P O V - Avery
This place is so fancy... I really like the colors going on here. Black carpeting... dark grey walls. The lining of neon lights, all so pretty.
"Wow, this is incredible... I was honestly expecting a beat-up shack you would throw me into."
"We save those for the ones who double-cross us... unless perhaps-"
"No thanks."
The Boss smirked wider, like- how much can this dude smirk... it's putting me off ease.
"This is the main area where most will gather for meetings or planning. This is not where you will be working though. At least not yet."
He turned to Pip and did a 'come hither' motion.
"Pip will be showing you the room you will be staying in. Your room will also function as your workspace. I trust you'll be doing your best work there as well, or else we may just have to... sell you out"
I shuddered at his words. That could mean so many things. Especially since I'm legally dead. At least that takes a couple of loads off my back. You don't need to take care of bills if you're legally dead right?
Pip tapped my shoulder and I snapped out of thought. He smiled at me and started to walk in another direction. Oh yeah, I'm supposed to follow him.
As I followed, many eyes started to notice me. They're looking. Definitely. They won't stop staring at my face nor my arm. That's when I heard the Boss snap from the other side of the room.
"None of your business! Get back to your own shit."
Thank god. The heads reluctantly turned back to their own situation, but no doubt they'll start whispering about me. Pip gave me a pitiful look. I just pursed my lips and shrugged.
There was another elevator we had to take. When entered, I could see that it had the same 5 labels as the previous elevators, meaning that it connected to there as well, but this elevator had an extra 4 floors. They seem to be of more importance.
The floor we were going to was -5, dubbed as "Rooms". Just "Rooms"?
Guess they couldn't come up with any better.
When we stepped off, there was a long ass hallway. To the very end was a door that was directly opposite of the elevator. Pip turned to me.
"Well, you actually don't have your own room... but you'll be staying with me! Boss' orders... he- uh. Yeah."
I looked at him with shock.
"Uh- we won't be sharing... beds-"
"Of course not! Not that I wouldn't want to share a bed with- that was wrong. Uh- Th-there's an extra bed in the other part of the room. Just, here let me show you!" He quickly explained.
We walked all the way to the end of the hall to Pip's room. It was pretty big. The first thing you could see to the west was a large bed with tons of computers on the side. I guess he works while in bed. To the East, a large TV and below, a dresser. A bit to the right of the East wall appeared to be the bathroom. There was a door on the North wall which he led me through. Inside is was a large grey room with equipment and chemical vials everywhere! It was everywhere but in a neat fashion. To the side was another bed which I assumed I would be using. There was also a closet that Pip pointed out. He said it was extra and that I could use it for my own belongings.
I was practically placed by equipment. I guess I'm getting to work quite soon, but what about my revenge?
Almost on queue, Pip handed me files of Professor Brillow. His mafia name was... "Brillow Tree"
...
Is this guy stupid? I guess so, I mean, he did try to blow me up. I looked a little further down and there was info on his last whereabouts. Last seen somewhere in Maine. Hm.
I walked over to the tables that had blueprints on them and took a look. It seems the Boss wants some sort of... Is that a hairdryer? It is, but it also seems like he wants some sort of training androids. That doesn't sound too hard.
It will give me something to do when I'm not sniffing out Brillow. Last seen in Maine, oh wait, huh? Last seen 4 days ago? He has to be somewhere there then! This is exciting. Oh, but what to do to him? Maybe the Boss can fill me in on some ideas.
—————
I started working on designs for the training androids with some paper I found laying around. They look basic at the moment, but when I build them, they'll have complex wirings and code. I transferred the drawings I did into a 3d modeling program and worked out some problems and junk there. Nothing important. I was satisfied with my work and I ended up completing the hairdryer later that night.
I had to have Pip escort me to the Boss room where I gave him the gadget.
He's... In a robe. He walked slowly over to me and gave me a half-lidded smile before taking the hairdryer.
I didn't like that-
———
When I went to bed and woke up the next morning, I found an envelope on the side of the bed. I opened it to reveal a letter.
'That hairdryer you supplied me is fantastic. I give all my thanks to you. Now my hair can look fabulous when I speak with clients. I've decided to reward you a little. It is not much right now, but you did just join. Think of this as a nice treat for small tasks you do for me. Also, tell Pip that you need a phone or something, when you do get one, don't forget to give me your digits.
Good Work, Boss.'
Hm. Digits. Haven't heard anybody use that in a while. What a dork. I looked in the envelope once more and there lied 50 bucks. Neat!
Pip agreed to give me a "Gang Phone". It was of his design, and he did a great job doing it. It was perfectly functional and it even provided a ton of storage- yesss.
"Oh yeah, look for your number in there! Me and the Boss need your digits!"
"Digits? You guys are nerds. I like that"
Pip laughed and semi-agreed. He also entered the Boss' number for me as well.
When I texted the Boss to let him know it was me, he instantly sent me a photo of him in the bath.
I'm gonna go home.
