When the first vampires began to settle down here on this very island, they found that strange things would begin to happen. Those teenage vampires would go crazy if they had no mate after a year. And so our tradition of the mating ceremony began.

The way we are doing this is based on a person’s feelings. We will put you in a cave for a week. You will starve without food, and then you will feel a tug. The tug will feel off, as if someone is pushing you somewhere. Just follow your instincts. Then you will find your mate and bite them. Thus completing the ceremony. After that the two will be mated forever and will be inseparable. To be unfaithful would be unwise as your mate would know. Your feelings will be tied and your bond deeper than the blood that runs through you.

If one’s mate were to die then the other cannot ever take on another mate. The living one will also be cut off from their feelings because they have died with their mate. So you must take care of your mate and keep them safe. Never hurt them for a bond broken can never be fully repaired. Doubt will linger.
