“What the hell is happening? First, it was everyone understanding each other as if we didn’t use different languages, and then just a few weeks ago all the things we sent up into space came crashing back down to earth at the same time despite its distance the day prior. It’s like everything is going to shit.” Without another second thought more Alan rushed off the porch and back to his house to bring the first trip of supplies over. Alan could have nothing else on his mind but getting everything they needed into the basement as fast as possible so that he could treat Iris’ injuries to the best of his abilities.
Alan rushed down the stairs looking for the best place to throw everything down for one of the twins to put away. “I don’t care who does it but Joseph and Luna put away the things I bring down here in the correct area or room and the other go bring the extra batteries from upstairs down here so we can have some sort of light down here.” Tossing everything out of the makeshift bag he made with the jackets in the Indota’s home, Alan runs back upstairs to bring more stuff over from their house. Coming to a quick stop before exiting the front door Alan looks for a pen and paper so he could at the very least inform the Indota's what happened to Iris, where she is and why their place is ransacked of everything, and that they are more than welcome to stay with them until all of this craziness is over.
Once entering the house Alan puts the note on the front table door next to a bowl with the keys Alan had used to get inside the house. When doing so he notices a picture of the Indota family right next to the bowl “Yes things may be looking up for us. How could I forget that Mr. Indota was once an ex-military or police whatever. He should know something about all of this.” Making his second and final round of scavenging for supplies Alan takes a second look before leaving the Indota home, closing the door and locking it behind him so that no further harm could be done to the inside.
Throwing the makeshift bag on the table Alan rushes over to Iris “I...Iris, you have to hang in there ok I’ll do everything in my ability to make sure you’re alright so that even the hospital will be..” Iris grabs aros sleeve in a fast sluggish movement almost as if struggling to even move her arm. “Alan I don’t think this is something that can be fixed.”
“What are you talking about? It's just a bone or two in your legs, I’m sure you’ll be fine, long-term rehabilitation maybe but fine nonetheless.”
“Idiot I’m not talking about that.” Struggling to raise her voice while enduring the return of pain from her broken legs. ``Did you not see what was happening out there? People, buildings, everything you can think of was being removed, not vanishing from thin air as if never existing and being replaced with densely packed trees and things I’ve never seen before.”
Alan sat there for a second wondering if he should mention the 300-foot tall monster he saw when he got Joshua and Luna from the middle school. “I’m not sure about what you’re talking about with people and buildings disappearing and being replaced by wildlife but I did see something that wasn’t natural before we found you.”
“Well then it's probably linked with what I say-AGH '' Iris couldn’t help but scream when trying to adjust the way she was on the couch.
“What are you doing, laying back down you can’t move, quite literally. Your legs are broken if not possibly shattered. All you need to worry about is being able to walk again, but that can’t happen if you mess your legs up more than they already are.” Alan grabbing both of Iris’ shoulders in a comforting way.”Just sit tight I'll make you something, alright. Josh, Luna put these things away and be prepared not to leave the basement till Mom and Father say so got it.”
Thinking to herself Iris couldn’t help but note how much Alan changed when the twins were born. “Looking back on it he really was like the twins, just carefree and could do nothing but think of what's next but now he is more serious and straight to the point. I wish he didn’t always think about the now and what to do to just prepare for whatever was next.” She couldn’t help but look at Alan and think of what is next not only for him, her, or the twins but the whole country.
EXTRA: Forgot to write how they see in the basement when the power is out so instead of writing it I drew it since it was such a small scene
Alan: "Why are you hanging flashlights from the ceiling?"
Twins: "Lights went out and the batteries in the garage are too heavy."
Alan: " SO YOU COULDN'T WAIT!?!"
Note: Alan doesn't have "Anime protagonist hair" it's just bedhead and I wanted to differentiate it from Joshua's hair which is short and spikey.
