"Whoa!"
"That's a good 'whoa,' I hope?" Andraste settled into Clyde's arms and he took a moment to catch his breath.
"Oh, it is." He grinned and rubbed her back slowly.
"For me, too." She raised herself up enough to look into his eyes and ran her talons through his hair.
He kissed the tip of her beak. She nuzzled him and lowered herself onto his chest again. He grinned, put his arms around her, and held her quietly for a moment.
"So," she said, almost whispering, "was this your first time with one of us?"
"Mm-hmm."
"Got your sights set on any others?" She propped herself up on her left arm and waited for his answer with a mischievous glimmer in her eyes.
"Nope. There's no one else I'd rather be with." He couldn't explain it, even to himself, but his feelings for her were already stronger than any he'd ever had for anyone else. He'd felt that way almost since he'd first seen her walk around the corner in that hallway. That was weird, especially given the circumstances under which they'd met, but he couldn't deny it.
"Really?" she whispered, her eyes wide.
"Yeah. I mean, if you feel the same way about me. I wouldn't want Tiamat to get the wrong idea and beat the shit out of me."
Andi laughed softly. "Don't worry, I won't let her misjudge our relationship." She leaned closer so they could kiss again. She tried her best to grin, though she seemed to be uncertain about the result.
"I like the way you smile," he said. "It's really cute."
"Thank you." She grinned again and rested her left hand on his chest. She gazed at him for a moment and said, "I'm glad this isn't just a one-time fling."
"I … have to admit, it started out that way. I mean, we were all curious, I guess. And … well, when I first saw the stuff on the news about chimeras -- the ones who appeared first, I mean -- I thought they were kind of scary. But then I started noticing that some of the females were, um … well, hot." He blushed again.
"Ah. Well, some of us have higher body temperatures than humans. I do, but I think you've already noticed that."
"Yeah, I did. But what I meant was … " He caught the look on her face and realized that she was just goofing around. He laughed. "Anyway, I started noticing that some of them had nice legs, good bodies, nice, uh … "
"Nice tits?" Andi chuckled and cupped her left breast in her hand.
"Definitely. None of 'em were as nice as yours, though."
"Why, thank you."
"You're quite welcome." He grinned and put his arms around her. "Anyway, I saw some real hotties around town, so I started wondering, y'know, what it would be like. Cassie told us about this place, told us that it'd be better to try here than some place where a lot of the older models hang out."
"Yeah, some of them are pretty aggressive, prone to violence, and strong enough to tear a person apart."
He nodded. "I guess she met her boyfriend here, so … "
"Well, she met him somewhere else -- I don't know the details -- and when she found out about this shelter, she brought him here so he could have a proper start in life. She kept meeting him here almost every night, so it looks like they're going to be staying together. Anyway, that's how she got to know the rest of us."
"Yeah. So when she found out that we wanted to try, uh … " He cleared his throat. "Anyway, she suggested this place. And I'm glad she did." He kissed her on the neck.
"So am I. I'm glad I met you." She stroked his cheek again. Something seemed to distract her. She glanced suddenly at the wall behind his pillow, then chuckled.
"What is it?"
"I can hear gasping and moaning from Adonis's room again." She nodded at the wall. "I guess they 'clicked' just like we did."
Clyde grinned. "Good. Katrilla's kind of had a hard time getting dates because she's, well, a little chunky."
Andraste cocked her head. "That matters to humans?"
"A lot of us, yeah." He shrugged. "I think she's attractive, but I guess a lot of people don't see things that way. So she's gotten a little insecure about her appearance."
"Ah. That must be why one of your friends had to push her toward Adonis even though she was obviously attracted to him."
"Yeah. But I'm glad she found someone. She's a nice girl, so I hope this'll help her realize she’s been too negative about herself."
"I sure hope so." Andi glanced at the wall again, turned back to Clyde and giggled softly. "Sounds like she's feeling better already."
He laughed and traced a finger over the edge of her large, pointed ear. "Those are pretty sensitive, then?"
"Yeah. They were designed that way." She pointed at her beak. "The geneticists got a lot of the details right, even though they screwed up some other things."
"Nah, there's nothing wrong with your face." He gave her another kiss. "I happen to like the way you look."
"Thank you." She parted her beak to let her tongue brush against his for a moment. "They also messed up a few other things in some of us. For me, it's my eyes. Everything looks a little blurry, and when I mentioned it to one of the human assistants, he said that I'm probably near-sighted, whatever that is."
"Yeah, that sounds right. Are you gonna have your eyes tested?"
"I've got an appointment for that in a couple days. I'm not sure what they can do about it, though." She sighed.
"Well, there's a routine surgical procedure that can fix it."
"Surgery? Like, cutting?" She shook her head. "Hell, no!"
Clyde laughed. "Relax, it's not like that. It's done with lasers. Completely safe."
"Eh, I dunno. I don't want anybody shooting lasers into my eyes, either."
"Well, there's contact lenses."
"Contact lenses?" She looked at him for a moment, then grimaced when she realized what he was talking about. "You mean, something that would touch my eyes?"
"Yeah. I guess that doesn't sound very appealing, either."
"No. Anything else that can be done about it?" Her eyes widened a little as she grew more worried. Clyde took her hand and held it.
"They can give you a pair of glasses, then. The lenses won't touch your eyes." He gazed at her a moment and smiled. "Actually, I think glasses would look good on you. I've always kind of had a thing for women who wear glasses. Well, depending on the frames. Some types of frames don't look very good."
"Ah. Well, since I don't have any idea what would look good, would you help me pick out the right frames?"
"I'd be happy to."
"Thank you." She smiled again -- then she frowned and turned to look at the door.
"Andi?" Clyde sat up and put a hand on her shoulder. "What's wrong?"
"There's a commotion outside."
Something slammed into the door and a male voice cried out. Clyde yelped and flailed and almost fell off the bed.
