Malachi:
"Come on your almost done brother, please just hold out a little longer." Levin my blond-haired, emerald eye twin brother pleads with me
His eyes twinkle at me. We've up since dawn, and with no progress in figuring out anything. We have been discussing war for the past hour but it changed into conquered lands. Now I have no idea what my brother and I are even trying to get across to each other
"Okay," I pause and put down the piece of paper that I'm looking at. "Backtrack Levin, I lost you like five sentences ago. What the hell you are even talking about? I'm trying to do multiple things at once and you talking to me at the same time about something else entirely is not helping."
"Sorry brother, but I'm still on the topic of conquered kingdoms." He tells me his eye drift off looking at the five stacks of paper that have to do with conquered kingdoms.
I let out a sigh "Haaa, which conquered kingdom are we talking about? Ones that mom took over or ones that were recently acquired by the imperial family?" I question my twin
"Cursica" Levin answers
I wave my hand, the stack of papers on that kingdom appears on my desk leaving its spot on the floor of my office.
"And why are you telling me to hold out?" I ask my twin because of his first comment
"Ohhh, you know... You just look like you're about to throw something at me. I mean you snapped at Edward. He left a few minutes ago to get tea and you barely acknowledge anything he said. It's just not like you to not care about what tea you're going to have."
"Care about my tea?" I give my twin a look of confusion "Forgive me for not caring what tea he is getting, considering the fact that he has been my aid since we were little and knows exactly what tea I like."
"No need for the sarcasm Malachi. There is no one in this world that knows you better than me, the person who's been at your side twenty-four-seven since we were born." He rolls his eyes at me "I can tell when something is eating you up. My only objective is to find out what exactly that is.
"So that's why you brought up the conquered land, because I'm drowning in work, and you don't want me to burn out." I get out of my chair peering out the window that looks into the rose garden and the courtyard that my brother and I often spare in.
"Yes, you're right brother, but please do update me," Levin says as he walks over to stand beside me looking out at his pride possession: the rose garden.
"Everything is fine. Only about one-tenth of the estimated population of Cursica is making their way here, at least within the first-month family registration is happening. Slaves are being sent to the capital or to other places to reclaim their place within society. I've subjugated the land to Grand Duke Strowan, and have Magacina helping him." I take a seat, picking up the report from the top of the pile on my desk. "So far everything is going well."
"How many conquered people are showing up at the castle demanding to see you?" Levin brows go up with the question
"Tooooo many" I sigh at my twin's question
"Ohh... please do tell brother" He looks at me in anticipation, leaning against the desk that sits against the window.
"What rumors do people hear about us that they think they can just sell their daughter to us."
"Seriously?"
"Oh, my stars..." I change my voice to imitate an old guy "If you take a look at my lovely daughter, I'd be willing to give you anything to show my loyalty."
"The smart ones listen to the people at the gate, get registered, and then leave. I already have enough problems with doing audiences with my people, but people who blatantly don't know the law of the land just upset me to no end, and most of them are nobles that haven't lost their titles yet. "
"Sounds fun. You have no idea how glad I am that I don't have to deal with any of that shit." Levin tells me
Knock, Knock
"Your Majesty, your advisor has return may I enter," Edward asks: his voice muffled by the door
"You may enter" I respond. Edward enters carrying a tray of tea
"Mmmn, from the smell I can tell it's a peach infusion, one of my favorites," I tell him smiling happily that Edward truly does know what I like.
"I hate to tell you this, but as I was preparing it a soldier told me we have some commoners at the gate refusing to leave," Edwin tells me.
"Do they have a reason for refusing to leave?" I question
"I didn't hear much, but they have a girl tied up and won't leave unless they see you."
"You know what, today I'm feeling generous. Open the castle up for audiences with the Emperor. Welcome the people in at my gate" I look over to my twin "And you get to accompany me for all of this" I point at my brother
I laugh evilly, enjoying the pain my brother is going to be in from listening to all of the trivial worries of the people.
"But I don't wanna. I have other, more important things to do." He says, his face contristed with surprise. I could see in his eyes he was trying to think of a way to get out of this.
"Come now brother, it's going to be a while before I have children that can listen to the people, so we must," I remind Levin
"Ugh, damn it, finnne" He groans
"But first we drink tea," I say sipping out of my cup "Welcome the family in, as for the girl if she really is tied up ask why," I say to Edward
"Shall I serve them refreshments?" He asks
"Yes, it might be their last meal of course make it semi-nice" I smile, mostly from enjoying my tea time, not from the fact that I might have to get blood all over the throne room.
Edward leaves the room to go and serve our guests. Levin sits down pouring himself some tea.
