Adrenaline coursed through my veins as sirens wailed inside the soaring vehicle. I closed the window shoot, turning and flicking several switches upward and downward. Glancing up in panic, I noticed that the plane was now spiraling down toward the ground. A grassy field with subtle slopes. I held my breath, pulling a lever above my head and bracing myself for the impact as the far approaching ground grew closer. I ducked my head beneath my arms after I caught one last glimpse of the spinning earth through smoke and grey. I lurched forward, as my head collided against the front of the cockpit. I felt a sharp pain pierce my arm, and a cold sensation flood into the side of my head. Smoke from the plane capsulated the vehicle, clogging my lungs and forcing its way into my body. It was difficult to breathe, and my mind flickered in and out of consciousness. The pain was unbearable. I couldn’t move. I needed to move but I couldn’t. My heart throbbed and my head ached with an overwhelming amount of discomfort.
I squeezed my eyes shut, forcing myself to sit up despite being wedged beneath the cockpit of the plane. I reached up, straining my muscles as I stretched for a latch on the side of the plane. Pulling it upward, a window opened. I flung my overs over the side, wincing in pain. Weakly, I would pull myself up out of the cockpit. I paused, gasping for breath as I was halfway out of the plane. Inhaling sharply, using all of the strength I had left, I pushed myself up and out of the plane. I fell to the ground and rolled onto my back, furrowing my brows. I felt like I was going to vomit. My chest heaved up and down while smoke steamed from the plane and up into the air. I coughed, choking on the grey air. I looked down at my left arm. My sleeve was completely torn and a large piece of glass was wedged in my flesh. I gagged, repulsed by the image.
I blinked slowly, feeling my mind drift. Stay awake! I snapped in my brain. I felt my vision blur. The blue sky faded to a grey, and moments later black. I reached up toward my neck, grasping a necklace under my coat. I pulled it out, grasping it tightly as I fell into a state of unconsciousness.
