The Uninvited Princess

Golden Eyes

Golden Eyes

Apr 14, 2021

Evil spirits didn't usually look so human. But Pranee never heard of a spirit with golden eyes as well.

The sound of bare feet meeting the cold floor broke the silence as the figure stepped off of the windowsill and into the room, slowly approaching her. She couldn't help but be captivated by eyes watching her but the longer she stared, the brighter the gold glow became. Her heart was beating so fast that she thought that she would faint at any moment.

"Who are you and why are you in my tower?"

If this was a spirit, Pranee could tell that it was infuriated for not only trespassing their territory but also disrespecting it without presenting it any gifts or offerings.

"I'm so sorry," she stammered. She couldn't tell if she was shaking or paralyzed as she could only focus on the potential danger in front of her.

"I asked for answers, not an apology." The fierce tone made her flinch slightly. "I'll ask again. Who are you and why are you in my tower?"

"I'm," she couldn't seem to think straight. "P-pranee."

"Okay, Pranee." The person loomed over her and she could only try to move back to delay their final show of wrath. "Could you answer the other question please?"

"I was forced to be here." She said quickly. "It wasn't my decision. The doors are sealed with magic and I can't escape."

There was a sudden halt in movement and Pranee watched anxiously, unsure if she'll be spared.

The furious golden glow dissipated and the person spoke again. "Forced to be in here?"

"Yes..." Her words were faint but the person seemed to hear her clearly.

Suddenly, the person walked briskly past her and was now observing the door. The seal was still there and Pranee could now see there was a glowing purple hue to the door. She didn't know if it was always there or if the person had anything to do with it.

"You didn't place this seal here?" The sudden question startled Pranee.

"I didn't place it for sure."

There was a loud agitated groan and the person kicked the seal lightly, surprising Pranee.

Something flew past Pranee from the window and the person was now standing with bent knees, looking ready to jump at a moment's notice. The flying thing halted in front of the person and it took a moment for Pranee to realize what it was. It was a golden magic staff.

"You may need to stand back for this. I don't know what will happen."

Pranee quickly ran to stand beside the open window, standing as far away from the door as she could. Swiftly, the person jumped and kicked the side of the staff, making it spin wildly. It began to glow with what initially seemed to be a golden hue but as the glow grew larger, Pranee realized that it was actually fire. There was some chanting that Pranee could vaguely recognize as Sanskrit but the rest was lost in the sound of the violent wind the staff was creating. The bookshelf to her left was shaking violently. The books and jars were inching farther and farther away from their place, ready to fall to the ground.

Before the items could, the person leaped into the air and kicked the staff with both legs to slam into the door with force. The door glowed violently purple and the person landed on the floor in a crouch while the staff fell next to them. Pranee stood there in awe and shock, processing what she had just witnessed while the person panted to catch their breath.

"This magic is too foreign for me to deal with. Even if I knew this magic, it's clearly more complex than the average magic user's spell. They really wanted to lock you away." The person gave Pranee an accusatory look. "What exactly did you do for this to happen?"

Pranee looked at the person with her mouth slightly agape before regaining her composure.

"I was accused of being involved with witchcraft."
