Iraluq (Yupik for moon), has no gender. Several wolves throughout the story may choose to give male or female pronouns to Iraluq depending on their pack's culture, but most wolves choose no gender. This is because Iraluq is a god and is beyond the need for a gender.

Also the first three children are legends in themselves since they become the first three alphas after Iraluq returns to the sky. (Not sure if their story will be told later so I'll just tell it now) These three, after they died, became different 'stars' in the sky. Any time there is a shooting star, it's the first child, who is said to be racing across the sky. Meteor showers are the spirits of other wolves trying to out run him. The second child (The one with the mountains) is the North Star, since was the largest child and lived on mountains, hence why he's the 'highest' in the sky. The third child is Venus (I know it's actually a planet but it looks like a star from the wolves point of view so go with it) who is the brightest 'star' in the sky, but travels around the night sky, said to be going from forest to forest watching their own descendants.

Each of the three children had their own descendants who eventually 'mingled' with other descendants and had their own children. Because of this, wolves use the three alphas as ways of describing others.

-Wolves who have thick fur or are very well muscled are said to be a wolf of the mountains, or descendants of the Alpha of the Mountains.
-Wolves who are thin, have thin fur, are clever, agile, or are built for speed, are said to be a wolf of the plains, or descendants of the Alpha of the Plains.
-Wolves who are balanced in speed and strength, show bravery, or are excellent trackers, are said to be a wolf of the forest, or descendants of the Alpha of the Forest.

Though just because you go to (for example) the forest, doesn't mean all wolves living there will be classified as forest wolves, but it is more common to find forest wolves there.
