She wakes up to Josiph humming. It is a song that her and her grandfather listened to together. For a brief moment it made it seem and feel like he, her grandfather, is there with her. Josiph, who is sitting close by the bed, notices that she is awake and stops humming.
"You know, I remember last night," She whispers, "I need the papers because my grandfather always writes personal notes on them."
"Here," He says with a questioning look. 'How can she remember? No one is supposed to remember after being fed on. Could it be because she's a pure hunter?'
"Thank you," She says as he hands her the papers. She puts the papers into her nightstand, "My mom has no idea of you and she will be waking up soon."
"Your mom knows nothing about me and has already left," He comments, standing up and heading towards the door. He is by the door as she gets up from her bed.
"What about my brothers and sisters," She asks as she goes to leave her room to go to the bathroom. She peeks out of her room and doesn’t see anyone in the hallway. She quickly walks, almost running, to the bathroom.
"They are getting up now," He answers as he steps into the bathroom. He doesn't look at her and closes the door. He makes sure to lock it as well.
"Okay, but they will want to use the bathroom, probably," She comments with a blush form upon seeing him enter the bathroom with her.
"You're right but they are heading downstairs right now so I think we are okay," He says as she finishes up. They quickly get back to her bedroom after getting the bathroom door unlocked. Josiph follows her.
“What are you doing,” She asks, still slightly blushing.
“I’m coming in here so no one sees me,” He replies as he closes the door.
“Well, I will be getting dressed so this is a little awkward,” She says as she blushes a bit more.
“Fine, I will turn around if you want,” He says as he walks over and sits down on the bed.
“Fine but if I catch you peeking I will personally drive a blessed dagger,” She comments while going through her clothes.
“Okay,” He says, knowing she will actually do it. She picks out an outfit. The outfit is not tight but not baggy either. They are dulled from age. A pair of blue jeans, a light colored band tee, and a pair of socks. She starts to get changed.
"That mark on your arm, that is your family’s seal right," He asks, not looking at her.
"Yeah and I told you not to peek," She says while throwinging a dagger right past his head.
"Hey I wasn't peeking, I saw it last night," He says as he ends up sitting on the floor in a split second.
"Last night," She questions as she finishes getting dressed.
"Yes, I got dressed for bed," He replies with regret in his voice.
"What," She comments in shock.
"I am sorry. I won't do it again if you wish," He says, scared.
"No, it's okay," She comments as she puts a hand on her mark. She sits down on her bed remembering that day.
It was a sunny and clear day as well as one of the last days she saw her grandfather. Her grandfather it was time for her to do her Seal Rite. She was nervous but she nodded. Her grandfather told her the rules and guidelines she had to follow before and after the Rite. She had to bathe in a bath of moon water, lavender, rose, and violet. She wasn't allowed to bathe herself either. There were 3 witches that were helping and doing the Rite. They helped bathe her. She had to wear a special outfit the witches brought with them. It was a dress made of a light fabric that is black. It had a red gleam to it in the light. It also had white beading trimming the skirt, sleeves, and the collar. The fabric was soft to the touch almost like silk but not quite. She was kept in a special room that had no windows and just one door. The room was in the basement of her grandfather’s house. The room had pitch black walls, super soft blood red carpet, and it was lit by candle light. She only had contact with the witches. The witches brought her food, drink, and books to read. Her meals were specific to certain foods and she was only allowed to drink water. She mostly ate fish, rice, and bread. The books that she read helped her study more into being a hunter. She took a nap in between reading some books. She slept peacefully until one of the witches woke her. She yawned as she woke and the witch motioned for Marie to follow her. Marie did.
The witch led her outside. Its pitch black out. The witches had a circle of fire going and the were standing in the middle of it. The witch that brought Marie out, led her into the circle. Marie saw a bed of flowers. There were so many flowers that it was hard to tell what kind of flowers were all there. The flowers are a wide variety of colors as well. The witches instructed Marie to lay down on the bed of flowers. The witches start to chant and once Marie gets the flower bed things start to look fuzzy. She falls to her knees and crawls on to the flower bed. She lays on her back on the bed of flowers. She closes her eyes as the witches start to chant. Everything then goes dark for her. The witches continue the ceremony and their chanting starts to pick up speed a little. They watch as the flowers around Marie lift and fly around Marie as they change colors. The flowers change into only 2 colors. Blue and Black. They hear Marie gasp in her induced sleep. They then knew that the mark started to show. They start to chant even faster as Marie starts to stir. Marie was having a nightmare. She kept seeing a castle, blood, a man, her brother, and 2 collars. Over and over. She got a bad feeling from what she was seeing. The witches start to finish up when Marie's eyes open suddenly and are blood red. The fire shoots high and Marie sits up.
"The prophecy will be fulfilled," A deep voice says, coming from Marie. Then Marie passes back out. The witches finish up and one of them picks up Marie. They carry her to her room. They then meet with her grandfather.
"How did the Rite go," He asks, not knowing what happened since he couldn't attend.
"It went just as planned with no hiccups," The witches reply, hiding a lie of what happened.
"That’s good to hear," He says as he showed them out. They leave. Marie, asleep in her room, was still having nightmares. When she woke up it was morning. Marie is brought back by hearing someone calling her.
"Marie," Josiph calls concerned.
"Yeah," She answers when she finally comes back. Josiph looks and approaches her cautiously.
"The family seal is a rite of passage for new family hunters," She says absent mindedly, "Its different for each hunter."
"Oh, then your grandfather must of given it to you then, right," He asks as he sits down next to her.
"Yeah, he gave it to me the last time I was here," She says as she snaps back to reality.
"I'm sorry," He says with concern and sadness in his voice.
"No, its okay," She says as she walks towards the window, "My mom doesn’t know about it. So, no brining it up when she is around, okay?"
"Okay but why doesn’t your mother know about it," He asks, confused.
"I haven't told her and she doesn’t want us kids going into the family business," She answers with a sigh. While looking out the window.
"Oh so, no mentioning it when your mom is around," He says , making a mental note.
"Okay, let's start the day off with some breakfast," She says heading towards the door of her room.
"Your sisters and brother are coming up the stairs now," He says, instantly standing beside her.
"You are so lucky," She says while sighing.
"Why do you say that," He asks, curious.
"You have super hearing," She replies, walking back to the bed trying to think of a plan.
"Its not that great," He says while going back to the bed and laying down. Marie heads back to the door and opens it a crack.
"Okay, I think 2 are in their rooms and the other 2 are gone," She says while looking through the crack in the door.
"I guess we can go have breakfast now," He comments as he walks up to the door and stands next to her. Both of them walk out the door and downstairs for breakfast.
"You can go out to the field in daylight, can’t you," She asks, remembering seeing him out there once.
"Yes, if the shield is up," He says as they hear the doorbell ring.
"Shield," She questions as heads towards the door.
"Yes," He answers vaguely as he follows her to the door. She answers the door and see a teenage looking boy with black hair that has red highlights. He has a black leather jacket with silver studs. He has a black skin tight shirt with black ripped skinny jeans on. He has black combat boots on as well.
"Hello," Marie greets him.
"Hello, is there a Marie Aula living here," He greets and asks with a smile.
"Yes, I'm Marie Aula," She cautiously answers him, trying to figure out what he is up too.
"Thank you, you saved me time trying to find you," He says, stepping into the house.
"Josiph," She whispers towards him.
"Yes," he comments from behind her.
"Hello Josiph," The visitor with venom in his voice.
"Hello dear brother," Josiph greets as he steps in front of her.
"Josiph, care to introduce me," She asks with her gaurd up.
"Marie, this is my brother, Markus," He says as he stands protectively in front of her.
"Now brother, is that how you greet me after all these years," Markus asks with a smirk.
"Markus, you know you aren’t allowed here. Remember last time," Josiph says as he takes a step towards Markus.
"That was just an accident," Markus says with a sigh, "You forgive me right, Marie?"
"No, I now remember you and what you tried to do," She says in a low growl as she prepares herself for anything
"Well that sucks, my hunter wanted me to give you something," Markus says as he pulls out an envelope from his jacket pocket.
"You can give it to Josiph," She says then starts to push them outside, "Outside now."
"Why are we outside," Markus asks, irritated.
"I didn't even hear them. We are out in the open out here as well," Josiph says looking around as he hears 2 of Marie's siblings come through the back door, finally.
"Its okay. It may be cloudy and we may be on the shaded patio but nothing is going to happen. Its still early in the morning," She comments, reassuring Josiph.
"So, care to explain what is going on," Markus asks, getting angry.
"A lot has happened since we moved in," She sighs as she looks around the yard.
"Like what," Markus asks sneering and smirking.
"Nothing that we can’t handle. Now leave," Josiph says harshly towards Markus.
"Fine here," Markus says as he hands Josiph the envelope. Josiph hands it to Marie and she opens it. She pulls out the letter that's inside of the envelope. It says:
Dear Marie Aula,
We are sorry to hear about the passing of your grandfather. As the last pure blood hunter, we have one thing to ask. Will you meet with us? It would be an honor.
Thank you
The Winson Family
"We should go," She halfway asks with a smile.
"The Winson family were friends to your grandfather," Josiph comments, thinking for a moment, "I would be happy to join you."
"Great, should we go later today or tomorrow," She asks as she starts to head back inside and Markus has already left.
"If we have time we can go by today but if not then tomorrow will work,” Joseph answers as he follows her. Marie opens the door and runs into her sister, Christina. Joseph hides as he leaves the doorway.
