A girl went out running from her taxi. Her face red and covered with thin layer of sweat that was tracing her forehead and the nape of her neck. She adjusted her tiger pattern glasses and went through the door of the security desk of the huge building of the multinational digital transformation company, Riverland.
She was greeted by a smiling receptionist who looked oddly relaxed. “Good morning, how can I help you?”
The girls smiled back and said, “I’m here for the orientation of the new position at Movflix account.” She showed the sitting receptionist her ID. She looked a bit younger in the photo.
“Welcome Sarah, here’s your visitor card access, don’t forget to return it at the end of the day.” They exchanged the cards. The receptionist stood up and pointed at the direction of the room where the orientation was. The girl thanked her and shifted her body.
She head downstairs for the under-ground meeting room. The stairs ended with a glass door to a big room filled with twenty chairs aligned close to each other facing a large whiteboard. Sarah took a quick deep breath and opened the door. Only nine people were sitting, they all looked busy with their phones, but all looked at her as she stepped inside.
They moved their eyes back at their phone. Sarah looked around a seemed somehow taken back by their reaction. Only one kept looking at her, Sarah’s eyes met with her, Daren smiled at her revealing her dimpled smile. It eased Sarah a little. She smiled back and went to sit next to Daren. As she took the seat, she began to breath loudly.
“Did you run to get here? I’m Dareen Yaqoob,” she said and extended her hand to shake hers.
Sarah gladly took her hand and smiled back at her and said, “Sarah Eldeeb.”
“So, tell me why you look like you’re about to pass out?”
Sarah laughed lightly and said, “I just finished my last exam in college, but it took me forever to get here!”
Dareen sighed and laughed. “You just finished college! What brought you here? You should take your time to relax, it took me like almost a year to start my first job, I just couldn’t bring myself to do anything after finishing college four years ago.”
Sarah eyed her and said, “Four years! You look younger than me.” Dareen smiled at Sarah’s surprise reaction. Dareen is twenty-six years old who looked pretty much not over twenty, she has a fit curvy 5′ 3 body. She was dressed in dark blue ankle jeans, a big white t-shirt with the front part tucked inside the jeans, and a pair of black vans sneakers. She had her long wavy hair laying on her back with a half-up top knot. She was wearing little makeup with winged black eyeliner, long lashes, and light red cheek and lips.
“How old are you?” Dareen asked and shifted a little in her chair to face Sarah.
“I’m twenty-two.” Sarah looked older than Dareen yet still young. She had a round face with high cheekbones, kinda small eyes that looked a lot bigger with the thin eyeliner she had. Full lips, and smooth olive skin. She had a medium lob haircut in black and pink ombre. She was wearing a light blue ripped jeans and bohemian style blue and white embroidered v neck shirt. She had a short chubby body and small hands filled with colored gemstones rings.
“I’m twenty-six.”
“No way!” Sarah said and smiled at Dareen who smiled as well. The door opened again revealed another person coming through it out of breath. Dareen looked at Sarah then at the young man catching his breath. “We haven’t started yet,” Sarah said and smiled at him.
“Thank god,” he said and sat in front of them, he didn’t look back at them and tried to calm his raising chest before looking back introducing himself. “I’m Younes.” The girls introduced themselves, he shook their hands and shifted his body and looked at them. “I thought I was running late! I drove like crazy to get here on time.”
“Why? Where do you live?”
“I live near, but I came from college and it’s like at the other side of the city.” he paused for a second then continued. “It was the last day, I had to be there, I didn’t think they would arrange an orientation day that fast.” Sarah looked at Dareen and laughed. “What? Didn’t I say something funny without realizing it?”
The girls laughed more at his deadpan ton and serious face. Younes was a tall tan-skinned young man with dark brown beard and hair, he was a charming one with a dazzling smile and slightly muscled body. He was wearing thin black glasses that gave him a classic look of a handsome nerd. “No, you’re just me like five minutes ago, I came running as well out of breath thinking I’m running late and also I came from college, last day as well.”
“Nice! We’re the same age, we should all be friends then,” Younes said and looked at them both, Dareen smiled and shook her head no. “What? You don’t wanna be friends?”
“She’s older, can you believe she’s twenty-six!” Sarah said.
“No way! You look young.”
“Okay people, what is wrong here? You’re acting as if I told you, I’m an eighty-year-old woman, I’m just four years older,” Dareen said and frowned jokingly.
“You just look like you’re twenty, not almost thirty,” Younes said.
“We just met, do you really wanna see my angry side from day one?” Dareen said and smiled. Younes laughed along with Sarah. The door opened again, and a couple of people came through it and took two chairs far from them.
“How did you get this job then?” Younes asked as he leaned on his chair.
“I wanted to change my career a bit, I’m a UX designer and just wanted to have some experience in sales, I needed it in general,” Dareen said. “Also, my older cousin works here as well, she was in the wave that got in two months ago.”
“I didn’t have a chose,” Sarah said and smiled. “My brother works here too, he’s the one who will be training us.”
“Nice, your brother is the boss then,” Younes said. “For me, my father was the one pushing me to start a job in sales, I’m interested to work in my major in college which is e-commerce and trading so technically I need a hell of an experience in sales before jumping into my dream job.”
“That’s good, having a clear path from early on, when I graduated college, I was like thanking god that I didn’t have to do anything for a while, you guys makes me feel like I’m old and lazy.”
“You are old, you’re near thirty!” Dareen smacked Younes's left shoulder, they all laughed.
