After my grandmother passed, her body was brought to the family home for a few days. We ate, talked and went about our day with her body in the same room. We also took turns staying awake throughout the nights to keep her company.

It features various cultural practices surrounding death in rural Japan, as also seen in the Academy award-winning film Departures (2008).
The series was published in Real Matter magazine in 2020.
It was also used in a Japanese studies lecture at La Trobe University to illustrate practices of everyday religion in a Japanese setting.
