Akira stared at the dress in the window. He had been trying to decide what to wear for their wedding for a little while now. It indeed was a long engagement long enough that Edward had moved in with Akira and the apartment was almost half and half-filled with Akira and Edward’s things. Edward even had a job in construction. Akira sighed as he started to walk home. He wasn’t sure what the heck he was going to wear to the wedding. On one hand, he really wanted to wear a tux, but everyone he had tried on had just looked so wrong on him.
Granted, Edward constantly was saying how awesome he looked no matter what but Akira didn’t believe him. Especially after Edward, honestly just joked about him wearing a wedding dress. He couldn’t do that, his brother was going to be there. What was he going to think seeing Akira in a dress? Akira sighed and continued to walk back home. He had seen a few dresses that he liked that he oddly really thought he would look good in, but how to bring it up to Edward?
Once he got home, he headed straight for the kitchen and started to make dinner. It was a habit of his now since Edward was always hungry by the time that he got home from his shift at the café. “I’m home!” he called.
Edward came out from the bedroom and shut the door quietly, he had a secret present in there for Akira. He was trying to find the best way to give it to him. They had become a bit mundane in their relationship lately and he wanted to liven things up a bit. “Hey, hun, how was work?” he asked Akira.
Akira smiled and continued working, before stopping for a few seconds to give Edward a kiss. “It was okay, kind of boring, no one interesting came in today. So, we pretty much just had routine work. What about you?”
Edward shrugged, “Same old same old. Get the wall up here, make sure the roof doesn’t cave in there, you know, construction. The boys missed you coming to give me lunch though. They are so jealous of my beautiful girlfriend.” He snickered and kissed Akira’s temple.
“Your what?” he asked.
“My… well, my girlfriend.”
“And why do they think I’m your girlfriend and not your boyfriend?”
“Because they think you’re a woman?” Edward said, backing up from Akira a bit, “And I’ve never really corrected them?”
Akira sighed and shook his head, “Great. So, they think I’m a woman. Maybe I should just get a dress after all,” he mumbled.
“What?” Edward asked when he barely heard the last part.
Akira looked over to Edward, “well, I’ve been thinking…” he started and bit his lip before going back to his cooking. “Never mind, it’s stupid and silly.”
“You’ve been thinking what, Aki?” Edward, touched the man’s lip, gently soothing it. “Stop that, you know I don’t like to see your lip bleed.”
“I can’t help it.”
“It’s a nervous habit, which means you should tell me, so your lip doesn’t bleed,” he said.
Akira frowned, “Fine. I was thinking about wearing a wedding dress instead of a tux because I just don’t look good in the tuxes like you do,” he said as quickly as he possibly could.
Edward looked at Akira “hold that thought for two seconds okay?” he asked and hurried off to the bedroom to retrieve the present he had bought Akira. This was more perfect than he could ever hope. Why not convince Akira by having him try something out for the night, if he liked it then he would simply have him get the wedding dress. He held the box behind his back as he came back into the kitchen. “So, um, I got you something a few weeks ago, and I wasn’t really sure how to do this…” he started, “but since you are really considering wearing a wedding dress… I thought that maybe this would be the perfect scenario to try it and see if you even like the idea.”
“Try it?” Akira asked and set the burner on simmer before looking over to Edward, “what are you hiding behind your back, Edward?” he asked, curious now.
“Don’t yell at me okay? I just got it because I was… well I was wondering if we could try it during sex one time.”
“What does sex have to do with a wedding dress?” he asked.
Edward winced and finally showed Akira the box and set it on the table. “Open it,” he whispered.
Akira glanced at the food for a moment before sighing and nodding. “Okay.” He moved over to the box and opened it slowly, wondering what the hell could be in it. Akira stared at the present inside the box for a moment. It was a dress. A super cute one at that, one that would almost make Akira look like a doll if he were to put it on. “A… dress?” he asked, looking over to Edward, “you want me to dress up like a doll?”
Edward fidgeted “Yeah, it’s this thing, called ‘dollification’ a friend at work is into it and he loaned me the stuff for it. Well, I shouldn’t say loaned, he made the stuff for me. I’ve helped him a couple of times at work, by covering for him and what not and he said that he could help me out with spicing up our sex life a little since I had told him that it had gotten pretty repetitive.”
“You… think our sex is boring?” Akira questioned, “and you told a friend at work?”
Edward winced again, “I- I mean, it’s not boring, it’s still enjoyable and I mean, we still get off and everything, obviously. But I just, there isn’t as much passion as there used to be. If you don’t want to do it, we don’t have to! It’s okay! And I’m sorry I told him, I just, you know, you talk about stuff like that with friends and whatnot, plus he thinks you’re a woman, so it’s not like he really knows what’s going on in the bedroom.”
Akira sighed, “You have got to be kidding me.” He closed his eyes, “that, that isn’t any better. I mean with tell the friend. I’d rather he know I was a man. Well, sort of, I… okay, look, I guess I shouldn’t get mad over you telling your friends, just make sure it stays between friends?” he suggested.
“Of course! He’s too embarrassed by his hobby anyway, it’ll stay between us.” Edward said, throwing his hands up in defense before he realized that Akira didn’t say no “Wait…”
“Yes, Edward. Yes, I will do this dollification thing with you. Just, you’re gonna have to explain it to me, I’ve only ever seen pictures of the thing, never actually seen it done before,” Akira said and moved his hands to touch the dress. It was a very pretty dress and Edward was right, it would solve his problem. If he didn’t like wearing this, then he would most definitely not like wearing a wedding dress.
“Okay! No problem. I’ll walk you through it every step of the way. It looks kind of fun honestly. Though I’m not sure how fun it will be for you, as the doll. You pretty much just sit there and look pretty, like a doll,” he explained, “no moving or making sounds. I’ll do all the rest of the stuff, dress you, place you in the positions, and of course, enjoy you.” He smirked.
Akira glanced over to Edward, a bit of a blush on his cheeks before he nodded, “Yeah, okay. Sounds like it could be fun…” he said and went back to the food, scooping it out of the pan and placing it on their plates. “So… um, when do you want to do it?” he asked. “Also…I really do think we need to have a discussion about what you’re telling your friends at work.”
“Well, uh, I was thinking tonight if you wanted,” Edward said, smiling. He wasn’t so sure if the other wanted to do it so soon, but it was worth asking. After all the other had said yes to the idea of dollification in the first place. He just kind of nodded when Akira mentioned talking about what he said when he was at work. Edward had almost been dreading telling Akira that he wasn’t really correcting his co-workers on their assumptions. He felt bad about it sometimes, but other times he didn’t really care, it wasn’t their business anyway.
Akira rolled his eyes and chuckled, “Yeah, okay.” He took a few bites of his food, pressing some of it around the plate. He wasn’t sure how to bring this up. He knew that he was a bit androgynous-looking and honestly, he kind of liked it, but at the same time he was a man. It’s how he identified, and it felt strange that Edward hadn’t been identifying him that way. “So…um, about what you’ve been saying, or I guess not saying…” he started.
Edward winced a bit when Akira started, “I mean, I don’t see what the huge deal is. You tend to…I don’t know, not really seem to care either way? You wear your hair kinda girly with those clips and your clothes aren’t exactly masculine, it makes sense that they don’t know. Plus, all the stuff you do is girly. Cooking, cleaning, they’ve only ever seen you come to my workplace with lunches. That’s sort of the thing a girlfriend would do, you know?”
Akira frowned “Edward, I get that I don’t do things that are typically classified as boy things but still…I’m a guy, you see that right?”
Edward nodded, “of course, but you see how others see it right?”
“I-“ Akira sighed and thought about how to phrase what he wanted to say, “Edward, I understand that sometimes people are going to mistake me for a girl. I find it annoying but overall I don’t really care, what I’m a bit annoyed by is that you don’t seem to want to identify me as what I am and that kind of hurts,” Akira said, looking down to his food and continuing to push his food around.
Edward looked down as well “I…I guess you’re right, it’s not like I think of you that way, you’re male like I said. I know that, but you’re right in that I should be correcting them. I guess I’m not used to correcting people on something I didn’t think was an issue. But if it’s an issue for you I’ll start correcting them.”
Akira glanced up and gave a small smile, “thanks, it really means a lot to me, Edward.”
Edward beamed and started to dig into the plate of food he was given as Akira did the same. They both ate and talked about the rest of their day honesty having a relaxed evening after their conversation.
