Shane kept almost nodding off to sleep. He had sat down against the cool stone wall and was sure that he couldn't stay awake for much longer. His body ached from all the running, the cut on his cheek throbbed softly. When he touched it, it stung a little. His head ached and he was really thirsty. A little water would be great right now, but he really wasn't going to risk going out. Eventually he decided to start a conversation to stay awake.

“Are we actually in the same place in this dimension as to where New York City is in mine?” Shane asked curiously and Rowan shrugged.

“Could be,” she replied indifferently. “Normally we would appear pretty close, but it also didn't bring us to the dimension I had given in. Who knows, we might be on a whole different continent.”

“How does that device actually work? Does it have a name?”

Rowan looked up with a frown. She looked tired, the bags underneath her eyes seemed more pronounced and her eyes seemed more sunken than before. Shane himself managed to barely quell a yawn.

"Yeah, his name is Kevin," she replied sarcastically. “The Professor calls it a Tuner, but I don't really know how it works. It has something to do with wavelengths or frequencies. It has buttons for the dimensions and coordinates. I don't know exactly how it works, I just use it, ”she explained.

“The professor?” Shane asked, surprised. 

He hadn't heard about this person yet and was very curious as she hadn't really told anything about herself or what she was doing. Perhaps this would allow him to learn more about her. He quickly realized he hadn't told anything about himself either, but Rowan also didn't ask about anything like he did. 

When he asked this, she sighed irritated but she still started to explain.

“The person who developed and created the Tuner. Normally you only get one if you have permission, which hardly anyone outside of the First dimension has. They want to be in charge of everything. The Professor used to work for them, but for some reason he doesn't divulge, he was fired and banned to the 4th.”

“So he just took his design to a different dimension and decided to sell drugs?” Shane asked.

It was just a guess and an opportunity for him to figure out what was really going on with her. The drug angle was the most logical for him right now. Still, he had no idea how she would react to his question, she just seemed so unpredictable. Rowan glared at him, which didn't seem like a good sign to him.

“That’s none of your business, Officer Friendly,” she scowled at him. 

“Actually, it is, since you’re trying to sell it in my dimension and my superior put me on the case,” he mumbled weakly. 

Rowan glowered at him and pursed her lips. Shane responded by looking away and stopped asking questions. He was far too exhausted to turn it into a discussion, or more accurately; into a fight.

 Shane grabbed the shirt he took off earlier, bunched it up and put it behind his head so that he could lean his head against the rocks more comfortably, crossed his arms and closed his eyes. His stomach growled softly because hadn't eaten for hours and hadn't really thought about food until now.
