The next morning I get woken up by the sunlight creeping through the curtains. In other words, the most annoying way to be woken up. I sit up straight and look around the room. The peaceful silence is broken by a sigh I let out. I have yet to understand the reason I have to help Yinu. He seems to be doing just fine, he doesn't seem to have anything troubling him or be in danger. Well besides the tree of rinse being sick. But that is not something that exclusively affects him. I guess it is something that I will have to figure out by myself.
After breakfast, I ask Xyeang to take me back to the tree and he does so immediately. When he opens the door the faint green glow from yesterday seems to have lessened. I raise an eyebrow and immediately open the portal to get the right books out.
'Do you need my help?' Xyeang asks.
I think for a minute and keep grabbing the books from the portal. Finally, I grab a book on poisons and hand it to them.
'Here look through this and see if you can find something about poisoning the immortal,' I explain and he nods.
'But don't read anything out loud, last time somebody did I ended up by death his door for about a week,' I recall the moment where Victoria read aloud a spell. Neither she nor I had thought about something like that happening.
'I'll be careful,' Xyeang replies taken aback.
I grab the book from last time and search up the spell from last time. I read it out aloud and the same green hue from last time returns.
'Weird, does the spell lessen in strength over time? Or is the tree continuously being attacked?' I think aloud and Xyeang looks up from his book; 'Wait, are you trying to suggest that this wasn't an accident?'
'Well, of course it could be an accident, but poisoning an immortal being is not done by just any poison. Such a strong poison wouldn't just be thrown away into nature without detrimental effects to the earth around it. Besides by the position of the tree I don't think that disposing of such a poison outside the castle walls would affect it, without affecting anything else,' I explain and Xyeang remains quiet.
'But let's not draw any conclusions just quite yet,' I add trying to calm the now deeply in thought Xyeang.
'I can't imagine any of the servants doing such a thing. Besides none of them have the key to this place.'
'Okay, who does have a key to this place?'
'Well, Maie, Maieing and I,' Xyeang answers and before I can reply a bright white light appears on the other side of the room. The light disappears and we see Yinu standing in front of us.
'Oh I see to have come at a bad time,' Yinu replies totally clueless.
Xyeang and I look at one another confused before looking at Yinu.
'What are you doing here?' I ask confused.
'Well, I came to meditate, when I meditate I give of excess moonlight and concentrated moonlight is a strong curing agent. Since the tree is sick I've been doing this for the last couple of days, but it doesn't seem to have much effect,' Yinu explains and I do remember the stories about thought to be incurable diseases being cured by moon priests but it all just seems too convenient.
'Well then, show me,' I demand. Xyeang looks at me confused and Yinu raises an eyebrow.
'Very well then,' Yinu replies and sits down on the ground.
'By the moon, who's power illuminated the past and the future to come-' his whispering turns into mouthing words as he starts to emit white light. A moment later he also starts to hover above the ground.
The tree of rinse seems to absorb the light and its own light seems to become brighter but it remains a bright green instead of its normal emerald green.
'Were you seriously considering my son to be the one to poison the tree?' Xyeang whispers in my ear.
'I am not ruling out any suspects,' I reply.
'That might be but Yinu being a moon priest would do anything to prolong his life. So, killing the tree that gives him eternal life wouldn't make sense,' Xyeang elaborates. I look from Xyeang to Yinu.
'Anyways, I'm very sorry but I have to leave, duties and stuff,' Xyeang states and I nod.
'It's fine my friend,' I reply and Xyeang nods, opens the door and walks off, closing the door being him.
Instead of grabbing the books about healing magic I grab one about the moon and its followers and look for the healing capabilities of the moon.
'If you wish to know anything about the moon, you could have just asked me,' Yinu states about an hour after I opened the book.
'Or do you still not trust me?' Yinu adds.
'I am very sorry, but I am trying to help my friend and his family who is in life-threatening danger, I couldn't rule out any suspects,' I explain.
'I- I'm sorry, I understand,' Yinu apologizes startled.
'It's fine, but what I've read is that the moonlight enhances healing spells?' I ask.
'Indeed it does.'
'Would you be able to send me moonlight so the spells on the tree will be empowered?'
Ying thinks for a moment.
'That might be difficult but we can try it some other way,' Yinu replies and puts his legs down to come out of his meditation state.
'So what we'll do is you aim the spell at me then I will enhance it and direct it towards the tree.'
I look at Yinu concerned as the light illuminating from him fades.
'Are you sure, that could be dangerous?' I reply.
'Doll, it's only a healing spell and besides, if something were to go wrong I'd have you and the moon to protect me,' Yinu replies.
'Very well, let us do this,' I reply.
'Do you actually have a spell in mind?' Yinu asks and it dawns in my mind that I haven't found a spell yet.
'I see,' Yinu looks through the pile of books and grabs one about flora.
He opens the book in the middle and turns over a couple of pages before his eyes land on a paragraph.
'This one,' he says handing me the book and points at the paragraph. The paragraph goes over healing an infected plant.
'How did you know this spell would be here?' I ask confused.
'During my study about the moon I took an interest in herbal medicine the library of the cathedral didn't have much on it, but they did have this book,' Yinu explains. 'Well come on,' Yinu adds and I get up from the floor.
'It's quite the long spell,' I state and Yinu nods. After I've read it over a couple times I take a deep breath. 'Ready?' I ask.
'Ready,' he confirms.
I start to read the spell as a dark orb starts to form in my hands. I finish the spell and the orb fires towards Yinu who catches it with one hand as he brings it over to his other hand the black orb starts to have waves of white pulse through it. With his other hand, Yinu fires the orb at the tree of rinse. The orb gets absorbed into the tree and the light that it emits starts to darken immediately. It isn't the right colour yet but it is a great step in the right direction.
I look at Yinu who seems to be exhausted.
'I have to bathe in the moonlight for a while,' he says as he falls to his knees.
'Will you be alright?' I ask rushing over but as I do a portal opens up underneath Yinu. I fail to get away in time and both Yinu and I pass through the portal.
My eyes take a moment to adjust to all the light around us. Only after my eyes have adjusted to all the white around us I realise I am in the middle of a pool. I look Yinu who is peacefully floating in the pool. He looks exhausted and even seems to be asleep.
I quickly get out of the pool and sit on the cold white stone surrounding the pool. When he said to bathe in the moonlight I did not think he would literally take a bath. Not that this seems like any typical pool. The water is not see through it is a milky white colour and the waves that were created by me struggling to get out of the water shimmer like the pool is filled with diamond dust. The room itself is filled with light but I am unable to find a light source. It is as if the stone itself is illuminating.
I run fingers over the cold pure white stone. It is smooth like it has been polished to perfection and yet it has a matte finish. I look around the room. The room is huge and also empty. The walls, floor and ceiling seem to be made from the same material as the pool, only it does have the glistering finish. The only colour in the room comes from the pillars. They are mostly polished white pillars but they have these golden-yellowy details. Vain like lines running all up the columns. It all just gives me a very chapel-like vibe.
Wait, Yinu has brought me with him to the Lunar cathedral. But from what I know is that the cathedral is not fond of visitors.
I decide to try and open one of my portals to get me out of this place. Even though I know that transportation magic works differently in the east. But to my surprise, the magic that I use to create my portals doesn't even reach the ground. Instead, it is split into two and absorbed my the pillars on either side of the room.
'That won't work, the pillars are designed to protect this sacred place, no magic can be used here,' out of nowhere I hear a voice behind me, causing me to almost fall off the ledge in surprise.
'Luck seems to be on your side again Larimar,' the voice says and I look behind me to see a woman in her late thirties standing in the door frame.
'You look confused, you do remember me, don't you?' The woman says closing the door behind her and walking towards me.
'How could I forget, Magna, it seems that you have changed your life for the better,' I reply.
'It seems I have, I felt so terrible after what happened. The guilt I felt was unbearable, but the church took me in, showed me how to cope with my pain and let me seek forgiveness,' she explains.
'How is she? Is she here by any chance?' She asks half excited half scared.
'She is well, she has met some great friends and seems contempt with her life,' I reply.
'But no, she is not with me. I seem to have gotten a new task to complete,' I add.
'Who is the new person that you'll help' she asks as she walks over me to the edge of the pool.
She looks at still peacefully floating Yinu and then looks at me in disbelief.
'Ying? What could he possibly need help with?' She asks puzzled and I raise my shoulders.
'I have yet to find out,' I reply and we both look Yinu his motionless body.
'It looks like he will take at least another hour before waking and you seem to be soaking wet, come with me I'll get you some dry clothes,' she tells me with a warm smile.
'Thank you, Magna,' I reply.
'It's the least I can do.'
Magna gave me beautiful white robes to change into. Their elegance in their simplicity. She walked me back to the hall and we said our goodbyes before I open the door.
I walk in on Yinu who has his back turned to me and who just dropped his robes. The sound of me opening the door alerts him to my presence. He quickly puts up a white ward between us. But as he does I can see him glance my way with a puzzled expression on his face. I, in turn, am perplexed by the big tattoo spread over his whole back.
'What are you doing here? These are sacred grounds,' he asks confused.
'I accidentally came with you through your portal,' I reply and it stays quiet for a moment.
'You are wearing different robes, did anyone see you?'
'Yes Magna, an old friend of mine came in, she offered me this chance of clothes,' I reply and Yinu drops his ward now wearing white robes as well.
It is a stark difference from the black robes, the white robes almost match his pale skin, which looks even paler to his raven black hair.
‘I guess you can call yourself lucky, anyone else would have killed you. But she herself should be executed for her treason,’ he replies with a pitiful tone to his voice. ‘Luckily I don’t play by those rules,’ he adds with a smile.
I led out a sigh in relief; ‘god you had me worried for a moment there,’ I reply.
‘Oh god no, what do you see me for?’ Yinu replies jokingly. ‘let me get you out of here, I still have some things to do here so I will see you later,’ he adds. Before I can reply he opens up a portal below me and I fall through.
