The shaman, the girl, and a few other people from the village left that same day, the old lady knew she had to take that girl to the central village the fastest that she could. After a few days they arrived at the central village, everyone was surprised because of the child, she still had her long hair. She immediately knew that was the reason they were looking at her, but she had much more going on in her head, all those days of walking her trip companions looked frightened, and she didn’t know why. 

Since she told the shaman her name everything started going really fast, just a few days ago she was in the jungle, and now she was so far away in a place she had never seen before with a lot more people than she had  never met. As they were walking through the central village she immediately noticed the huge Ahuehuete tree which made her gasp, the tree was at the end of the long central road, and they were walking right to it.

They walked up the few stairs and were at the entrance of the Ahuehuete, anyone could enter to the main floor, but the shaman approached one of the men that worked there. She tapped him and told him to get close as she whispered in his ear, the men looked surprised, he turned to see the child and left in a hurry going up the stairs, which only the chiefs’ family and employees of the house could go. 

 Mictlantecuhtli followed the men with her eyes and she just kept looking up, admiring the whole tree and how she could see a bit of the sky in between the top branches. She walked a bit more while looking up and twirling slowly, a loud thud sound made her stop and she looked at the stairs again, two men came running down. They looked different from everyone else, they had a peculiar glow that didn’t come from their runes, they came down the stairs fast and approached Mictlantecuhtli, as they crouched down and grabbed both of her arms, almost squeezing her. “What’s your name?!” the man with red eyes asked as he was kneeling in front of her looking right into her eyes “Tell us!” The other men with caramel skin said just a second later “What…” the girl was just surprised, she looked at the shaman, and she just nodded “You name! Tell us your name!” the red eyed said, squeezing her arms a little more, not enough to hurt.

“Mictlantecuhtli” she said in a low voice that only the two men in front of her could hear. More people started to gather in the main floor, from people that worked in the house to outsiders that heard murmurings “How old are you?” the golden skin men asked “seven…” the two men looked at each other, Mictlantecuhtli didn’t understand what was happening, the murmuring of the people was getting louder, and she was just hyperventilating from fear; the sky started to get dark and cloudy, thunders could be heard in the distance and the flowers surrounding the tree started to die, everyone started to panic, scream and run for safety, Mictlantecuhtli was breathing heavily, and she crouched down covering her ears with her hands, as tears started to flow in her face, rain started pouring, “Papa papa!” other kids started coming down the stairs. Mictlantecuhtli just looked up as the red eyed men placed his hand on his head, and somehow it made her calm down, enough to pass out in that same spot. 

They say that after a storm a rainbow comes, that was the first thing Mictlantecuhtli saw as she opened her eyes, a gorgeous rainbow, but as her eyes started focusing on her surroundings she realized it was a girl. She jumped and sat down “You shouldn’t stand that fast” the girl said worried “I bet that’s nothing for her” another voice added, it was a boy laughing, he was a little smaller than the first girl “She made a mess, don’t laugh about it” a second girl said, she looked Mictlantecuhtli age but with a firm expression “Enough, you’re scaring her” the first girl approached the bed where Mictlantecuhtli was “my name is Chuychú you can call me Chu” she continued with a smile in her face “I’m Camaxtli” the boy said sitting at the edge of the bed. The two of them looked at the other girl that was reluctant to say anything “and she’s Somé, I would like to say that her attitude gets better with time but I would be lying” the boy said making fun of the other girl “Whatever, I’m calling papa and dad they wanted to know when she woke up” Somé said as she opened the door closing it behind her.

“What’s your name?” Chu asked the still stunned girl in the bed, she just looked at both of them “I’m…” she said in a really low voice “Come on you made the heavens fall, but you speak that low?”  Camaxtli with a playful tone, making Chu let out a little laugh, “I’m Mictlantecuhtli” the girl said a little louder “well that’s a long one” Camaxtli said crossing his arms “what about Mictlan?” he continued “It’s much shorter” “Camaxtli, you know what that means” Chu said with a firm tone. “What? It’s nothing bad, what’s life without death and death without life?” “Exactly” another voice said, coming from the door of the room opening, it was the red eyed men with the caramel skin men walking right behind him “See? Even dad agrees” the boy said standing up and giving the men a hug “All right kids we have to talk to her, could you please leave for a while?” the other men said.

Chu and Camaxtli soon left the room waving goodbye to the girl in the bed, the red eyed men entered the room further and Mictlantecuhtli just crouched more in the bed. He grabbed a chair and put it right besides the bed “I’m sorry for before, you must have been scared” he broke the silence the kids left behind, the girl nodded “But where were you? What took you so long? Why were you there?” the other men started asking abruptly while he approached the bed, the girl just opened her eyes and started breathing heavily, the red eyed men took the other men hand to calm him down and said “It’s ok you don't’ have to be scared, it’s just, Mictlantecuhtli we have been waiting for you for a long time” the girl just looked puzzled “you were waiting for me?” she asked, and they nodded “why…?” “Because you’re our daughter” the caramel skin men said. The girl just gasped, and a silence took the room as the three of them started to have tears in their eyes. “We say all this, and you don’t even know our names” the red eyed men said as he cleaned his eyes “my name is Quetzalcoatl, and I’m one of the chiefs of the tribes of Tlali” “And I’m Jacob, the other chief of the tribes” “We’re going to be a family now”.

After the arrival of Mictlantecuhtli to the central village the tribes finally understood that seven years ago when the calamity struck Tlali, it wasn’t because the gods were angry at them but because she was just born. Everyone respected her as one of the gods’ reincarnates and accepted her being in the chiefs’ family but just as much respect the people had for her, they felt the same amount and even more fear towards her existence. Every strong feeling that Mictlantecuhtli had it was reflected in the weather and even sometimes the flowers and small animals died if she lost control; so she had to control herself, to shut it in, to hide. As the years passed the only person that truly knew Mictlan back and forth was her older brother Camaxtli but when he became 17 he left and thus left her with no one to talk to anymore. With fear of hurting her family and people, she always showed a laid back and funny personality, but swallowed everything else. 

Eight years have passed since, with no calamity and peace in Tlali, it was like any other night in central village, only the sound of nature could be heard, everything was dark with the clouds covering the moon light and only small torches illuminating the central road towards the Ahuehuete, a shadow leaves from the back of the tree, running through the back of the houses of the village. Reaching the end of the village the shadow stopped right in front of the entrance of the unreachable jungle. It’s a prohibited part of the village not because it’s dangerous but because a lot of mythical creatures live there and out of respect the people give them their space. 

The shadow entered the jungle running, hitting the leaves with its body waking some birds along the way that flew away, it slowed down as it reached a cliff. There was a sound of a branch cracking and the shadow looked behind. Two glowing eyes appeared from the darkness of the jungle “I told you to stay away” the voice came from the jungle as a beast jumped out attacking the shadow.
