It could've been considered a little bit cold for a Spring morning. Yet, there were many people on the streets, waiting for game stores to be opened.
And once it was opened, the chaos began.
Huff huff
The fair skinned, long brown haired girl started running as soon as she got her hands on one of the games and showed her golden ticket at the check out.
The store could be considered close to her home, only 15 mins by running. She opened the door and got inside of the house while it was still pretty early outside. She had the small box in her arms.
She thought her mother still could be sleeping but that was not the case;
"Seth? Is that you?" a female voice called out from inside.
"Yeah mom!" the girl, Seth, replied.
She was young, a 20 year-old university student. She had long, slightly wavy brown hair with lighter brown shades, part of her bangs were dyed powder pink and her eyes were olive green. She had soft face features, was a little taller than average and was quite fit, nothing extreme though.
The daughter stuck out her head from the side of kitchen entrance;
"Whachu doing?"
"Breakfast. I woke up from the noises you caused in the kitchen, late at night."
"Yeah.. I was preparing a sandwich at 2 am for the game line and left, but I finally got it!" she grinned and added cheerfully, "So I'm heading to my room but I won't stay up 'till late~" as she ran out from the kitchen after her victory pose.
The mom snorted but didn't bother to get out of the kitchen, instead called;
"Of course you will. You've waited for 8 hours in the line for that game. BUT, I'm not nagging cause you got it for free, unlike those crazy people who pay almost a fortune for these kind of things. And this will be the FIRST AND LAST time I'm choosing to be proud of your addiction."
"Love ya too mom~!" Seth grinned once more, then went to her room.
She was holding the game in her hands and immediately took her Headset, walked towards her bed.
Knights and Mages Online, a Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game aka VRMMORPG. With the Headset, that stimulates the user's five senses via their brain, players could experience and control their in-game characters with their minds. Like most RPGs, it was implementing a level-based system.
And Seth Kiah was one of the 20.000 Beta Testers in the game's previous Closed Beta.
"Knights and Mages Online, first of its kind as a Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing game. 61 million 8 thousand packages have been sold out just in 3 hours and it was the limit of the game which we don't know why yet.." she heard from the TV downstairs.
She laid down her bed then put on the Headgear.
"KMO, Start!" she commanded.
By drifting in a silky tech-galaxy way, she found herself standing in a white platform. Suddenly a notification popped up saying;
'Do you wish to keep your previous avatar?'
Seth clicked on the neon blue check button. Her previous avatar was similar to her real-self, only with a dark purple hair difference.
After her appearance settings, it was time to select her Class, Branch then Head to the Gene Pool.
'Should I become a Mage or a Knight..?' she thought.
The Mage Class had 2 Branches within as; Healer and Elemental Mage branches.
Unlike the other branches, Healer Branch was the only one that didn't had a form of attack. By calling on their spiritual powers a Healer could restore health to injured allies or summoned creatures and very few skilled ones had the ability to defense by creating shields and barriers.
The Elemental Mage Branch was capable of killing multiple enemies with their long-rage abilities. They could access Water, Earth, Fire and Air elements but they needed to focus on one to master it. All elemental attacks had individual strengths and weaknesses that depended on the user's use of their abilities.
Most simply explanation would be;
Water > Fire > Earth > Wind > Water > Fire...
However they were known to have very low defense skills in battles.
On the other hand, the Knight Class was separated into 3 Branches; Fighter, Ranger and Blade Master.
Fighter Branch was the most popular one in KMO due to having various kinds of weapons choices and being the easiest branch to manage. They were specialized in close-ranged attacks with high damage chances. They were known to have fairly highly defenses and also had good stamina in comparison to other branches such as Healers and Elementals due to actually not having a Mana bar.
Rangers were specialized in using long-ranged attacks. They were meant to support the raid teams by covering their allies' blind spots and inflicting high levels of damage to enemies. They also had the highest stamina among all branches.
And finally, the Blade Masters were highly trained in the art of small weaponry. They were swift and agile, being able to quickly attack their opponents. Their speed was making them hard to catch by members in other branches. Mages had the most disadvantage against this branch due to the cast time of their spells. Some notable Blade Masters could have the 'Stealth' passive-skill which made them very hard to be detected, except for the Healer branch which could use their "Detection" skill.
'I was a Blade Master in the Beta Test.. Hmm.. I probably can find a Mage friend who can heal me during the combats. Then Knight it is~!'
She chose the 'Knight' option then chose her branch as 'Blade Master' once again, then clicked on the Gene Pool.
The Gene Pool was deciding on your 'Rank' randomly. So it was just pure luck.
In KMO there were 6 Ranks you could be sorted into and they were;
N Rank (shortened of No-Rank) which give No Bonus HP & MP, also made up the 55% of population in the Beta Test as the lowest rank in the game.
Seth was thinking the percentages wouldn't change drastically in this version either.
One rank above there was D Rank standing, giving +10% Bonus HP & MP depending on player's current stats and making up 20% of the game population.
Next, C Rank with +20% Bonus HP & MP, making up 15% of the population.
Then B Rank; +40% Bonuses, making up 10% of the population.
A Rank; also known as the 'Demi-Gods' as they were blessed with their +70% Bonuses, making up only 0,01% of the population.
And lastly the 'Gods' of the KMO, S Rank; almost as if they were ascended with their +80% Bonus HP & MP while making up 0,0001% of the game population as the highest Rank.
Seth watched the button as it glowed, showing;
'A Rank'
Yes, A Rank wasn't the best but Seth wasn't that greedy to wanted to be an S Rank. Besides, your strength wouldn't be calculated JUST by your Rank. Levels were also playing a great role on your stats, also your equipments and individual skills which you activate them automatically as you level up or encounter certain situations.
Seth had seen a 30 level C Rank Blade Master once took down a 25 level A Rank Elemental Mage. So nothing was impossible, really.
She then chose her base clothing color as dark aqua green, which came up with golden features and the default dark brown gear, black knee-high socks and tall brown boots.
"Character creation completed!" she commanded to the system when she was also done with setting her Player ID as Sethstiel and the system teleported her to the game world.
When she stepped the Virtual World, her inventory button lightened up, blinking. She clicked and saw there was a gift box in her bag. She clicked the box as well which opened with a 'Congratulations!' message.
"Legendary Items? Cool~" Seth said to herself.
Her present box opened by itself and 3 cards appeared in the air.
The cards started to turn forwards as Seth watched.
They all had something written on them;
Invisibility Cloak x1
Turns the Player invisible but does NOT cloak the sound

Duration: 1 hour
(One-Time use only)
Kami Eyes x1

(Consumable)
Mage Knight Crystal x1
The Player gains a Bonus Branch from the different Class

(Consumable)
(Bound Item)
Seth froze over the 3rd card.
'Did I- Did I just win the Mage Knight Crystal?!'
She consumed the Crystal without wasting a second. With that action, the two branches of the Mage Class appeared in front of her.
'Guess I wouldn't need a Healer friend after all.' she thought, smiling at herself before selecting the branch. While a Mana bar got added right below her Health bar, a notification popped up, written;
'So it would only work if I'm injured somehow.' she thought just before looking around to see the other players who were creating themselves over one and another. Just as one player finished creating his character, they made an eye-contact.
The boy had black hair and black eyes that contrasts with his fair skin. His starter gear base color was black with the default brown gear and boots.
'I know him. He was also a Beta Player. He didn't change his character name like me huh..? Kai.. Should I say H-' but the boy turned his head away and walked pass by Seth, towards the first mob area.
'Uhm.. O-okay then..?'
What was wrong with him anyways? Seth was sure that Kai recognized her as well. What was he being so rude about? Oh, was it because she finished the Beta Test first and won the golden ticket and he was the 2nd?! Bo-hoo! Serves him right!
She was frustrated about his attitude but it was actually a little bit upsetting too, they DID fight together after all when they were in the Beta Game, being in the same guild. Well of course you couldn't call them 'Friends' just because of this.. but still.
'Whatever.'
Seth also started to walk towards the beginners' Mob Area. With her starter pack's little hunting knife and wooden staff, it'd be a little difficult but she was sure that she could handle some human sized ducks and wild boars.
Pros of being a Beta Player was that being already memorized the whole World's map, Mobs, NPCs, Loots of Mobs, Bosses, all of their weaknesses and most importantly, the Glitch Areas.
To Be Continued~
