Yes. It's 2021 and the problem doesn't stop there.
But first and foremost.... here, have a cute baby stegosaurus
After spending about 2 years dancing around vertical-scrolling sequential storytelling, I found that making them is still ripe with problems. So, let's start with the most obvious one.
It's hella long time to make a single episode.
Alright. so.... the most obvious question how to make it shorter? DuckDuckGo-ing around you'll find mostly variations of these:
Practice and be more proficient. and the corollary Speed is proportional to skill.
Manage your schedule/time/whatever. And don't forget to buy this book about "making comics FASTER in CRAZY UNEXPECTED WAYS!!" (displayed in a jarring huge banner blocking the entire website) but this is an advice on, well, scheduling. If you're slow as snail putting out a single episode, you'll be surprised at how you're still slow as snail. So uhh... next.
Have more people helping you to draw those damned action-packed fighting scene on the street with many bullies around with camera with perspective projection shooting from above and tilted 35.6362213 degrees around {0.1313, 0.5232, 0.23245} axis haha good luck with that.
Ctrl+C --> Ctrl+V. TADA MAGIC
Use this {application who is hype at the moment}.
Really, just use this {application who is hype at the moment}. And then use this asset which requires some coins and DON'T FORGET TO BUY THIS BOOK ABOUT MAKING COMICS FASTER IN CRAZY UNEXPECTED WAYS!!!
Alright alright that fighting scene with bullies is just something I made up, but you get the gist of it.
But... the question is... will they really speed up comics making?
Let's see....the fastest I can get currently for drawing 25 panels, from blank canvas to fully colored, with others tricks picked up not found by naive web surfing, is 7 hours when I'm lucky enough (meaning that I don't experience thing as, suddenly, a cat walks by on my keyboard and decides to take a dump). And that's with {application who is hype at the moment} and {application who is competent, but looked down at the moment} to cover each other weaknesses (I did episodes with 50+ panels in 12 hours but it resulted in very distorted anatomy as a form of sacrifice.). I wonder then, can this be sped up even more?
So, for the sake of curiosity (and future benefit mwahahah), I decided to wear my software engineering hat again and tackle this problem by researching and speculating some novel algorithms. I've been diligently and religiously shifting between making episodes for my shorter comics and writing bunch of codes-that-only-god-understands-what-they-mean-in-some-months-to-come. So...uhh... yeah. The goal is that maybe I could create an {application who is hyped} in the future, even though I know that it is a very, very lofty and ambitious goal. Still, one can at least allowed to dream, I guess. At least at some point in the future I maybe could sell people a book ABOUT MAKING COMICS FASTER IN CRAZY UNEXPECTED WAYS and insert a huge banner of it in between of every panels. Anyway, it's been quite fun writing them, as a refresher from looking at my comics statistics (sigh...).
I was going to make a notice or something in that cursed comic of mine that I will put that on pause (which means now they are placed on the backburner), but well. Even though I haven't been putting episodes of Nathan & co.,
something interesting happened. It might be worth for another write-up.
Or not. I don't know, depends on my mood. Anyway I'm pleased to say that all my efforts on this research has been STUCK. Yaaaaayy. Hurrah. Just because friggin displaying text correctly and some images on the screen business. That's why I'm dumping this another garbage and pointless episode: to vent my frustration that doubles as brag. Now I understand the Krita developer's struggles even deeper.
If you're wondering why the previous chapter had lyrics of korean song from 1980 era, it's just to rebut some folks' claim that tapas novel platform can't display letters other than latin. And also, I should've reported a very serious issue to Tapas, but... lack of incentive make me feel better to procratinate. Heheh. Let's just pray and hopes that nothing bad happen.
And then there's a chapter scheduled in the far future. I will keep pushing this one to some random date in the future. That means if you can read it, something bad happened.
Footnote: replace hyped app with Clip and looked down app with Krita
You read it. Don't spend any of your precious time reading this, read Just Usual Days or MY TALKING BUTT WANTS BULLY'S LOVE or YOU ARE MINE NOW or A Dinosaur Ate My Cookies instead. It's my sandbox, thus contains zero stories. That's why it's non-fiction.
