Chapter 2 - The Genius
It has been 8 years since Mr. Cornelius and I started with my training, since that day when we checked my status for the first time I have been forbidden to check it again until I could hit Mr. Cornelius and although having it recorded in my hand it would be easy to hide and check it on the sly but Mr. Cornelius can sense any magical frequency inside the library so it is impossible to fool him, although that didn't stop me from trying, A year after I started my training I waited for Mr. Cornelius to go to sleep in his room on the second floor of the library, I sneaked down to the 49th floor which is the last floor that can be freely entered which took me almost 1 hour, I tried to check my status but at the very second I said "sta" a huge magical pressure appeared on my back and when I turned around Mr. Cornelius' angry face told me without words — "Try it, I dare you" —, after Mr. Cornelius' silent threat and the punishment of the next day I never tried to check my status again.
So during these years I haven't been able to know how much my condition has changed but I'm sure it must be quite a lot since my training has been focused on increasing and controlling my mana reserve, as well as intensive study of all magical elements, spellcasting, magical contracts, basic concepts and the most complicated of all "combat practice".
Combat practice, unlike the rest of my studies, was incredibly complicated since it took me 1 whole year to even be able to strengthen my body with mana for 1 hour continuously and without taking into account that my practice opponent is Mr. Cornelius so I have never managed to give him a single blow or even a scratch.
In these 8 years I have managed to increase my control and amount of mana so I can use the reinforcement with mana for 20 days in a row even when sleeping, I have also managed to read every book in the library and learn the contents of each of them by heart, I managed to perfect the sorcery and developed several spells of my own, that Mr. Cornelius told me to never show them to anyone, I even managed to develop an artificial way to get unique magics with sorcery but requires many conditions and a contract that basically uses all my mana so it is very dangerous for the user.
Despite achieving great advances in almost all fields I still can't defeat Mr. Cornelius, in the last practice that was in my last birthday we were tied but he told me that he was only using 70% of his power.
I spent the whole year training to finally be able to defeat Mr. Cornelius, since today is my birthday as every year we will have a practice meeting and he warned me that he would use 100% of his power, but that's not the best of all he also told me that the training would be outdoors, since I can remember I have lived inside the library and due to the rigorous training and my love for books I have never interacted with the young people who enter the library in the afternoons, but today will be different will be the day that I will be able to see the world.
Wrapped in my thoughts I overlooked the arrival of Mr. Cornelius, who did not hesitate with the opportunity to remark my mistake, with a slight grimace of disapproval and a cold tone.
— I see that you have time to fantasize while you leave your back uncovered Alexander, you look like a novice. —
I could feel a great shiver run down my back as I felt the penetrating gaze of Mr. Cornelius, I half turned around with a jump and after a bow I said with a fearful tone.
— An apology master, the excitement of going out into the world disoriented my senses, there won't be a second time". —
Mr. Cornelius just closed his eyes, turned around and walked towards the first floor of the library, but before leaving, still with his back turned, he said with a cold tone.
— Then we'd better leave at once so that you can feel more at ease, he said. —
After hearing his words I could not contain my joy and shouted with all my strength.
— Of course we will, master!!!! –
After that I could swear I heard a slight laugh from Mr. Cornelius although it may have been just my imagination, following his steps I left my room heading to the door of the first floor, when I arrived Mr. Cornelius was standing in front of the huge double door of wood, metal and gold that measured about 16ft high and 12ft wide clearly imposing and basically immovable as it is reinforced with sorcery of the highest level known. (All to safeguard the knowledge of the kingdom).
Upon sensing my presence Mr. Cornelius placed a hand on each of the leaves of the huge door and just before opening them he turned his head and said with a slight smile and a cheerful but calm tone.
— Welcome to the world Alexander. —
Shortly after he pushed the doors a slight pale yellow magic glow sprouted from his hands and spread to the last corner of the doors and as if they weighed nothing the huge doors began to move without any problem letting in the fresh air from outside along with a warm light that flooded the entire room, I could not help smiling and a slight whisper sprouted from my lips.
— Today my journey begins. —
Seconds later the big doors opened completely and Mr. Cornelius started to leave slowly and I hurried to follow him, as soon as I reached him I asked him very excited and confused. confused.
— Mr. Cornelius, where will be the combat practice?, since we always use the practice room on the top floor of the library. —
Mr. Cornelius kept his eyes straight ahead as he continued walking through the library garden and with a calm expression and a cool tone he replied.
—- Today is a special day Alexander, so today you will get to know the great combat arena and it is also a good opportunity for you to see all my power without fear of destroying something. —
His words made me a little nervous but without a doubt I am confident that I will be able to defeat Mr. Cornelius this time, while we walk I observe the school, it is immense it has dozens of buildings composed of carved stone and gold 4 and 5 stories high with many huge windows and surrounded by large trees and gardens as if they were small fairytale castles, the young students walk through the corridors, laugh and play everywhere.
Despite being a magic school where all its students are wizards, I don't feel any great magical pressure emanating from anywhere besides the one emitting from Mr. Cornelius, so I thought, maybe he is stronger than the average wizards, or maybe they are all suppressing their mana, since according to Mr. Cornelius' teachings mana suppression is one of the most basic techniques for a wizard so he can go unnoticed.
The way from the library to the combat arena takes about 2 hours walking since the school is almost like a city, it covers almost the same as the royal capital since the mages are the most valuable resource for the kingdom they have priority over many things.
Lost in my thoughts I lost track of time and when I least expected it the combat arena appeared in front of my eyes, it is a circular building of 150m in diameter and 10m high, like the rest of the buildings in the school was mainly made of carved stone but this was more imposing as it received you with pillars of 8m high that bordered the entire building, Without realizing it we arrived to the big entrance of the arena and when we crossed it a giant stadium received us but without a single person apart from us, we walked to the center of the arena and while I was observing the surroundings the voice of Mr. Cornelius was heard a little far away.
— Are you ready Alexander, for the final practice? —
And regaining my composure I answered with enthusiasm and a touch of egocentrism.
— Since I was born, master —.
