The sound of my shoe stepping onto the hardwood floor immediately alerts Yinu. Who turns around holding a rose quartz jar in which the demon struggles trying to get out. Yinu looks at me confused and raises an eyebrow.
'The sword of Vrishmir, king of the dammed, I see you have done your research,' he jokes and I stare at him perplexed.
'How did you know you were possessed, how did you get it out?' I mutter perplexed causing Yinu to giggle.
'I needed one, so I went and got possessed, I was always in total control however, but as to not make the demon expect a thing I had to give him the feeling that he was in control. So I gave him control over my emotions,' he explains calmly.
Now that I know that nobody was in danger my exhaustion hits me. I fall to my knees. Yinu places the jar on the dresser behind him and rushes over to me.
'Are you okay?' he questions holding my face in his hands.
'Yeah, yeah I am fine, just exhausted, I just need some rest,' I reply.
'Don't worry I will get you something that will get you back on your feet,' Yinu replies and shake my head in reply.
‘I sealed it,’ I reply and Yinu smiles.
‘Then I’ll use a portal’ before I can reply Yinu snips with his fingers but as expected no portal opens.
‘Ah I see, guess we’ll have to wait for the spell to wear off,’ Yinu states and I nod. ‘here let me help you up,’ Yinu says and helps me up.
He walks me over to his bed, ‘Now lay down,’ he tells me and pushes me onto the bed. I want to reply but seem to be too tired as my eyes fall shut.
I walk over to the door and try to reach out to touch it but I feel the sparks of magic before I do so. ‘not just a harmless spell I see,’ I say to myself.
‘Ying, is that you?’ Siv questions.
‘Yes sister, I’m fine don’t worry, I was never in any danger, but it seems that we are locked in here for now,’ I tell her.
‘What do you mean?’ I hear my father’s confused voice.
‘Larimar is resting right now, he was exhausted, I myself can’t get rid of the spell since I’m not a mage,’ I reply and it stays quiet on the other end.
‘Don’t worry, we’ll be fine. It’s only a matter of time before the spell wears off or Larimar wakes up,’ I reply and I hear a sigh coming from the other side of the door.
'Guess there is nothing else we can do but wait, will you be alright in there?' Father asks.
'We'll be fine, after Larimar wakes up I'll come to find you, don't worry,' I tell them.
'Okay, we'll talk to you later,' Svin replies.
I step away from the door and towards the jar containing the spirit.
'I'm very sorry dear, but it was either you or I,' I say and a grin appears on my face. 'Well that's not entirely true, but you get what I mean.'
The demon starts clawing at the quartz.
'Don't worry, this won't hurt a bit, I mean I think,' I say to it as I place the jar down on the ground. I can't help but do some ballet, as I make my way over to a big wardrobe on the other side of the room, when I was younger mother forced me to take ballet but now I actually enjoy doing ballet, and I fling the doors open.
'Demon salts, demon salts, where did I place the demon salts?' I whisper to myself as I scan the shelves filled to the brim with jars in different shapes and sizes.
'I should really organise these.' My eyes fall upon the large black jar on the lowest shelf.
'There you are, my dear,' I say out loud as I grab the jar from the shelf and close one door with my right hand and the other with my feet.
I carry the jar back to the quartz jar containing the demon.
I make a circle out of the dark grey demon salts, to the best of my capabilities as I hum a lullaby my mother used to sing. Once the circle is complete I finish it off with a pentagram in the circle. Within the middle of it all the quartz jar.
'Perfect!' I exclaim and clap my hands together.
I walk over to my bed and look at Larimar sleeping peacefully.
I lean over and when our faces are just inches apart I finally reach what I was reaching for.
I attached a dagger to the side of my bed, just in case of an attack while sleeping. I take the dagger out of its holster and before I walk back to the ritual circle I look at Larimar, peacefully sleeping and I can't help but smile.
I turn around and walk back to the circle where the demon hasn't stopped clawing at the quartz.
'Stop it, you might actually get a scratch on it,' I state but it doesn't deter the demon and I let out a frustrated groan.
'Whatever, it's not going to help you,' I tell it and I raise the dagger to my hand. I hope I still remember the ritual.
I make an incision in my hand and clamp my hand shut letting the blood drip onto the salt.
'For those who shall perish thy power is invaluable, but those who perish by my hands will bestow thy power upon me. Grace shall guide thy to a new life. For those unfortunate to fall to my hands their soul belongs to the moon, for in the name of the moon, light shall burn!' With that the salt circle starts to burn with a dark red fire. The irony smell of blood mixed with the screaming of the demon within the quartz jar makes me feel uneasy to say the least. Once the circle is fully set ablaze it spreads to the pentagram. And the screaming of the demon is soon thereafter overtaken by the sound of his body burning away, as the heat of his sins burn away his being.
As soon as the demon has completely disintegrated the deep red flames start to fade out. The salt has completely burned away leaving only the clear quartz jar left standing. Not even ash is left behind in the jar, a complete incineration, perfect.
I fall to my knees besides the jar and scorch the wound on my palm shut using the still hot quartz.
Once the quartz has cooled down I take the lid of off the jar and take a whiff of the smell that comes out of the jar. It smells like a mixture of roses, lavender and cherries. The smell of success.
I inspect the inside of the jar and luckily the demon didn't manage to damage my jar.
'I knew rose quartz was a great idea,' I take the jar from the ground and hold it into the light, that's when I notice the slightest of scratches reflecting in the light.
I groan annoyed and feel my rage fill me.
'My favourite jar!' I yell angrily as I fling the jar towards the wall, I wanted to open a portal towards the cathedral of the moon where there is a room where all damaged quartz jar go but I forgot that Larimar’s magic prevents me. The jar shatters against the wall and the shards fall to the ground. I let out a groan in frustration and grab a sweeper and dustpan and clean up the mess I made myself. Even the smallest of scratches can be seen as a weak point. Making a jar that’s scratched useless. I close the portal and grab the jar filled with demon salt and place it back in the wardrobe.
I let out a sigh and look around the room. I stare at my painting on the other side of the room. A vase filled with tiger lilies, the canvas covers a wall from top to bottom. The painting is in memory of a great friend of mine, who sadly passed away a while ago, their favourite flowers used to be tiger lilies.
I let out a sigh and sit down on my bed on the other side of Larimar. What am I supposed to do now?
Even after I have organised my wardrobe filled with ingredients and made a list of all the ingredients I'm running low on, Larimar has yet to wake up.
'I'm tired of this,' I say to myself and walk towards the bed where Larimar has remained perfectly still, he hasn't moved a muscle.
'By the power of the moon, bestow thy power upon this vessel chosen by the mark of commitment,' I chant and give Larimar a peck on the lips. Before I can pull away completely Larimar opens his eyes and looks at me with a confused expression.
'Oh you've finally woken up, I was just checking up on you. It's been a few hours and I was starting to get worried,' I lie, Larimar remains quiet and looks around the room.
'How do you feel? Do you remember what happened?' I ask and Larimar nods in response.
'I feel great, like a rush of energy just came over me,' Larimar replies and a smile creeps onto my face.
'So do you think you'll be able to lift your spell?' I ask and Larimar gets up from the bed and walks over to the door and whispers something that I can't make out. Suddenly the invisible wall that bound us to this room shatters like a glass pane would. Disappearing into the ear.
Larimar opens the door and looks at me with a self-satisfied smile. I walk past him into the hall, I turn around and look at him.
'Great, I'll go find my dad and sisters to tell them everything worked out fine,' I tell him and see the sword of king [!] lying on the floor.
'You should probably take that back to the armoury,' I say pointing at the sword.
'Yes, I probably should, even though I did not even need it,' Larimar says embarrassed and goes with his hands through his hair.
'I'll talk to you later and thank you for wanting to safe me,' I say with a friendly smile and Larimar smiles back. I turn around and walk away to find my dad.
After asking a couple of servants about his whereabouts I finally find my father in the library.
'What are you doing within the archives? I thought you hated reading?' I say to father who looks up from the scroll spread out in front of him.
'Indeed he does, but luckily I don't,' mother comes around the corner holding multiple scrolls and books.
'How are the two of you?' Father asks.
'You didn't cause trouble, did you?' Mother adds.
'We are fine thank you and of course I didn't cause any trouble. I would've been perfectly fine without his help,' I explain.
'So, what are the two of you doing?' I ask curiously.
'Well, lately we have been getting many applications for your hand in marriage so we've been looking for the best ones, based on location and record,' dad explains calmly. I let out an annoyed groan; 'don't I get any say in this?'
'Of course you do, we pick out the best ones and you can pick any of those you'd like,' mother tells me sternly.
'Well what if I don't want to get married? It is highly looked down upon for a priest of the moon to get married,' I tell them as I have done many times before and mother scoffs in return.
'Nonsense, you're the most important and strongest person in the church, I doubt they dare to talk down upon you,' mother states.
'Don't worry Yinu, we won't do you wrong,' father adds trying to reassure me.
I let out an annoyed groan and open a portal in front of me and let myself fall into it, giving me enough force to rise on the other side. Before either of my parents can react I have already closed the portal behind me.
I let out an exhausted sigh which echoes through the empty halls of the cathedral.
'Why do they never think about what I want?' I ask myself and make my way over to the room where Elvira makes the quartz urns.
'Ying to what do I owe this visit?' Elvira asks delighted when I open the door to her quarters.
'Normally I can hear people coming, but you don't make a sound when you walk so you always take me by surprise,' Elvira adds jokingly.
I smile and ask; 'Do you have a new urn for me? Mine got damaged,' I ask and Elvira raises an eyebrow.
'Normally I'd see the shards fly in and I'd know if one someone needs a new one,' she states and as she does a portal opens and a urn flies against the wall. The shards falling onto a huge pile of shards in the corner.
'Well mine shattered due to an oversight of somebody I didn't feel the need to take it with me,' I state and as soon as I do Elvira hits me on the head.
'Ying, rose quartz has huge benefits when using healing magic, so you better bring those shards to me,' she tells me sternly.
'Sorry Elvira, I'll get them to you as soon as possible,' I tell her.
'No, get them now, while I get you get you a different urn from the storage. Lucky for you I ran out of rose quartz shards so it's not that big of a deal,' she tells me and I shake my head while smiling.
'Sure thing, be right back,' I reply and open a portal that leads back to my room as she turns around and walks towards the storage room.
