A long time ago, in a fantasy realm of dark creatures, everything went so catastrophic and seemed to be in chaos. Demons and werewolves fought continuously like beyond no end. Then again, it's for eternity---their war it is. Even if it's unavoidable, humans just wanted to live in peace, cry in harmony, get focused on their own, and do something accordingly without being bothered. But as time goes by, the human force unknowingly dragged down those creatures' worlds, causing a great, brutal war to occur. It's unavoidable. As if their worlds tore off themselves apart, it fortuitously interfered with the human world.
It is the human souls that broke down the two worlds, but it is also the human souls that would bring their worlds back into normal, like how it used to be. To gain peace beyond these worlds, collecting powerful human souls would be the stumbling block's solution.
Centuries have passed down, both parties, demons and werewolves, somehow made it to the human world, alive and mighty, but in a good condition to take revenge against the mortals. Their intentions might be too cruel; hunting humans as if it's their prey, taking human souls to sacrifice for their own prosperity and selfishness, and assassinating the innocents as if they're some mere insects. For humans, it must be too hard and painful to endure all of those things, especially in this barbarous reality. The cruelty brought by these creatures to the world, made humans leave no choice. To think that there are more creatures other than humans in their world, is more terrifying than death.
In the present time, a certain guy in his late teens named Bryle Cain Zapanta, claimed that he's living a boring tragic life. Yes, a boring and a tragic life. Despite facing the world's current mayhem, he must face first his duties and responsibilities as a human being. But those duties and responsibilities are just a few---cause he's just a student and a part-time worker. Nothing else.
"That will be fifty pesos," he smiled at the female customer to show her, at least, the power of customer service. He then handed her the packed bread she ordered.
*50 pesos is equivalent to 1.03 USD
"Thank you and please come back again," Bryle sarcastically greeted as the customer left in the store. He isn't the type to show his true smile to a stranger, even if it's his job.
Wearing a uniform that doesn't suit his taste makes him wanted to puke. But since he wanted to live and pay for his pending taxes, he had no choice but to do his job despite being lazy and peevish all the time.
Wake up in the morning, eat his meals, go to (college) school, do his part-time job, go back home, do the school assignments, and sleep. Those things kept repeating in his life like a never-ending cycle. That's why he called it "a boring life." Nevertheless, he must be thankful to have this great life, though a lot of humans barely experienced this kind of prosperity. Not all humans breathe the same air, by that, taking advantage of them is an inhumane thing.
"Hey, bro," his co-worker, Philip Salvador, poked at him in his shoulder while pointing at the television that was placed at the upper right corner in the store, "Look at that."
After Philip said that, Bryle then took a glimpse at the news and sighed gratingly. It turns out the news didn't scare nor flinch him, but instead, it gave him the fervent shivers.
"Another five people in the province of Cebu City were attacked yesterday at night by some weird wild creature. It was rumored that the werewolf was the one that attacked the victims. Two people died, and the other three were badly injured. Since the remaining victims couldn't speak up yet as of the great trauma, the witnesses volunteered themselves. According to one of the witnesses, it wasn't a werewolf, but instead, it's an unknown creature with black horns and red-eye between its forehead that attacked them," reported the news.
Customers and other staff members inside the store gasped in disbelief as they saw how the dead bodies of the two victims get brutally fractured and desolated. Other organs were gone missing especially the heart.
After Philip clicked his tongue, he called Philip with a little bit of worry in his voice. "You should be careful on your way back home. You're living alone, right? Hope you won't be the next," Philip teased and attempted a sardonic smile on him.
"Idiot," Bryle nudged him forcibly in the stomach, "I hope you die," he said in a derisive tone with a serious blank on his face.
"No! Let's die together!" Philip then jokingly said.
Both of them stopped teasing each other when a customer came.
Meanwhile, inside the west forest, there lived a few numbers of surviving werewolves coming from their world. Since their former world, Thorfa, was gradually vanishing owing to the fact that the never-ending war between the demons and themselves, they had no choice but to migrate to the other world---which is the humans'. Even though they resettled with mankind, they still devour them as their prey.
"Where are you going?" asked the werewolf to his fellow with a bit of coldness in his tone. This werewolf breathed in his human form, covering his face with the black hood he wore. As though his face is still unrevealed, the tone in his voice had already said that he's some kind of a muscular, brawny man. They call it a 'man-wolf'.
"I will just roam around and see if he's in this lowly world," answered the other werewolf who also shifted into his human form. Same as the man-wolf earlier, he also wore his black hood in case a human might see him. Sometimes, it's better to hide and don't expose yourself too much, for the world might see who you really are. In addition, he also has his own profound voice, labeling him as a fibrous man-wolf. After taking a deep breath, he then immediately ran away, taking his time to roam and find 'him'.
The other werewolves in their human forms looked at the rushing man-wolf with an annoyed look on their faces, thinking that that guy seemed to be so reckless and ill-mannered.
Some of them sought justice, and some were seeking conflicts---the werewolves it is. So while they're still staying in mankind, they must devour humans to live with power and might. Then again, they see humans as lowly creatures even if they defected to the human world. They fed only to humans since they have the flesh that they ever wanted. They hunt people at night as many as they could since they can't gain superiority and power in the middle of the daylight. And they would also become so weak and useless if they're exposed to sunlight, once they're in their wolf forms. Unless they're disguised in their human forms, they could constantly hunt both day and night.
As for the demons that seemed to be the greatest enemies of the werewolves, they take human souls and send them to their world, Garfin---it is if the soul is powerful enough. The human souls gave strength to demons and can revive the Garfin back to normal. Same as the werewolves, demons also see humans as lowly creatures since they think they're that powerless and harmless.
Again in the present time, in some definite house of a human, the demons seemed to attack the owner of the lodging place. The victim wasn't all alone, he was with his brother who also got victimized by these demons.
"Another one?" smirked the creature with a red eye at the middle of his forehead, with two black horns spiraling on his head. He's a demon.
Demons that lurked in this world have faces somehow alike to human beings. The same thing goes for the werewolves, they also use their faces as their bait to humans.
"Yes, it is," answered the other demon as he sucked up the male's soul.
The color of the soul of this man was white. It means the soul is pure. Purity means prosperity. And if they send this soul to Garfin, the pure soul would become a dreadful and hideous spirit that would breathe into a new life of a demon. To put it differently, the human's pure soul would turn into a vengeful spirit, which gasps a new demon.
After attacking and getting the poor souls of these two brothers, they vanished into thin air as if they're already satisfied with it. But that soul might not be enough for their world to prosper, they need a lot of pure, lovely souls for them to stop hunting.
"Goodbye! Take care, Bryle," said the co-worker, Latina, to Bryle as he was about to go home.
Bryle just didn't respond but at least he smiled at her whilst waving his hand to bid farewell.
On his way back home, he thought about what dinner he should cook, what ingredients were needed, and what style he should prepare. It's already a quarter till six so while it's still not six o'clock yet, he hurried to the nearest convenience store to buy some ingredients.
After buying the things he needed, upon walking on the sidewalk, he heard a loud growl at the corner of the dark portion of the street. Afterward, he hastily hid behind the walls, thinking what it could be. Bryle couldn't clearly see who hurled since the place happened to be so dark. He sensed a shadow in that corner, for this reason, he trembled while trying to glance at the figure he felt.
The sun has already set. The street became nocturnal. The lights were too frail to beam. Poor Bryle's feelings got mixed up that he hesitated on what to do next. The shadow figure he sought may not be any normal being, seeing that he has never seen such a creature like this in his entire life. His heartbeat went crazy back and forth. Bryle jolted in despotic shock as he saw the frightening appearance of a werewolf shifting into a normal man, breathing heavily and puffing continuously like a hungry sturdy man. After discovering what he just saw, he immediately closed his mouth so that the creature wouldn't hear him.
There's no one around the street nor a single house that he could run to. It's too dark and he might die if he moved an inch. He couldn't ask for help nor he could escape. In that dark, gloomy place, all he could do was hide behind the walls as silent as he could. He then again heard for the second time the wild growl of this creature as if it's raging in anger.
What this poor Bryle could do was just tremble in fear behind the walls. The news earlier now seemed to recall in his head, making him overthink and bothered him a lot. What if the one that Philip said to him was true? That he'd be the next one! What if he'll be the next victim?
Few seconds have passed, he then realized the loud growl of the man had stopped. Bryle took off his hand, covering his mouth and tried to calm himself down first. While continually shaking in fear, he tried to glimpse at least on his right to the direction where the growling man was at.
And for some reason, there was no man nor a werewolf that he could find from the distance. Nevertheless, he saw a standing man beside him, clenching in anger and drooling like a hungry monster. The man was so huge that in Bryle's point of view, its shadow became massive, covering his body whole. The man's eyes went glowing in red. Hot steam went out from his mouth as if he's inhaling and releasing some vexation.
His face couldn't be seen properly caused by the weak flickering street light behind him. But for Bryle, he couldn't move and he just froze in fright.
