Madam Rose left me in the cellar to read up on everything, while she went to get a girl, she said her name was Arva. Apparently has been helping Madam Rose with all her witchy things, along the lines of getting her supplies when it was too risky for herself to do so.
Madam Rose said we would need Arva’s help because not only is she a strong woman but a good friend. She would be able to help me recover after her ritual. She called it the bringing of Chaos. Yeah cause that's not over dramatic and scary. Everytime Madam Rose mentions her past experience with it, she seems horrified. What have I gotten myself into? I tried finding more about this ‘Bringing of Chaos but there are no books here on it. It's almost as if it doesn’t exist here.
I’m just about to continue my search for books when Madam Rose and a younger woman climb down to the cellar.
“ Evera, This is Arva. She will be helping us but most of all you, I suggest you get well acquainted.” She says before grabbing some salts, herbs and candles anlong with multiple needles.
“ Don’t worry, while I may not be a witch I’ve seen this before, you are strong and you will be ok.” An Angelic Voice came from my side, I turned to see Arva looking at me with a soft smile gracing her pink lips.
“ We are ready, it's time to start.” Madam Rose said, turning to us. “ Evera I need you to strip down. Don't Be shy, come along. The sooner we get this done the easier it will be better, We don't know when that witcher will be back.” Madam Rose started looking towards the both of us. As instructed I strip down from all my cloth, she points for me to lay down on the table top. I do so and they begin their work.
Pain. That is all I could feel, the feeling of snakes moving and ripping their way in and out of my flesh, needles poking in my eyes reaching my brain, my fingernails lifting up, burning flames dancing along my skin. This was all I could feel, the pain so escrustating I couldn't even let out a scream. Then came darkness.
I woke up later in the Cellar blood covering the grounds. I try to stand up and walk but I fall as I do so, I can feel power surging through my veins from my heart as if someone manually opened gates inside of me.
“ Evera!” Acclaimed the same angelic voice I heard from before Arva.
“ What happened?” I asked my voice hoarse.
“ Luckily you passed out, we were able to finish everything but by then people had started returning so we had to leave you in here.” She Told me.
“ How long?”
“ About two days.” What?
“ I need to get up”
“You need to rest, Evera.”
“ What about Madam Rose, Or cleaning myself.” I ask whilst gesturing to my filth.
“ Ok no one is here yet, but we have to hurry. I'll help you bathe and get you a room upstairs.” She said while pulling me up. Wow she was incredibly strong. I didn’t even notice before how in shape she really was, not like most other women you would see around her but similar to me and Madam Rose’s bodies, as if she had been training in her lifetime as well. Once we got upstairs she sat me in the corner of the bathing room as she ran me a bath.
“ Ok here we go.” She said lifting me up and setting me in the warm water that seemed to act like a cure all for my sore muscles.
“ I’m going to get your bed together and bring you back some fresh clothes, specifically a sleeping gown. You still need your rest, Evera.”
“ You're right, thank you Arva.” I say as she sends a smile my way before leaving me in peace. After getting me all situated and rested Madam Rose came back hours late to visit, saying that the Witcher left on work but not before saying that he would be back to kill her and take me away from her reach. She told me we would have six months. During these times I read every book cover to cover and learned every ingredient but about five months in I still had trouble with control. Enhanced senses, sight, smell, hearing. That wasn’t the problem. The problem was Chaos.
“ Learn to control it, it's your power Evera!” Snapped Madam Rose.
“ You told me that Chaos was power that could not be controlled, so how can I control what is uncontrollable?” I snapped.
“ You're right, you are.” She stated.
“ What?”
“ You and your power are the same thing, you are uncontrollable, so what would cause you to break free?” She asked me, I started thinking about everything that has happened, all my sadness, my anger, I pictured the one thing I thought that would relate to my pain. In the storm, I look at my reflection in the mirror and see my eye illuminating a magnificent white, then outside a storm formed out of nowhere, raining started pouring and pounding down on the earth below, lightning struck the trees that stood too tall and thunder sounded like drums in the howling wind.
“ Storm, that is your strength, the uncontrollable element, Is you.” Madam Rose says from behind me.
“ Picture where you want the lightning to strike, how hard you want the rain to hit the ground, how fast the winds blow,it is your power to embrace it.”
I looked at the dock, an older boat that was never used, I wanted it gone. Lightning struck the boat leaving nothing behind, the rain became bullets and the wind swords of my will. And then the storm disappeared. And from that moment on, I have been in control.
The cathouse was full today, everyone laughing and talking about themselves. Madam Rose has been on edge lately so she has been staying in her study. Then Arva would come over once in a while to check up on me, but I secretly just believe she likes hanging out with me. She’s a good friend and oftentimes reminds me of Niklaus. She loves sewing and has even made me new close. She’s one of the closest people I have to me at this point in time. I’m snapped out of my trance when a familiar face catches my eyes. The witcher.
“ Hello Witcher, haven’t seen you in quite some time. What can I get for you.” I ask him to keep my barkeep persona about me.
“ Where is the witch Rose?” He said his face and tone was cold.
“ I’m sorry Column but there are no witches here. YOur mistaken.” I say softly, lifting my head with a tilt to look up at him. His eyes soften for a moment before returning to a hard look.
“ Oh really no witches, Then why does everyone in town believe Rose is a witch?” He asks me smuggly.
“ Why do men believe a woman cannot own her own business without a man's help nor approval? WHy is it looked down upon to be a woman with confidence? Because you men get jealous that we wear success so much better.” I pause, turning my eyes into a sharp glare making him back up. “ So to answer your question everyone believes that Madam Rose is a witch because for them it's easier to accept that a woman can hold a spot of power without a man.” I finish my voice dripping with venom and I go to clean another beer mug.
“ Well, while your answer is just. I will have to speak with Rose to see if what you really say is true. And if I have to put her down.” He says, looking down at me softly. I let out a sigh,
“ Fine I’ll go let her know but you will have to wait to meet with her when we close.” I say and he nods, As i’m about to reach the stairs he speaks up.
“ Please know that If I do have to slay Madam Rose, you are welcome to come with me. You won’t have to be alone.” He says to me ever so gently, not in tones I have ever heard him use before and not ones you would expect to come from a man like this. I was shocked to say the least.
“ Evera.” I say
“ Huh?” he questioned.
“ My name is Evera, I know your only fair, you finally get to know mine.” I say as I start my way up the stairs. If i were any normal human i wouldn’t have been able to hear him mutter my name under his breath, and i don’t know why but the way he said it made me happy?
I walked into Madam Rose’s office to see her and Arva working on something at her desk.
“ MAdam Rose, Arva. The witcher is back, he is downstairs now and has requested to speak with you.” I say and Madam Rose both look up to me with wide eyes.
“ Tell him I will meet with him after closing, you and Arva stay here, if anything happens you run. Got it.” She looks at me sternly and I nod. I start my way down the stairs and behind me I can hear Madam Rose let out a sob.
“ How can I tell her Arva?” i hear her say but soon the noise of the bar drowns out the rest of the conversation. I wonder what she meant by that? I see Column still at the bar now sitting in a seat. Looks like he’s gonna be here for a while.
“ She said she will meet with you after closing.” I state and pull out a mug from under the counter too.
“ Will you be here?” Why would he ask me that?
“ No, what happens between you and Madam Rose will be between you and her. I’ll be at home.” I state then passing him the mug full of beer.
“ Ahh I see. Where do you live?” He asked me curiously.
“ I don’t go giving my address out to strangers. There’s creeps around these parts, you know.” I say sending him a smile.
“ Oh yeah yo one of them?” He asks, smirking as he takes a sip of the beverage.
“ Ahh see you say me, but you are the one who looks at it.” I say letting out a laugh.
“ Your laugh is beautiful.” He says and I stop staring at him in shock. The only person who has ever told me that was James.he let out a chuckle.
“ What Knife-Tongued woman is not used to flattery?” He asks in laughing tones.
“ Only ever by one man.” I answered by refilling his mug.
“ Really? What happened.” He asked if his cheeks were now rosy from the alcohol.
“ He left.” I will answer shortly.
“ I-I wou-uld n-veer lev ya.” He answers very slurred before his head slumps down on the bar top. Business started to die down and soon everyone was gone. Madam rose and Arva walked downstairs just as I finished locking up.
“ Whatever happened to the witcher?” Arva asks, shocked to see him in this state.
“ I got him drunk” I say with a shrug of my shoulders and Madam Rose laughs. Arva walks outside and comes back with a barrel of water. Puts it behind her head and dumps it onto the witcher, who shoots up in fright but calms down when looking at what happened.
“ Witcher Column, it's not profecina nor appropriate for you to fall asleep at my bars.” Madanm Rose is spooky looking at the witcher as he moves his hair from his face.
“ I apologize, I must have had more than I intended.” He said while shooting me a glare only to find me smiling innocently.
“ Arva, Evera upstairs, don’t come down till me and the witcher are done with business.” Madam rose spoke and we both nod leaving the two alone.
Later we hear crashing and yelling from downstairs, Me and Arva rush down there to see Column and Madam Rose fighting. He knew she was the witch.
“ GIRLS RUN!” Madam Rose yells, losing focus of the fight. That fault left Column an opening to send her flying into the tables. She lets out a shriek and Arva tackles Column to the ground. She took the upperhand. I rush to MAdam Rose’s side only to find splinters of the wood piercing her stomach. She was dying. I dropped to the floor and helped her in my arms.
“ Everythings gonna be alright. Everythings gonna be ok.” I started repeating, I don't know if it was for me or for her but I just continued to say it.
“ I’m so sorry Corneila. I should have been there for you.” She speaks up to me.
“ Wha-at?” I ask through my tears.
“ I shouldn’t have left you with your Father.” SHe says barely audible over the sounds of Column and Arva fighting in the background.
“ M-om?” I stuttered.
“ Y-yeah sweetie i-its m-me.” My mother gasps out, her face now slowly draining of color as my sobs increase. I can't lose her not again , not when I'm just getting her back.
“ Just know my only regret is leaving you.” She says quietly as the air deflates from her chest and her eyes turn murky and lifeless.
