Read His Last Wish :: Gym Class and Dismissal

Everyone had returned to the classroom as our English class had begun. About an hour later the bell rings through the classroom indicating that it was now time for gym class. I grab my backpack from off the floor and head towards the classroom door. Everyone else had left the room already and was in the locker room changing into our gym uniform. When I arrived at the locker room, everyone else was leaving and heading into the main gym. I begin to change into the black sweatpants and white t-shirt given to me by the principal earlier and then, I finally head out to the gym. As I entered the gym, Mr. Johnson had begun assigning everyone to a team, one on the left side of the gym and one on the right side. “Alright class, today we are going to be playing a game of dodgeball. Whichever team loses gets to run a lap around the gym.” He places the dodgeballs in a line in the center of the gym. The students around me head towards the wall and wait for the whistle to blow. I followed them because I have never played this game and don’t know how to play it. I feel and hand taps my shoulder as I turn to look at the brunette, emerald green-eyed boy from earlier. “Um, hi Jace. Is there something wrong?” I speak in a queasy voice. “Hi. And no there is nothing wrong although you do seem quite confused." Jace is a somewhat popular kid with many girls because of his looks and attitude. They don't realize how he feels when he is stuck around them. “Uhhh, haha, this may sound weird, but in truth, I have never played this game before. Since I have never been to a real school, I have never had the opportunity to play ball games.” I say these things to him and from afar, we seem like good pals, but in reality, this was probably as awkward for me as it is for him. I go to say something to Jace once more, but all that comes from my throat is a slight squeak. Great, I do something embarrassing, I will probably be made fun of. Best feeling in the WHOLE WORLD. “I can teach you how to play or you can observe for a few minutes.” Jace said, snapping me straight out of my thoughts. “Okay, Um, so do I just stand back and watch, or would you be willing to teach me how to play?” I was slightly surprised because he was offering to teach me how to play. A new kid who doesn't know anything about the game, and he was willing to take his time to teach me how to play... What a Gentlemen. Snap out of it Haru. You are starting to sound creepy. "You can stand back here while we begin and I'll pop over from time to time to explain what is happening if that is okay with you.” Jace answered snapping me from the realm of my mind. “That’s fine by me.” I replied in a quick response from being snapped out of my thoughts once again. The teacher walks over to the side of the gym as he blows the whistle for us to begin the game. I stand at the back of the gym watching as the game commences. Eventually, I began to understand the game that was being played. So, as a boy, I naturally wanted to begin playing. I jogged over to the dodgeball that was on the ground beside me. From watching them play for a few minutes, my natural instincts kicked in and I grabbed the ball and threw the ball with all my might. I watch as the deep blue, glistening ball flies over to the other side of the gym and hits someone straight on. After I throw a few more balls, hit and miss some of the times, we all stop to take a small break. I hadn’t realized till now how much I was panting from the heat and the exhaustion from running around like crazy. We all grab our water bottles from our book bags as we sit down. I try to take a drink of my water when I start coughing and choking on my water. People rush over as the coughing does not cease, and I continue to choke on my water. I feel a hand touch my back as my eyes begin to water. “I know you're not supposed to take off your mask, but it's the only option.” I hear a familiar voice in front of me. I feel as the fabric mask is removed from my face and see the other students' faces around me as the choking begins to seize. When I finally stop coughing, the teacher comes and asks, “Hey, are you okay now?” I pause for a moment, “Yeah… I’m okay, but one question.” “What’s your question?” He asks. “Where. Is. My. Mask.” I ask in a stern tone. I feel a hand touch my shoulder as the mask dangles in front of me. I grab it and begin to put it back on as I swing around to see who gave it to me. Once again. It was Jace. “Were you the one who took off my mask?” I ask Jace. “Yeah, I am. Sorry about that.” He says with an actually sorry look. While looking at him for that split second, I feel a heavy blush crossing my face. “I-It’s ok.” I stutter. What the actual heck. I- WHAT!! WHY AM I BLUSHING AND STUTTERING!!!. THIS ISN’T SOME CHEESY ROMANCE STORY!!! Okay… Let's calm down. The bell rings as the day is now over. They begin to call our buses as we all grab our bags and begin to walk out. I feel a hand land on my shoulder and I look back to see Jace standing behind me. “Is there something you need Jace?” “Um… no, I just wanted to see if we could be friends, and maybe you could give me your number?” He asks questionably. Wait, WHAT!! A cute boy is asking me... ME... FOR MY PHONE NUMBER!!! OH MY GOD!!! Alright, enough with the whole freak-out moment. "Um... Haru, you ok?" "Oh, Uh yeah I'm ok." I just realized how red my face was, luckily he couldn't see my face. "So, can I have your phone number, if I am allowed?" "Oh, yeah you can have my number if you'd like. It's 41-" "HEY, LITTLE BRO YOU COMING OR NOT!!!" I whip around and see Eiji with his head out the car window screaming. Apparently, our mom came to pick all of us up. "I am so sorry. Give me a moment. HEY!! I'M COMING ALRIGHT!! JUST GIVE ME LIKE TWO MINUTES!!" I screamed back at Eiji. I turn back to Jace as he stands confused and looking terrified by what just happened. "Sorry about that. Anyway, my phone number is (412)-xxx-xxxx." He types it into his phone and immediately texts me to make sure that it works.

Jace: Hi.

"Alright it did come through to me so, I have to get going now Jace, text you later, and if you or I can't then, see you tomorrow," I scream to him as I head to the car. "Bye Haru and thanks," Jace screams back to me. I open the car door and jump in as my siblings all look at me. "Soooooo, You got his number I see," Alisa says with a smirk on her face. "Oh, shut up." "Yo, that's an accomplishment. In the past years that I have been in school, I have never gotten a boy's number." The car starts as we head back to our house. We all begin to talk to one another, asking how our day was, and so forth on those topics. We arrive back at our home and head inside to begin our homework. So, other than the homework aspect of today, Today was a really good day. I can't wait to see what is in store for me tomorrow.
