has nightmares then?! Or when do you know if she’s hungry or not?!” Gabriel said in shock, their voice turning higher pitched at the end from their disbelief.
Michael sighed, staring into his cup of coffee seriously. “I don’t know how to explain it. She doesn’t cry, but she makes louds similar to whimpers or calls. Of course, she can’t speak or form words yet, that would be too odd but it is like she doesn’t want to cry and-“ He shouted out in frustration before suddenly banging his fist onto the table, “I absolutely hate that!!”
His brothers flinched in surprise from the loud noise, staring at Michael with wide eyes for a moment.
“That’s the whole reason I didn’t sleep! Because I don’t want to miss it if she ends up having these nightmares or whatever! Call it instinct or not, I won’t let her out of my sight once!”
His brothers stayed silent at that for a moment longer, exchanging a quick look before Raphael fidgeted nervously.
“You know, even if she might not cry, she makes it visible whenever she needs something so I don’t think you need to watch over her all the time,” he said as softly as possible. “It isn’t good for us angels to go that long with no rest or sleep at all.”
“Besides, you have an entire palace full of servants to help you with Sera, or you could call a very caring female angel to take care of Seraphina while you get some sleep. It would only be for about one or two hours and the rest of the day you can take care of her yourself.” Uriel added seriously.
Michael frowned at that, seeming to think about what they said while he stared down to the table, which only made his face shadow over from the tiny source of light right behind him.
“No!” He spoke firmly with hidden anger, slowly lifting his head to glare at his brothers with golden glowing eyes. “I cannot trust them. What if something goes wrong? What if they drop her? What if they ignore the whimpers and just let her lay in her little bed while I am sleeping? WHAT IF THEY DON’T CONSOLE HER WHEN SHE IS UPSET! WHAT IF-“ The Archangel ranted out frantically while gripping tightly around his cup to a point his brothers were sure it could break any moment.
The three visitors stayed silent as they listened to their brother go on and on about what could go wrong if someone else takes care of his baby while he rests.
‘Okay, it’s confirmed now… Michael has officially lost his mind.’ They all thought at the same time while looking at Michael, bewildered.
How can a man become this overprotective in a mere month?! They had no idea how overprotective Michael could be when it came to his little daughter. And soon they were going to learn that the hard way...
