Yourny high school, also known as the best high school in the city. While the city was not very big, it was made famous because of the school and the 9-Point Hunting Team.
And with technology not advanced enough to breed demonic beasts, a city near the edge of civilization attracted magicians and other hunters. Because of the amount of non-magic using hunters in the city, physical combat was also very popular. With increased amounts of beast gear and weapons, the number of hunters that were not magicians increased.
High schools often have expeditions to hunt beasts, and the high schools are also the ones that handle the hunted beasts. Each school has a beast dissection corps that is assigned this job after every hunt. They have to take the usable parts of the beast and use the rest to power the school. The corps is currently led by the 12th grade teacher Mr. Yeung, and 11th grade student Mattias Woolson.
There are seemingly infinite types of demonic beasts, so members of the corps have to be extremely skilled, a deep understanding of the anatomy of demonic beasts, and exceptional blacksmithing skills.
Brennan decided to check out the corps. Beast dissection was the class he was looking forward to the most, but since school ended early he would do this first.
He went to one of the buildings near the auditorium labeled "Dissection Lab." Things related to beast dissection were all located here. It was a pretty big and tall building, with a wide door next to the human entry one. Brennan had seen a similar door in Jack's workshop, where larger beast corpses would be transported.
He opened the door and walked inside, and was greeted with the familiar scent of demonic beasts. There were various sized desks lined up in rows, with about 75 total desks. Some were big enough for multiple grown men to lie across, while others were the sizes of normal desks.
There was a giant wall of drawers filled to the brim with different types of material, from fangs to scales. The sheer amount of absolutely everything shocked Brennan, for he had never seen so many precious resources in one place. Connected to the gigantic room was several rooms filled with blacksmithing tools. Each room had a set of hammers, anvils, pliers, and such. There were also a bunch of other rooms with different things.
Brennan greeted Mr. Yeung and told him he was a 9th grade student here to sign up. His entry test was to make something out of a basic beast corpse, but Brennan decided to talk to some of the older students first.
Seeing everyone else was eating lunch at some tables in the corner of the room, Brennan decided to take out his lunch and join them.
"Hello, I just signed up for the corps. How are you all doing?"
"Oh, hi there. I'm good thank you. Do you have any past experience?"
"Yeah I worked at a shop ever since I was little."
"That's great! We can always use more help."
As Brennan talked with the others, he took out his lunch and started eating. A wonderful fragrance started flowing from his blue lunch box. Everyone stopped eating their lunch and looked at Brennan's lunch box, wondering what in the world could cause such an addicting smell.
Brennan then took out a fork and started eating. There was a mixture of standard vegetables like lettuce, and Silver-Horned Bull steak, over rice. It was seared carefully with garlic and rosemary, and seasoned with salt and pepper.
Everyone stared at Brennan, hoping for a piece of his food. They were all dedicated to their work, and did not have a good cook. If Brennan was the one who made his meal they would have gained a massive asset for the entire corps.
"Brennan, did you make that meal?"
"Yeah?"
"Mr Yeung! We have a cook!" My Yeung looked over with a surprised look, and gave a thumbs up.
"Ok, you can join the corps. No need for a test."
"But you will cook for us, right?"
"Oh... sure, if you don't have a good cook" Brennan continued eating his steak with his rice and veggies. He had made extra today, so feeling bad for the drooling blacksmiths, Brennan gave them all a piece each. Unfortunately this only fueled their hunger for the perfectly cooked meat.
After getting a tour from the members and getting to know some of them, Brennan decided to start on his first project. He found a light blue and very cold room filled with dead beasts. He picked up a Crying Rodent and set it down on a medium-sized desk. The rodent was about 1 and a half feet long, and had faint blue, gray skin.
He then found a shelf with different knives and picked up a skinning knife and started skinning the rodent. He had always used tools from the shop and never had his own set of knives. After removing the hide and front teeth from the rodent, he threw the rest of the body away. Since the meat of Crying Rodents was not edible, and they were not strong enough to be processed into water, they were usually discarded. He put the hide in a labelled bin, and looked at the 2 front teeth. The teeth were very big and thick, each about the size of a fist.
Brennan went to a blacksmithing room and started to cut the teeth. He put one tooth aside and cut the other tooth into 3 pieces. After a tedious process of carving and sanding, he finished refining the 3 pieces of teeth and created 3 blades. He attached the 3 blades to a steel gauntlet he found in a bin of free use items.
When he finally finished, he looked at a clock and found it was already 5 o'clock. There were only a few people left, so Brennan packed up his things and left for the day. He made sure to wrap his finished bladed gauntlet carefully and got ready to officially meet his roommates.
