BERNARD'S POV:
It's been two days since we've been sucked inside this gate. The first day we stepped our foot here, we're almost 46 people at all. But every minute, seconds and hours our numbers decreases quickly because of the monsters that we have encountered for the past two days.
I can still remember the faces and the screams of the people who died and slaughtered mercilessly at the hands of high level monsters.
I gritted my teeth and closed my eyes tight. I can't help but to frown my brows and silently thingking. When a warm embrace calmed me.
"We'll survive no matter what." Aliana whispered softly to me, calming me. Relieving my mood from all that had happened to us.
I look at her. Her complexion isn't getting better from the past two days. She's been running without proper rest. Even if she can fight a little to deffend herself from danger, she still can't move recklessly. Thingking of her in such pain and stress making me feel so down. Couldn't do anything but only fight to make us alive.
Damn. I should not look like this in front of her. I should be the one who's comforting her because of her condition right now.
The frown in my forehead disappeared and I smiled tenderly at her and hugged her back.
"Yes. We will. We'll survive." Knowing that our survival rate here are very low, i couldn't risk to tell the truth that we cannot leave this gate alive.
I need to find a way to escape the Horde of monsters guarding the gate. I need them to make sure that they will make out alive from here.
I look at my wife, relaxed from my embrace. I hugged her more tight and kissed her head. Even if my life is the price just to make sure you two live, my death will make you and our son alive.
I can't all face the Monsters here. Their levels are extreme, even just a one goblin is matched with the strength of a three goblins. I can kill some monsters but I could not ensure the safety of my party. It's a miracle that we are still alive today. Out of the 46 people the number dropped to only eight survivors.
I glanced at my companions.
I can see in their eyes the fatigue, hopelessness and anxiety. They can't even close their eyes to sleep. They are afraid that when they close it they won't be able to open again. This scene reminds me of the last raid i had in my last year of being a Hunter. My body was severely damaged due to the raid of my party and encountered the horde of high level Black Dogs in an A rank gate. I lost half of my strength on the other side of my body. And the deaths of my two comrades caused me discouragement and lack of pride as a team leader. I couldn't face the world as a Hunter and it led me to my retirement. Our luck that time was so unfortunate and it was my fault.
In the depths of my thoughts I did not realize that Aliana had fallen asleep in my arms. I laid her down properly and cover her my jacket, then kissed her forehead.
Out of the corner of my eyes I saw Dante approaching. The eldest member of the survivors. His expression was serious and immediately got what his eyes was telling me.
I stood up and approached him.
"We have a problem,"
"I see."
He came closer and speak more silently.
"We are out of stock."
In 48 hours we survived because we had food from the truck that went straight into this gate and Dante was the driver. We also found a temporary hiding place but I knew we were still not safe here. The truck right now was guarded by the horde of monsters whose also guarding the gate, preventing the hunters from outside to enter. Waiting for us to show up. Now that we're running out of stock I don't know where we're going to get food. We tried to eat the meat from the monsters we have killed but those who ate it also lost their lives immediately. Meats have become poisonous to us humans.
"What should we do?"
I'm troubled with his question.
There were only eight of us left. If we can get enough supply for a few days, we can stay here longer. Finding solution to our way out, waiting for the rescue if there is one. I looked down and seriously analyzed our situation, thinking for the best solutions.
Every hours we have spend here, such situations also run through my mind. And now that the problems are here there are only two options I can think of as an answer.
"We only have two options." I said.
I lifted my gaze and looked at him seriously.
"And either way, both have something to lose."
He did not respose and just silently looked down and placed his injured hand to his nape. Even he didn't say to me what's on his mind I can tell what he's thinking.
"I see," He whispered and then laughed. Smilled and tilt his head a bit. A smile in his lips telling that he's ready to battle anytime. His eyes became more serious and sharper.
"Then...I will bet my life for the best plan you have." His smirk made me see that what he said was true.
After i discussed my plan to Dante, we gathered everyone and told them about our situation and the plans.
"We have two choices. And with those two plans there is definitely something to be lost. Our lives depend on this mission." They look each other to what I said.
"Tell us." Elijah.
I remember him, he was the student helped me pushing back the bus up the road. At first I thought he was just like the other kids out there. He acts like excatly the bullies and mean kids. But I was wrong. He is a student--no, he is a real man, a person I can say who has dignity and cared for other people even in dangerous situations. I can see the bright future for him.
"The first plan is for us to get the supply in the truck. We all know the monsters are on guard there and we only have a 10% chance for success. The second is for us to get out of here. Our chance of getting out of here is about 3%. Now, whatever you choose. Our lives are at stake. "
I know that this is not easy to decide quickly. We don't know if either the two options are going to success.
"Then i will vote first. I'll go to the 3%." Hiraya replied.
Hiraya and Elijah attend the same school. She's been so quiet after seeing in action the deaths of others in front of her. For the days I've been monitoring everyone, she's quite calm when the situation got worsen and thinking too deep when she's alone yet her senses are sharp.
"I would rather get out of here than waiting for the monsters find us and get killed. We have been waiting for a long time for the rescue from the outside. The day and hour have already passed and they are still not here. We are not sure if tomorrow the light will still reach us in this place. Or if the rescue are still coming. "
"Right. We've been waiting for too long. There's also a patient we need to take care off. The longer we stay here the high possibility that Aliana give birth here." Giovanni Sat down beside Jerick.
This is Giovanni Henerasyon, the person who look after our health and injuries since he is a student doctor. We were lucky that he survived for a long time and he became our medic in this group. From time to time he also consults my wife about her pregnancy. And one of my worries is that one of these days she will give birth to our child.
"We need to get out of here. This is really dangerous if she gave birth here. The possibility of the mother and baby's health is very low. And normally the rescue will arrive between 5-7 hours, if they asked the US to give a hand clearing this gate it will at least take up to 10 hours or less." Herbert Salusasyon. He is Dave's attendant. He's an E rank hunter who just quit months ago because he cannot level up his rank after years of being a low ranker.
"Or they all dead. wiped out even before they completely stepped their foot in this place." After Jerick said that the horror flowed through our bodies.
He is right.
Recalling the image of that red terrifying big eyes I'm afraid that what he said is basically true. And the hordes of monsters watching the gate aren't just a normal monsters. We were just lucky and we lasted a few days here inside the gate.
As we are discussing about our plan, we stopped talking when we heard a little noise. Picked up our weapons and became alert.
"B-Bernard..." I got distracted by Aliana's voice calling my name and quickly look at her side.
I saw Aliana with her one arm on the ground and the other one was holding her belly. My eyes widened when I saw blood to her dress. I nervously stood up and ran to her. The noise that we're hearing was coming from her. Groaning in pain.
"W-what's happening to you?" My hands was covered in blood when i held her.
I quickly turned to Giovanni who was already beside me. Examining the situation.
"She's giving birth,"
After he said that, he lifted my wife's dress.
"W-wait! What are you doing!?"I asked him and look at him dangerously.
He look at me blankly and took a deep breath.
He patted me and moved his glasses.
"I need to assist her while giving birth."
My whole body was shaking and I didn't know what to do. W-what assist?! What assist!? I feel like I'm going to faint with dizziness and nervousness. And top of that, Aliana's struggling and suffering voice made me more nervous as she gripped my neck tightly and i cannot even breath properly.
Eyes being thrilled, a thumbs up blocked my face.
"This is the doctors' job. So calm down," He said and looks like he's sparkling that he will be going to assist my wife. He was assisted by Herbert for taking some basic supplies we can provide that can help Giovanni perform the process.
"Wait, we should not make any loud noise or monsters might hear us." Hiraya knelt on the ground holding a thick cloth and carefully placed it in my wife's mouth.
I held her hands tight. Looking at her feels like i'm also giving birth to our son. While we're busy here, the others looked around to guard the area. The other one took some herbs we had collected recently to hide the smell of the blood so we would not be noticed by the monsters roaming around in this area. I had no choice but to watch and cry over for my wife's birth process. Within a few hours, a few strands of my hair also fell out. I felt like dying because of my wife lovely embrace.
I was literally Chocked to death
On the other hand, From afar they observe what is happening in that corner, silently giving a birth to an innocent baby while keeping their eyes around.
ELIJAH'S POV:
I feel pity for the fate of the baby. I knew that the baby would not be safe in this hellish place. I don't even know how far their life line is.
It won't survive for too long.
"You think we can still get out off this hell?" I mumbled.
"I don't know," Jerick answered me. I can hear the sympathy in his voice.
"But there's only thing i know," I remained silent, waiting to what he was going to say.
"That baby will be our greatest strength, and so our greatest weakness."
I accepted that with my eyes closed. He's right. That baby was a disaster.
Growl
My eyes narrowed and became alert. From a distance I could see the red pair of eyes. From one it multiplied even more.
"Shit!"
ALIANA'S POV:
My body is weak and my eyes are dimming.
Uwah
Uwah
A baby's cry greeted my hearing. I roamed my tired eyes around and they seemed too little and blurry in my sight.
"Congratsulation!"
W-what?
"Hon, Look! Our baby!"
What are they saying? I cannot hear it clearly. Ah...I'm too tired.
I saw my Husband holding a baby...A baby?
The baby moved and Bernard bend slightly and happily cried.
Right...I gave birth to our child.
"Here...hold him, look at him. This is our baby," I heard him whispered in my ear.
I smiled weakly and my trembling hand reached my son.
"Baby..."
My heavy eyes are closing and i put down my hand.
I want to sleep. I'm tired.
But before i even closed my eyes to sleep, A loud noise filled the whole place.
"GOBLINS!"
