I stood at the bottom of the steps of the bakery, clenching the sides of my skirt in my fist. Pursing my lips, trying not to scream from excitement. So without making any noise I started to swing my skirt and danced down the lit-up market walkway. A tiny squeal finally escaped my lips; as I couldn’t contain it anymore. ‘I’m gonna try to be a knight!’ I thought, twirling around which made my skirt flutter and swirl like a butterfly, and the money pouch fastened to my waist jingle. A chuckle left my lips and brought a lock of loose hair behind my ear. “Well, you seem to be in a good mood.” I turned to face the person who had spoken,
“Ah, yes...” The person glanced down at me from behind a stand of children's toys. They seemed to be a middle-aged lady, her clothes were a bit dirty and had a red handkerchief around her forehead, then quickly spoke up again.
“You seem to have a lot of money there young miss.”
“Uh... well yes, I just got off of work.”
“Wonderful, after working so hard you must be wanting to buy somethin, don’t ya?” She clapped her hands together and tilted her head to the side, while a large grin formed on her face, ear to ear.
“Of course that's the case, well this toy is somethin to spend your money on!” She held in her hand a mini knitted ball the size of my fist.
“Oh uh, I’m saving for the…”
“The entrance test for the school… am I right?”
“Ah yes, you are!”
Her expression darkened and she bit her lip and placed down the toy in her hand on the wooden counter of the stand.
“Well can’t do anythin ‘bout that, now can we, be on your way.” She waved her hand, gesturing to leave and turned around, I felt a bit bad. I was about to reach for my pouch to fish out a copper piece or two for her when… “WHERES MY POUCH!” This caused a startle to the bystanders and stand keepers. ‘Did I drop it while doing all that spinning?! No that can't be it, be stand lady saw my pouch!’ Then from the corner of my eye, I saw a fast-moving shadow; it had something in hand, something… ‘MY POUCH!’ Without a second's hesitation and took a dash towards them and started screaming ‘PICKPOCKET!’’ over and over again, which stirred some fright in the eyes of the onlookers who were witnessing this chase.
