I am now four and half years into my new life. You might think that since i've had magic since I've been born that i'd be an all powerful mage by now, but you'd be wrong. Life hasn't been easy for me in the past few years. My father died shortly after I turned two from what appeared to be pneumonia. That made my mother's life so much harder. Dealing with a delinquent, who now fifteen, and a toddler. The stress she's enduring is massive.
The magical aspect of my life is still in progress. After my father passed, I had a breakthrough with the purple lines that were branched out everywhere I look. One night, when everyone was asleep, I formed as many connections as I could to whatever purple lines I could reach. Then, when I was near giving up, a large flash of information coursed into my mind. It was incredible, like being drowned in a well of knowledge. I realized that all of those other threads were just steps leading to this one.
Going through the information I had absorbed from the thread, I had gained additional understanding to how it is Im supposed to go about increasing my magical power. Every thread I see is just a maze-like pathway leading me to more knowledge. Every time I collect all of the knowledge the threads dissapear, but I gain an ability of some sort. Since I discovered this way to build my strength, I have gained two abilities... or spells? Im not sure what the proper terms are for this stuff.
The first ability I obtained was for defense. It's called static shield. By rotating ambient static electricity around my body, I'm able to generate a thin, barely visible, purple electric shield. The second is a weird one. It's called static fusion. When activated, im able to use my lightning internally to boost my speed, increase the power of my punches, or even coat my fist with a thin layer of lightning. There are a lot of applications for Static Fusion, can't wait to try it out.
The only downside to learning new abilities, I realized that im quite lacking when it comes to my mana pool. I'm able to keep my Static Shield active for a total of 40 seconds before it sputters out. Static Fusion only lasts for 5 seconds, or until I run into a wall and knock myself out.
KNOCK KNOCK
"MOM! SOMEONE'S AT THE DOOR!" Tyrl yelled from another room.
My mother, who was busy feeding me, sighed and carried me over to the front door. As she looked out the makeshift peephole, i saw a hint of a smirt on her face. She brucshed her sdress straight with her free hand, cleared her throat, and opened the door.
I was surprised to see the old doc standing there, then I remembered that he's my 'great uncle koran, the local lord'. I wonder why he's come, he hasn't visited much at all since my father died.
"Jesebel, i've come for your eldest. It's his time to decide between the army, navy, or the academy. I'll have him back to you by the end of the year regardless of his descision."
I could feel my mother's heart pounding into my back, threatening to break out of her chest. "He still has half a year left. Please Koran. If he leaves, I won't be able to support this family." She was clearly struggling to find her voice.
Koran tapped his foot in thought. "Then how about this. In two months, I will come for your youngest here instead. I will train him as my apprentice, and stand with him at the naming ceremony. This boy has been an anomoly i've wanted to solve since the day he was born. If you'll give me this honor, I'll speak with the captain of the guard and request that Tyrl be admonished from service." Koran had a gentle spark in his eye as he looked at my mother, then his gaze landed on me. His eyes went wide, and his hand shot to his mouth as he held back a cough.
"Are you alright, Mr. Koran?" I asked, curious as to the cause for his reaction.
His eyes buldged a little before he calmed himself and asked "You can already speak? well then, training you wont be so difficult now will it?" He held his hand over his beard, slowly massaging it. "However, for your question, I must ask you... Do you know how to do magic? Have you ever done something you can't explain?"
What did you see old man?
"He hasn't shown me any forms of magic." My mother cut in, answering for me.
"um..." My squeaky voice cut in, "I... I can do this."
I don't have much to say because I can't think of anything good to say, but good job with the book, it surpassed my expectations when I picked it up. Keep up the good work!
