Normally PD's gem can identify which bits of Stevonnie is Steven cos Steven's body was always "automatically logged in" PD's gem (for want of a better term), but when WD removed the gem while in Stevonnie mode, Steven was "logged out" and even with the gem returned and keeping them alive, Steven cannot "log in" again as it cannot reconnect to just Steven since they are Stevonnie now.
