The Girl:
I share a room with this girl, maybe around nine years old.
She will keep me up sometimes,
She rambles on about the monsters in our room.
I try to blow it off as nothing!
But...
I catch myself glancing around nervously.
Every now and then I'll catch a glimpse of these monsters,
What I see...
Sends shivers down my spine.
I ask "How long have these monsters been here!?"
She responds everytime with a sweet smile...
"Since the beginning"

I'm afraid of these monsters,
I ask "When will they go away!?"
She responds everytime with a sweet smile...
"Never"

I try to tell someone, anyone about the monsters,
But they shrug it off.

The monsters...They'll always be with me.
Whispering in my ear, keeping me up at night.

With time and age, I've learned something...
Everyone has these monsters, we ignore them but they get bigger and bigger.

I know mine are terrifying...
They try to grab me as I run,
But they follow.
The girl tells me...In her sweet smile...
"Don't run. They don't have to be scary."
I stop running, my breath harsh as I try to catch it.
I take a deep breath and face these monsters.
I calm down slowly, the monsters get smaller and smaller.

They aren't as scary anymore.
I look at the girl...
In her sweet smile..."It's time to go."
I smile, "I'm ready."
I take the hand of a monster who has always been right beside me.
I take one last look at the girl...
I only see an elderly reflection of myself...
"We lived a long and prosperous life, my old friend."

The monsters we face everyday can be a struggle.
From depression and anxiety, to fears and joys of life.
Everyone's may vary, seek medical help if things become to much, talk to someone.
Life has many joys, You just have to find the small things.

I create poetry...Mostly free verse.
Based on my emotions, things I see, and how others feel.
Some things may be sad or extremely relatable.
