“Mana, also known as the universal energy. It is a still unexplainable concept, how it works. It follows the scientific laws to a certain extent, but also completely ignores it, even bends it. There are theories that it is an energy from a much higher dimension which is why it can ignore many laws. It will naturally empower those who live surrounded by it. But that is just physically and mentally, it does not mean they can use mana. Over the course of history, many ways to control mana were researched and made. Circles, runes, mana cores, crests and so on
“The most efficient way is mana core, these days, every species evolved to have a mana core. Crest and runes depend too much on physical writings and markings, while being unable to create large scale magic spells and lacking severely in speed and intensity. Circles have too many ‘walls’ to add another circle. It is the second most efficient, aside from that. But it limits the amount of high tier magic spells that can be used simultaneously or rapidly. It also can’t store mana within the body for long periods of time making it easy to detect when you are constantly absorbing and releasing mana
“Mana cores, do not face most of these problems or not as severely. It can easily store large amounts of mana for as long as needed, and with the mana channels, you can send mana efficiently to specific places in your body and absorb atmospheric mana easier and faster. The important thing for mana cores is, the size and purity. Mana in itself is dirty, mixed in with many other elements and making it harder to control your mana. The purer the mana core, the better and more mana you control and use. Now summarize everything I said”
Lifa frowned, she didn’t get anything and just vaguely remembered what Knavnos said. Seeing this, Knavnos inwardly sighed, realizing just how long he would have to tutor her.
“Alright, to put simply, there are many ways to manipulate mana, but the mana core and mana channel is the most efficient. Besides that, mana is a universal energy capable of replacing all other energy forms.”
He waited, making sure Lifa understood it, after seeing her facial expression wasn’t confused he then started to explain the basics of magic.
While Lifa felt her brain had melted several times, it wasn’t as bad as when she read All of history in one book. To sum up what she learned. Mana existed everywhere, and many of the species inherently had mana cores, albeit small and unusable. It is through meditation, talent and effort that the core is broadened and purified, making it able to store mana. Mana channels don’t exist, it is by forcibly moving mana from the atmosphere to the body and also from within the body that there are ‘pathways’ which naturally attract more mana, and then by refining it over and over, eventually the mana only moves using those ‘pathways’ and become mana channels. This grants very high control over the flow of mana within the body and allows faster absorption of the ambient mana.
Lifa understood it as secondary blood veins for mana.
Then, magic. It is using mana to bring forth a miracle. Mana can have attributes, 10 main attributes and uncounted sub attributes. By taking the impure ambient mana and purifying it to attributeless mana in the mana core, you can freely change the attribute. However, mages mostly are best at only one attribute and don’t know how to convert it to a different attribute. There are rare cases of non specialized mages that use a wide variety of attributes but they can’t bring forth high tier magic spells. The 10 main attributes are.
Enchant, Heal, Transmute, Earth, Air, Water, Fire, Dark, Light, Soul.
The mana attribute of Enchant obviously focuses on enhancing certain aspects. It is also ranked as one of the weakest attributes with no high tier spells. But it is in no way to be underestimated. Knavnos had even taken the time to tell a story of a Mage who could only use Enchant attributed magic. He devoted his entire life to it and eventually reached the realm of an Absolute. Single handedly he conquered entire kingdoms. Merely through extreme enhancements on strength, agility, health, regeneration. He was even on par with the gods.
Heal, second weakest attribute, Knavnos personally didn’t know how it was even called an attribute, but mana undoubtedly had an attribute which perfectly fit the word Heal. It was almost tailor made for healers, priests and clerics.
Transmute, often called Alchemy, while the magic itself is simplistic, the amount of use and complexity with combinations made it so that if one mastered it, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration you can attain the ‘Status’ of a god.
Earth, Air, Water, Fire are called the Elemental attributes which were also the most known and usable attribute. Around 98% of Mages could only use the Elemental attribute(s).
Dark and Light, or as some called it, Demonic and Holy. Dark magic involved cursus, demonifications etc while Light involved blesses, buffs and also healing.
Soul wasn’t really known, a person who could use the Soul attribute was so rare that only one in once a few millennia appeared. However due to the ridiculous abundance of this attribute in the ambient mana, it was eventually categorized as a main attribute.
The ambient mana, always has an attribute and is filled with impurities, other energies that are not mana. Some peak mages who had excellent sensitivity to mana could use their attributed mana in the ambient mana directly without needing to absorb it, purify it then eject it to form a magic spell. Other than that, even if it has attributes which you have mastered, it is not recommended to use the ambient mana directly for magic spells.
This was all Lifa learned in one week, much more detailed of course, but what was discouraging her the most was she hasn’t even begun with any practical lessons in using magic spells.
Far away, across multiple dimensional barriers was a blue planet, a formerly blue planet at least.
-Casualties, 5,129 Valkyries. 341,031 Civilians. 1,042 Missing. The new Yaju type are strange.
“How’s the data collection?”
-First appearance 47 minutes and 12 seconds ago, Gate was instant type but CE pulses were different from previous Gates, no lightning effect was recorded. Gate has a slight gravitational pull. Yaju type: amoeba. Characteristics: no initial color and has a fluid body. Can change structure and form bones, organs and skin tissue. No ‘core’ or central nerve system detected. Evaluation: CE rank between C-S, highly adaptive species that can show combat prowess a few ranks higher than their own. Everything about them is different from the previous Yaju and the current database is insufficient to make comparisons and simulations.
Desiderius sat down, pondering. It didn’t take long before he reached a conclusion.
“A different dimension interfered, how troublesome.”
He tapped two screens, one showing all CE points across a wide map of sector Delta. The other was changed from a satellite view of the sector to the profile of Lifael Igurdis.
Many things were changed, almost all her information was wiped clean and replaced with a few sentences.
Name: Lifael Igurdis. Age: 14 Talent: N/A
Squad: N/A
Number of Sector Zones and Gates liberated: N/A
Remarks: N/A
Status: Missing
Note:
High-treason, should be executed on sight.
Special authorization level note:
‘Vessel’ of a ‘God’. No CE reaction and presumed talentless with no Esper ability.
Last recorded threat level: MID 4. Estimated threat level: HIGH 2. Associated with humanoid Yaju: Knavnos. Unknown association: Aurofium. Presumed to be the ‘God’
Desiderius edited one part: Estimated threat level: EVO 1.
Satisfied, he moved his attention to the other panels, the main screen showing the CE signatures. On the hundreds of others were moving viewpoints(camera on Valkyries), death and injured count, as well as the profiles of the deceased, the status of many Valkyries, position, Squad etc.
Turning on his microphone and connecting to the communication channels, he grinned.
“It’s showtime”
Meanwhile Lifa was still busy with the theoretic classes on mana. While new, it was pretty boring to be lectured for hours without breaks.
