The heat drained all of my energy. I laid on my stomach sweating in my couch. I was only in my boxers the TV was on but I wasn't even watching anymore. The heat was unbearable, the window was open but it was providing little to no relief. I was bored out of my mind, I couldn't sleep cause I was uncomfortably hot. I craved something cold but I had no motivation to get up or even lift a finger. My phone buzzed on top of the coffee table. I looked at it contemplating whether or not it was worth moving for. I unwillingly moved my hand and stretched to grab it. I pick up and growled letting the caller know I was there.
"Wow, hello to you too..." I rolled my eyes at the familiar voice.
"What do you want?" I growled again.
"It's the hottest day of the year.."
"No shit"
"No need to get snappy, let me finish....as I was saying it's the hottest day of the year want to get some ice cream, I could go myself but what's the fun in that?" E asked.
I had already gotten up at the sound of ice cream, motivation found, picking a white vest and some shorts of which I didn't like to wear after Aubrey told me that I had chicken legs. She may be right, I am on the slender side, but it was too hot for freaking pants.
"Why the fuck are you still talking? Get your ass over here." I picked up the phone I had put on speaker. I was already getting too hot wearing all these layers of clothes. It made me impatient.
"Okay boss on my way." He said and hung up. I shook my at the phone.
I didn't have to wait too long when he pulled up in my apartment parking. I was already down stairs waiting for him at the entrance of the building. He got out and walked towards me. I raised an eyebrow.
"Relax, we're walking." He said when he got within ear shot.
"No." I said stubbornly and crossed my arms over my chest.
"What are you, a stubborn six year-old? Come on, It's not that far plus it's a hustle looking for parking everybody is out right now." He stood there waiting for my response. I simply looked the other way not changing my mind. I thought he'd start talking me into it when I heard nothing. It was silent. I looked at his direction and he was almost turning the corner. I ran after him.
"Really you were gonna just leave me there?" I raised my brow at him when I reached him.
"Well I knew my words won't work on you so I just acted. You're kind of predictable sometimes."
"I am not." I clenched my invisible pearls acting shocked. We walked for a fair bit and got to the ice cream shop. The floor was red and white checked marble, the workers wore pink and white, it was a bit cooler than outside. It was kind of packed, we had to wait ten minutes to get a table and be served. We sat at the far back of the shop. E was actually right, there were so many cars out side. We finally got served. I had one scope of vanilla, one scope of chocolate chip and one scope of strawberry. E only had three scopes of vanilla.
"Wow, you're such a basic bitch." I laughed eyeing the ice cream bowl in front of him.
"Well, some of the most complex people like basic." He said clearly refering to himself. I chuckled at his ability to say some things with a straight face.
We talked for a while even after we finished the ice cream. The store was cool enough we didn't feel like going out in the heat just yet. The servers were giving us looks, we got the hint and decided to head out. It was still pretty early so we spontaneously decided we should go watch a movie. I suggested a scary one but Ethan wasn't too found of the idea. I convinced him other wise and he took the bait. In all honesty I just wanted to see how he'd react since he was so against the idea.
We sat in the middle raw of the almost empty theater with some coke and caramel popcorn. The entire time Ethan looked too on the edge. He flinched and laughed uncomfortably at the scary scenes and it made me laugh. Seeing a man of his height and build being scared of a movie was actually priceless.
When we got out I made fun of him and he defended himself by saying that it was based on a true story so it was too chilling to watch. I still laughed at him. He looked unamused by it so I kindly let him choose a place to grab dinner as it was starting to get pretty late. It was still hot though.
We walked in to a fast food joint and sat in a booth by the window. After a while of looking through the menu we decided to settle on chicken burgers, fries and some shakes and I bet you could guess what flavor of milk shake he got. Yap, vanilla. We ate as we talked about random things.
I noticed a few things about him. How he bit the inside of his lip before when he was thinking before making any decision. The way he squints his eyes when he's about to say something serious. The way he always without fail bit his lower lip with a slight smile which showed his dimples and rubbed his hands together when he was about to eat anything.
He looks so adorable doing that. I caught myself saying that and mentally slapped myself. Sometimes I had to constantly remind myself he was unavailable.
After finishing our meal we decided to walk back. When we were a few blocks away from my apartment it started to pour. People scattered and went to hide in the nearest shelter. When I was about to do the same Ethan grabbed my arm. I looked up at him in confusion as we started getting soaked.
"A little rain never hurt no body." He smiled and stretched his arms looking up with his eyes closed laughing. He stayed like that for a little bit then gestured for me to follow him. He ran to the direction of my apartment not putting his arms down and hooting as the rain poured loudly. I shook my head and followed him doing the same.
We got to my place all wet and laughing. We took off our shoes and I went and got us some towels. Each of us took a shower. We made some tea and sat on the couch with a blanket watching Brooklyn nine nine on Netflix untill we fell asleep. By now the temperature had dropped.
