The girl looked awkwardly at him. "Uhhh ok. I think I'm just gonna get to class," and she left.
The end of the school day came and Ron was not very excited to be spending his evening in Math instead of going to practice with all of his other friends.
He entered the class.
Mr. Strall was writing on the board. "Ya'll re-doing the quiz. You're gonna be here until you get a score that says 90% or higher."
Nighty percent or higher??? Ron thought. My average score is 60!
Ron knew he was going to be here for a long time. He sighed. Mr. Strall handed all the students their tests. Ron looked at it. But something was wrong. This test wasn't the same as the other one. This one was about algebra!
(1) Solve (1/3) (x + y −5) = y − z = 2x −11 = 9−(x +2z)
Ron was furious! He couldn't believe it!
"What?!" Ron yelled loudly. The whole class heard him, including Mr. Strall, who didn't take it very well.
"What is the problem, Mr. Harbour?" said Mr. Strall.
Ron stood up and held the paper in hand. "You gave us a different test! The test we took in the morning was about probability! This one is on algebra!"
"Is that a problem?" Mr. Strall asked.
"Yes! You should tell us beforehand that you were going to change the questions!"
Mr. Strall started turning a very dark red. "IT'S A POP QUIZ FOR A REASON, YOU IDIOT!" he exclaimed.
Ron took this in and realized no teacher ever called their students an idiot. But Ron didn't care much. He continued to state his argument. He looked around him and all the students put their thumbs up. But when Mr. Strall looked at them, they sat up straight and went back to work.
Ron continued. "Still, I think it's unfair you change the topic." Ron stopped. He could tell this conversation is over. Besides, Ron had no other arguments and Mr. Strall looked even redder.
"YOU. ARE. STAYING. TILL. 8. TODAY." He said. "THE REST OF YOU GET OUT."
All the students (except for Ron) quickly scattered. They gave Ron pats on the back and some even said "Awesome man." But still. It wasn't fair. Just for stating his opinion, he had to stay till 8:00 pm!
Is that even legal?? Ron thought.
But Ron was not going to tolerate it, even if it wasn't. 2 hours passed and Mr. Strall had told him he had to write 100 pages of "I will not give my opinion." Which Ron thought was dumb.
8:00 came soon and Ron was excited to go home. Mr. Strall didn't even tell him to leave. So Ron dismissed himself. He packed his bag, put his 100-page detention papers on Mr. Strall's desk, and walked out the door. When he got outside, he could see it was already dark. Not too dark, which was good because Ron could see his way home.
Just then, he heard something. It sounded like a hockey puck being shot at a wall. It sounded hard. Whoever was shooting must be really good.
