A few weeks had gone by Amelia fit in perfectly. She has helped Gally come out of his shell and stop being so mean all the time to everyone. Henry, the boy that was messing with her, hasn't tried anything yet.
Amelia had a weird work schedule. She worked with the builders one day out of the week, with the medjacks two days a week, and with the track-hoes for one day, meaning she had three days off to just helping out around the Glade.
The second week Amelia was there, she had convinced Alby to let her request things from the box, which she knew now that it came up every two weeks to give supplies, and every month to bring up a glader. She had some weird things on the list,
Female Clothes, Shorts, Dresses, Sandles
Feminine Products
Dog with a purple collar with the name Buttercup
Dog food and toys
Guitar
Pad of paper with a set of pencils
A straw hat
She had handed the list that she wanted back to Alby. He knew that she shouldn't get her hopes up about anything that wasn't essential, which was the last five things on her list.
This week was the day that the new greenie would come up. She was getting excited because she would no longer be called greenie. This so happened to be one of the days she had off. She spent most of the day with Newt in the garden. She enjoyed growing stuff.
The greenie alarm went off. This caused the girl to hop up and sprint to the box. A few of the gladers let out laughs, but that didn't stop her. About five minutes later, the cage had arrived. Alby opened the doors allowing Amelia to see in the box.
Alby nodded as the girl looked at him, seeing if she could get in the box. Taking his nod as a yes, she hopped down in the box, seeing a boy, he was already standing. He looked scared.
"Hey, it's ok." She said. Her voice was soft. "How about we get you out of the box?" She asked.
"Why can't I remember anything?" He asked. His eyes were wide.
"It happened to all of us. It'll come back in a few days, don't worry." She said. She looked out of the box and called for the rope to come down so they could get out. She let him get out first, getting out after him.
The boy stood up in a panic. He found an opening in the boys and took off.
"We got a runner!" One of the boys yelled, causing everyone to laugh. The boy got pretty far before tripping and faceplanting.
"Thought we had a runner there for a second." Newt said. He patted Amelias' back before heading over to the new greenie.
Amelia walked off, letting the boys clear the box she went to find Gally.
She found him doing what he does best, fixing stuff up. He looked up, their eyes met, and she smiled. "Want to go for a walk with me?" The boy nodded, setting down his hammer.
They made small talk walking together around. Over the few weeks, they have gotten closer. As they were walking, Gallys' hand brushed against Amelia's. This caused her cheeks to darken.
Gally bumped her shoulder playfully. "Race ya!" He said as he already took off.
"Hey! No fair!" She laughed, running after the boy. They ran to the homestead as it was lunchtime.
The pair were laughing loudly, "I totally won that, Gally." Amelia said.
"Sure you did, green bean." Gally looked over at the girl, taking small peaks at her. Amelia let out a gasp hitting his shoulder, "I'm not a greenie anymore, Gally." Amelia said. They walked, grabbing their food, they sat at their spot soon joined by Chuck, Newt, and the new Greenie.
Gally gave the newbie a glare. This wasn't uncommon. Gally seemed to dislike almost everyone half the time, yet he was always nice to her. Amelia tapped Gally's arm under the table, giving him a look that said, 'Be nice. He's new.'
"How's your first-day greenie?" Amelia asked, eating her food.
"It's been," The boy paused, looking around for the right word, "interesting." He looked at Amelia.
"Later tonight, there will be a bonfire. It's a tradition." Amelia got up from her seat after side, hugging gally, "See you all there." She said, walking off.
Newt looked at Gally with his eyebrows raised, "What's going on with you and Amelia?" he asked. This made the new boy intrigued.
"Nothing's going on." He looked at the boys, "We're just friends." he stated.
"Uh-huh, stop being a shank," Chuck said. "You need to realize you both like each other." He got up, having to go back to work. This left the three with their mouths open in shock. Gally got up, leaving soon after.
Amelia got called into the homestead by Alby, talking about how her things came up. She got excited and ran to grab the pad of paper and a pencil.
Amelia sat under the tree, watching everyone work. She opened the sketchbook and started to draw with her left hand. Soon after it was like her hand had a mind of its own, she finished the first drawing. It was of Minho. He was in his runner uniform, his head looking to the side and his hands on his hips.
She stopped to admire this drawing. She didn't expect to be this good. She thought it to look crapy, but it wasn't. She liked it. She decided to do Newt, looking over at him he was standing talking to the new greenie. She let her mind and hand take over. His expression was blank, his hair was slightly messy on one side. She stopped to look at the drawing, happy with both of them.
Amelia smiled, moving to a different spot so she could see her favorite glader, Gally. She took time with his. He looked at her in the perfect moment, so she let her hand and mind take over. The drawing started to come together. Her favorite part about his picture was his eyebrows, always messy.
Amelia soon closed her book done for the day. She looked up at the sun. It never rained here, which kind of sucked. After a few minutes, she started dosing off. The girls' foot was kicked a few hours later, looking at the person standing above her, she didn't remember his name, but he told her that it was time for the bonfire.
Amelia made her way over, greeting everyone on her way over there. She walked over to Newt as he handed the greenie the amber liquid that he had once given her. He immediately spits it out, looking disgusted. "What was that?!" He asked.
Amelia chuckled, "It's Gallys' secret recipe." The two welcomed her, and Amelia looked around for Gally. Yet she knew where he would be.
The three walked over to the fighting pit to see who was winning. Gally was once again winning, not to their surprise. Gally threw the boy out of the fighting pit. Which caused him to bump into the greenie. This caused everyone to want him to fight Gally.
The boy got tossed in, Amelia watched with her arms crossed. He didn't last very long. He hit his head on the ground, causing him to say something under his breath. Then said it one more time, this time louder. "Thomas!" Everyone looked at him like he was crazy, "My name is Thomas!" He said once more, causing everyone to cheer.
The bonfire went on for a few more hours before everyone said goodnight and went to their sleeping area. Amelia climbed into bed as Gally laid on the floor.
"Gally?" She asked. He responded with a hum. "Come lay with me. It's cold." The boy wasted no time getting into bed with her. Amelia turned, so they were facing each other. "Thank you." He nodded as it was no problem.
The pair laid there just talking about stuff, Gally leaned down kissing Amelias' forehead as he thought she was sleeping. He whispered, "Maybe Chuck was right. I do like you." This caused Amelia to lay her head on his chest to hide her smile.
