An eclipsed blue sky
White clouds and stars sharing it.
A towering stone arch.
Rolling farmland within a giant satellite dish.
“Ooh~! Just look at Sonic having all the fun,” Rosy complained. To the human and rooster farmers she had just finished moving to what she hoped was a safe distance, there was no fun to be had. Sonic was doing battle with a stone construct that was tearing up their fields, a golem.
Its form was like an arch, massive stone fists serving as the base of the arch. Instead of a neck a single large green gem protruded from the top of the arch opposite the slender body that floated above the ground. It seemed to have little form beyond that, but it had impressive speed due to the way it floated freely above the ground.
“Miss–,” the human farmer started before being stopped by their rooster friend.
“I don’t think she’ll hear us.”
With her face scrunched up in concentration, it was likely that the rooster was right.
~Fighting these golems is nothing new for Sonic. There have been plenty of them since we started running together, though this one is a lot bigger than most of them.
~I don’t really understand what they are or where they come from, but every time Sonic breaks the gem on top of them it releases the prettiest twinkling seed of light. When it touches the ground, it immediately blooms into a massive flower everyone we talk to calls Light Blooms. But it’s a really weird flower, even if it fits its name.
The stalk of a Light Bloom is kind of normal, and almost as tall as me, but the bloom is a like a tulip shape of pure light that I could hide in it’s so big. And it floats above the stem! It’s pretty, but definitely strange!
~Hee-hee! The golem Sonic is fighting right now though is even bigger like I said, but that includes the gem imbedded in it’s top. The gem which–~
“WAH~! Rosy yelped as she dodged a beam of green light that was fired from the gem embedded in the golem. Recovering, she yelled back at the golem. “Watch we’re you’re shooting you big meanie! There are people over here!
“Sorry about that,” Rosy apologized as she turned back towards the farmers and her demeanor become much softer and full of concern. “I didn’t think it could still reach way over here. I’m going to try and get it to look elsewhere while Sonic fights it, and join in the fun! You two though should try to find something to hide behind.”
It was pointless for the farmers to try and say anything, though they still reached out towards Rosy as she started to run towards the golem. Though possessing Sonic speed, she made sure to start slow enough so she could wave at the farmers as she took off. “Bye~!”
A moment later the sound of Rings scattering everywhere rang across the farmlands within the giant satellite dish.
“Amy!” Sonic cried out in surprise as her attempt to jump curled into a ball on top of the golem ended with her being caught by its fist and sent flying. “What are you thinking!”
“Ow~!” Rosy laughed at herself as she sat up and rubbed her head, noticing her dropped Rings. “Whoops!”
Standing up she collected as many as she could while yanking down on an eyelid with a finger and sticking her tongue out at the golem. “I’m still fine you big meanie!”
“AMY!” Sonic yelled to get Rosy’s attention, though far louder than before.
“Eep,” Rosy squeaked apologetically. “Sorry Sonic.”
“What are you thinking?” Sonic asked again finally having Rosy’s attention. Her answer drew an exasperated look on his face.
“Helping distract the golem,” Rosy smiled sheepishly. Her sheepishness however quickly gave way to pleading. “Aw~! Don’t give me that look Sonic! I thought I got the farmers far enough away, but it could still reach us with its lasers! You weren’t being careful enough!”
“So, you’re blaming me now?”
“Of course not!” Rosy defended herself, her cheeks puffing up in response to Sonic’s irritation. “I just wanted to help, and it looked like you were having fun too…”
*Sigh*
“Look Amy,” Sonic tried heavily not to get irritated with her good will. “You have my speed, but you don’t have any real experience fighting with it–”
“Well, what better time to learn than with a golem you haven’t beat yet?”
“Urk,” Sonic froze up a moment, but it was a short moment most would never notice, and he could not help but sigh and shrug again. His normally chill demeanor was fully intact again however. “You think it’s really going to go that easily. I’ve been watching you this whole time you know–”
“Eee~♥” Rosy squealed delighted and cupped her face in her hands. Sonic had to strain not to sigh again, even if his expression gave away his desire to.
“Not like that you rascal,” Sonic clarified and received a playful pout from Rosy in turn. “I mean I’ve been watching you use my speed and try to imitate how I run and move… and frankly, your Spin Attack could use some work. I’ve never once bounced when hitting the ground unless I want to. Watching you have to uncurl so you don’t… Well, I don’t see it as good in a fight.”
“You never know Sonic,” Rosy smiled mischievously. “And it’s fun bouncing, tee-hee~♥”
“Don’t ‘tee-hee’ me,” Sonic attempted to counter, but Rosy’s toothy grin told him she already had something rascally planed.
Splitting off from dodging the golem’s attacks alongside Sonic, Rosy doubled back towards the golem. Waiting for it to throw another punch in her direction rather than fire another beam of green light, Rosy jumped out of the way in a tightly curled ball when it finally did. She then landed and bounced off the golem’s arm.
The outcome of Rosy’s attack was what Sonic was expecting, but only for a moment. After bouncing, Rosy uncurled in the air and landed after performing a pleasing gymnastics twist. Where she landed however was a problem for the golem. Its arms could not reach the gem at the top of its arch-like form. Looking down at the gem, Rosy pressed a finger to her cheek and smiled pleasantly. She had to dodge a moment later however and promptly fell off the golem as the green beam of light thaht fired from the gem shot off into the sky.
“Wah~–! Eep!”
“Honestly, you really are a rascal,” Sonic playful chided Rosy as he caught her and sped away from the golem’s next attack.
“Hee-hee! I distracted it for at least a moment though, right?”
“Yeah, you did, but I doubt it’ll be so reckless now knowing you can get to that gem on top of it even out here.”
“Do you think I can’t help anymore?” Rosy pressed Sonic, suddenly feeling like he was going to chase her out of the fight.
“Actually, I have plan now that just might work better with your help. Heh! Together we might be able to bring this thing down pretty quick!”
~It’s so exciting hearing Sonic say I can help him! I want to get so much better so I’m not a hinderance to him on this journey. And if I can help him, he’ll have time to look at me for more than keeping me out of trouble~♥
~Sonic’s plan for fighting the golem was straightforward to. Using my tendency to bounce when imitating his spin attack, I would bait the golem and dodge its laser beams. While I was doing that, Sonic would attack its body and throw it off balance. Depending on how hard he hit it he’d attack again and hit its gem. If he didn’t hit it hard enough to spin it upside down, I’d jump on it and run up its body to curl into a ball and roll into its gem.
~It wasn’t always that smooth though. Sometimes it would forget about me and try to punch Sonic and I’d have to chase after it and run up its arms again to make it notice me. Sonic didn’t seem to like that, but I have to get better, and it’s kind of fun dodging the golem and having Sonic’s eyes on me. Hee-hee~♥ I really should have tried to be cuter for him! But there isn’t any time, the golem’s gem just shattered!~
Bouncing away from her last impact, Rosy uncurled to avoid bouncing upon hitting the ground. As she did, she watched a stream of twinkling seeds of light spray up into the air. Her eyes sparkled as the scene was reflected in her eyes.
“Uh-oh!”
Sonic took note of Rosy not taking action to avoid the seeds and moved to snag her out of the air, putting her down only once they were safely out from under the umbrella of raining seeds.
“What did I tell you about standing under those?” Sonic asked, obviously irritated by Rosy’s recklessness.
“Sorry,” Rosy apologized absently, still transfixed by the display of falling seeds and blooming flowers of light. “It’s just the Light Blooms are so pretty!”
Another sigh of exasperation was imminent from Sonic, but before he could sigh Rosy’s eyes suddenly lit up. “SO~NI~C~!”
“Wh–? Amy?”
“I did it! I did it, Sonic!”
Taking Sonic’s hands tightly in hers, Rosy started jumping up and down excitedly. “I helped you beat the golem and save the farmers!”
“I guess you did,” Sonic conceded, but he grew a sly smile and offered Rosy an indirect challenge to keep getting better. “Though if you could Spin Dash, you could have definitely done more when you were attacking.
“So~ni~c!” Rosy whined and puffed up her checks at Sonic’s tease and indirect challenge.
~I’m sure Sonic wasn’t just teasing me. It may have been fun helping him beat the golem, but I could have been faster. But just attacking while curling up into a ball is tricky enough. Rolling in place to build up speed… Hee-hee! That will take a bit of practice. But I’m up to it! Mastering that will make it even easier to keep up with Sonic and spend all the time in the world together with him~♥~
