Steven, Connie, Page and Tosh sat on the hill by the lighthouse, around a large picnic basket and blanket. There was a white fence around the hill. The kids were chatting away when Connie asked why the fence got put up. Page sensing her brother's distress scooted closer to him and said, "there was an accident, but it was taken care of".
Steven began talking, telling a story about Amethyst and him playing on the hill and she fell off the cliff, landing right outside the garage. She hit a rock, gem first, and cracked herself. The damage wasn't too bad, but her form was glitching. She had a googly eye and a very large ear. Bismuth came up to check the damage, after Amethyst's words began to reverse, and told everyone to get on the warp pad, they were heading to Rose's fountain, since Steven hadn't figured out that power yet.
"What power hadn't you figured out yet" Connie asked, dipping a chip into some salsa, Steven had just dipped into. He mumbled a response, and continued to share the salsa with his friend.
Page answered for him "Rose, his mother, was able to heal cracked gems with her tears. Steven's tears can't heal, so we had to go to the fountain."
Steven continued the story. when they reached the pad on the other side, the fountain had been overrun with vegetation, clogging it and emptying the basin of tears. Leaving Page, Amethyst and Steven by the fountain proper, the other four cut their way through the dense growth to unclog it. Amethyst was told to stay still or her crack would get worse, but she glitched just as she walked away to sit down, and flipped around to run straight into a wall. Her legs and arms became long strings and her head and foot switched places. Page had to cut a few vines down as they reached towards Steven. They heard a rumbling and scooped Amethyst up to get her in the basin. Steven started to cry in fear because Amethyst was getting worse, and a single tear fell on her gem just as the fountain started running again. He thought he had done the healing, but Spinel explained they unplugged the fountain in time.
"So she got better, and I'm still useless" Steven finished, downhearted. Page whacked him on the arm to admonish him as she passed juice boxes around. Connie started complaining about a headache and took her glasses off. She could see clearly now. Page took a look around and had an idea.
"Steven, do you still double dip your chips?" she asked. When he nodded his response, she smiled and gave him a big hug. "Steven! You can heal, you don't have healing tears you have healing saliva!"
"My spit? Connie, are you okay?" he asked.
"I'm fine, better than fine, I just don't know how i'm going to explain this to my mom, or my optometrist." she replied, before taking a moment to pop the lenses out of her frames.
The kids packed up, and the Universe kids went home to tell the gems what they discovered.
