THOUGHTS ON KIDS AND THEIR FIRST SIGNS OF ASSERTIVENESS
How we dress or style our babies is often a reflection of ourselves and our taste. But of course, a child is his/her own person and they might have their own ideas of how they wish to look like. This often happens as they reach their second birthday - a period which we often dub Terrible Two as this time brings its own set of troubles for us parents in the form of toddler rebellion and tantrums. Worse still, it will continue right up to when they are teenagers (or so I've been told, since my own children are 6 and 2 respectively). However, their assertiveness is needed in order for them to know themselves better, to be able to stand up for themselves and to be independent from us later on. The only thing is, this could appear in a toddler as young as 18 months. Unbelievable, right?
But never mind.
It IS disappointing to buy a special outfit for your child only for him/her to refuse wearing it, but I guess everything is part of their learning, and as parents it is our duty to guide them. Besides, we parents are much more clever than our children (for now). There are lots of ways we could negotiate and set our limits. We've got our own set of tricks growing up ;-)
