The wind blew vigorously while I stood on a rooftop looking out to the view. The building was kind of high, my body pulled me back from the edge. I looked to my right I saw Aubrey looking off into the distance. The wind blew her hair on her face. I looked to my left and saw Ethan doing the same. I was standing in the middle. This made me feel uncomfortable for some reason. No one spoke. I looked down at my feet as a wave of guilt washed over me.
"Harry," Aubrey called not looking at me. I didn't answer. Somehow I couldn't speak. "It hurts." She said this time I was sure she was crying. I snapped my head to her direction. She was on her knees with her hand over her chest. She was wailing uncontrollably. I rushed over to her side but she pushed me away. She moved away from me. She flinched every time I made an advanced to comfort her.
I clenched my fists and looked down. I felt like it was my fault she was this broken. My legs felt week and I got to my knees I was now full on crying. Ethan walked over to Aubrey completely ignoring my presence. It stung but what did I expect. He was down by her side hugging her, whispering comforting things I couldn't quite make out.
They stood up and started to make their way to the exit. Ethan's arm was over her shoulder and hers was around his waist. At this point I felt like a thousand needless were picing through my chest. I watched them as they got further and further away from me. Just before they despaired Aubrey turned and looked at me with a smug grin on her face. There was something sinister about it. As if she managed to fool us all. My eyes widened blood rushed through me. I got up and called out Ethan's name. Before I could run over to them I tripped and fell backwards.
I was falling. My hands reached and searched but there was nothing to grab onto. Everything fell silent and all I could hear was the sound of the wind woosh by my ears in high speed. My heartbeat slowed, everything moved fast and slow at the same time. The top of the building got further and further away form me. My body felt like it was being pulled with great force to a seemingly endless fall. The future I got from the top the more I gave up and accepted the inevitable end. I was feet away from crashing to the pavement. I got closer and closer.
I came to kicking and screaming. Ethan voice got clearer as he called my name over and over. I was on the ground and so was he. I felt a thick sweat over me I looked around trying to figure out where I was. My breathing slowed down as I realized I was in my living room and E was continuously saying that it was just a dream. He rubbed my back in a soothing manner. I looked at him. He embraced me, his body heat made me feel safe and protected. His heart beat somehow slowed my racing one.
After a while he led me to my room and I got in the covers. He ruffled my hair giving me a small smile. He turned to leave but I pulled his arm, he turned and got down to my level.
"Stay." That was all I could manage to say but that was all he needed to hear. He climbed in bed with me and I made room for him. He laid facing me and me facing him. He smiled and moved the hair out of my face. His hand intertwined with mine. That small point of contact was enough to make me feel at ease and I drifted off to sleep. This time I dreamt of nothing.
