Outskirts of a city in Indonesia, 21:00. . .
Light arrives in front of his two-story house and enters.
"I'm home!"
A silent breeze went through the inside of his living room.
"*sigh* What am I fooling myself for? It's been 2 years already." said Light with a sad tone talking to himself.
Light bought instant noodles on his way home. He quickly made a preparation to serve the noodle and it took him 3 minutes.
"Dinner's ready."
Light prays for his dinner first and then he can finally have dinner.
*slurp slurp*
Light eats noodles using a fork because he's not really good at using chopsticks.
After dinner, Light took a hot bath, and afterward, he's ready to do his usual nighttime activity, watching anime, or play videogames on his PC in his room on the second floor.
Light is not quite what you presumed to be an otaku. He only watches 3 to 4 anime per season, but if a season has so many anime with a good plot and interesting story, he can watch up to 10 anime series per season. Light doesn't have a preference when it comes to the genre, as long as he thinks the plot is unique and interesting to him, he'd watch it whether it is a romance, comedy, drama, tragedy, horror, shounen, shoujo, etc.
He isn't quite accepting when someone refers to him as an otaku, but he prefers to be referred to as simply either a nerd or a geek.
But his addiction to videogames is different. He usually spends so much time on one single game until he has explored everything that a game has to offer that he sometimes spends weeks or even months towards just one game. His preferable genres are JRPGs, 3D Platform, Action, Action RPGs, and sometimes, he even enjoyed Rhythm or Fighting games. On this one addiction, he completely acknowledged it if they were to call him a game otaku.
Today he decided to watch anime. In a world where Faith power exists, watching anime about humans who have superpowers is quite a common thing. Some non-anime watcher Believer even purposely watches action genre anime to learn about attacks used in the show to be applied to real fights.
As usual, before he starts watching, Light puts on his black-frame glasses. He turned off the light in his room to watch it in dark. Light was watching an anime about high school life. His expression looks quite sad although he doesn't realize this.
. . .
Three hours later, he has finished watching. He turned off his PC and gets on his bed. He proceeds to pray.
He prays every day as an act of reporting his Judge's work to God on a daily basis and also as a way to communicate with Him.
"Amen."
"Goodnight." Light said his greetings towards nobody yet he keeps doing this every night.
It took him a while, but Light finally ends the day with a good night's sleep.
. . .
. . .
. . .
". . .nii!"
". . .nii!"
"Light-nii!!"
"Huh?"
"LIGHT-NIIIIIII!!!"
"WAAAHH!!"
"Geez! Do you know how long have I been trying to wake you up?"
"Uuuuhh. . . sorry, Luca! What's up?"
"What is up? School's already ended like an hour ago! It's 14:30 now!"
"Uuhhh, I must've fallen asleep while waiting for you. . ."
"Wha-? You were waiting for me? Didn't I tell you to go home without me? I have student council stuff to work on!"
"Huh? Did you?"
"Sigh~ Just grab your bag and let's go home!"
"Okay, okay!"
This is my little sister, Lucania Lunehart. To be exact, she's my twin sister, we're only a minute apart from birth. She's 165cm tall, a little bit shorter than me. She has slightly curly long black hair, her hair reaches her back. She dresses casually like any teenage girl although currently, she's just wearing her school uniform. Her eyes are oceanic blue. Her bangs are crowded on the right side of her head, while her bangs on the left side are swept to the side. Her body is slender, not too thin but not fat either.
As I mentioned, we are twins so we are in the same year in high school as first years and we also belong in the same class. We lost both of our parents back when we were just five years old. They died because of a terrorist attack when they went on a date at a mall. At the time, we can only cry. Not only at the death of our parents, but also about what comes after. What could we do, we were just five years old at the time.
When we were in middle school, our school was caught up in a fight between Believers. Everyone, literally everyone died in that fight, and our school building was torn apart. I have so many friends at that school, even upperclassmen and some school staff and of course the teachers. Everyone is just gone like that, but miraculously, we were the only ones who survived.
I became afraid of approaching people, I'm so afraid that I'm just going to lose them again. I locked my heart away from others. My sister became the only light and hope in my life. We struggled together every single day from when we were five years old, until where we are 10 years later.
Together with my sister, we were heading home from school.
We have exited the school building and walk through the school grounds.
One hour after school ended, there are still some students doing club activities or playing soccer on the left side of the school ground. I notice that some of the soccer players are using Faith power in the match, which provokes an interesting thought in my head.
"Say, Luca."
"Hm?"
"When do you think will we get our own Faith power?"
"What? You're still fixated on that stuff?"
"Well, I was just wondering how much different our lives would be if we ever awaken our own Faith power. I mean, we could do so much more on our part-time job, right?"
My sister suddenly steps up her walking pace to walk ahead of me. She turned around in front of me and points her finger right at my nose.
"Listen! Just because we're Non-Believers, doesn't mean we are a much less human being than those who are Believers. We just have to do our best doing stuff that Believers can't do. Am I wrong, Light-nii?"
"Yes, yes. I heard you, but you've been kinda talking like you're looking down on me for a while. At least show some respect to your brother."
"Respect is achieved, not given---AWAWAWAWWAWAAAWWW!! STOP PINCHING MY CHEEK!! IT HURTS!!!"
"This is just discipline because you didn't respect your elder!"
"Don't act like a boring old man giving advice to the younger generations just because they felt left out by modern society."
"Is that a shade thrown at older people? You are so grounded young girl!"
"WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!"
"YOU WANNA GO?!"
We fight a lot as siblings even physically.
*pant pant*
"Let's just go home. . ."
"Yeah. . . Although you were the one who started it, stupid nii-san!"
". . .pfft, HAHAHAHA!"
"W-What are you laughing at now?"
"YOUR FACE!"
". . .pfft, your face is also a mess, nii-san! HAHAHAHA!!"
This is how our daily conversation always ended up. We argued, we joke around, we fight, but at the end of the day, we always realized by the fact how similar we are to each other and laugh all our arguments away every day.
We walked home together while continuing to talk about various stuff on the way.
"We're home!!"
"Hey, go change your clothes immediately."
"I know that, silly nii-san!" said Luca while pouting a little.
"Tch! What's with that mouth?"
"Nevermind!"
We arrived home. Once inside, we went to our own separate rooms that are on the second floor. We started doing our own things once we set foot in our own room. I have finished changing and was about to do my own stuff.
"Time to continue my game from yesterday."
I turn on the PC and takes a seat, then I move my mouse towards a certain game shortcut that I've been hooked on to recently. I was about to double-click the shortcut when I heard knocking on my door.
"Come in, Luca!"
Luca opens the door and enters my room.
"Hey, Light-nii. You're about to play that game again? What about homework?"
"What kind of silly question was that? You know I already start doing my homework during classes once I was given one and you've been doing the same, aren't you?"
"Hmm, true."
"So, what did you want to talk about?"
"Huh? Did I say I have something to talk about?"
"You didn't. I just knew immediately the moment I saw your expression when you opened the door."
"Light-nii, you're scary good on stuff like this. How are you still single?"
"HUH? I'D SAY THE SAME BACK AT YOU, LITTLE SHIT!"
"WHAT WAS THAT?"
My sister pulls me out of the seat, drops me to the floor, and strangles me with her armlock as if she is a pro wrestler.
"DON'T CALL YOUR OWN TWIN A SHIT, YOU DUMBASS!!"
"SHUT UP! LET ME GO OR I'LL MAKE YOU CRY!"
"YOU STILL CAN TALK LIKE THAT EVEN IN MY HOLD?! FINE!"
Luca strengthens her hold.
"AGH! IM SORRY, IM SORRY!! GIVE UP!! GIVE UP!!!"
My sister finally let go of her hold. My neck was saved from further exhaustion.
*pant pant*
"I-I was confessed to by a senpai at school this morning. . ."
"Huh? So, what's your reply?"
"I turned him down without hesitation."
It was a surprise for me to see how my sister said she was confessed to with a flustered face and then suddenly she said she turned him down with a flat expression.
"Err, your facial expressions changed so quickly. So, what did you wanna ask about?"
"That senpai wasn't someone I like anyway, he was just simply someone who is older than me. But, what if I was confessed by someone I actually like, what will you do?"
"What will I do?"
"Well, we're not simply siblings. We're twins. We're inseparable. If I started going out with someone someday, our time together will reduce significantly. Are you fine with that?"
"Hmm, well, how about you then? If someday, I started going out with a girl I really like, what will you do?"
"Of course, I will support you. We're twins after all. Your happiness is my happiness. Then again, I was asking for your advice, why did you throw the question back at me?"
"See? You just answer it in my place by using the exact same words I was going to give if I answered just now."
"Hmmm. . . you didn't exactly answer, but I kinda see your point. Okay, thanks for clearing my head up! Let me rest on your bed."
"(Clearing her head up? Was she so troubled by that stuff? Well, it's actually good that she thought about that kind of stuff seriously.)"
"No problem, I'll be in front of my PC for a while anyway."
Luca gets on my bed and lay down. She pulls out her phone from her pocket and starts playing with it. We spent the rest of the day together like this. Sometimes, it's me in her room.
Usually, we're going to our part-time job after school every day, but today, we got a day off from the store manager. We both work at a nearby food stands as clerks. The pay is obviously not much but since there's two of us, it can barely hold us off monthly.
2 hours later. . .
"Nii! What's for dinner?"
"Hmm? Which one of us gonna cook today?"
"Please do it. I'm not in the mood today."
"Sigh! Okay okay. What do you want to eat?"
"How about some noodle-pizza?"
"Noodle-pizza? The dish where you cook noodles with eggs that results in a pizza-like shape egg-noodle?"
"That's a really roundabout way of explaining it, but, yeah, that one!"
"Okay, then. Go to the living room later. I'll call you when it's done."
"Sure. Thanks, Light-nii!"
I get up from the seat and leave the room. Heading downstairs to where my kitchen is. I prepared for the food Luca asked for about 30 minutes and afterward, I call down my sister to have dinner together.
We're having dinner at the table in the living room. We would sit on the floor every day while having dinner, lunch, or breakfast. Our house was not large enough to have its own dining room. There are 3 sofas on the three sides of the table, and there is a TV in the living room from the last side of the table.
While having dinner, we usually talk about what we've been through for today at school. After dinner, we would take bath in turns. I allow myself to always take it after her. After the bath, we would spend the rest of the day inside our own room. This is how our daily life went on for the past ten years.
