Chapter 9
Sam and Alex both stared at him from where they were, their faces turning pink, then scarlet, then purple. Alex was first to move, he jumped up and rushed to Jason. “Mr. Miller, uh, Sam just had a panic attack! He needs some time alone with me, so, uh, get out!” Alex stuttered as he thrusted Jason through the door and slammed it in his face. “Just go to my mom and dad!”
With that, Alex rushed back to Sam, who was lying motionless on the floor, eyes closed. “Sam? Are you okay?” Sam opened his eyes and gazed at him coolly. “Sam?” Sam’s face crumpled and he put his hands over his face, Alex stared at Sam’s heaving form, feeling the fear and terror radiating off of him. “Sam, I’m so sorry…” Alex, using Silver’s strength, carried Sam to the bed, and sat him down. Sam’s quiet weeping was the only sound in the room.
Alex felt movement to his side, he turned his head and saw that his hand was slowly creeping towards Sam’s head. Silver, what do you think you’re doing?! The chrome metal spread from Alex’s palm down to the underside of his fingers, before the sentient hand grabbed onto Sam’s head. Sam tensed, then relaxed, “I’m temporarily removing the fear that’s clouding his mind.” Silver explained through Alex’s phone.
“Sam?” Alex put a hand over his shoulder, “Are you…?”
“Oh GOD, I think I’ve been possessed by a demonic entity.” Sam groaned, “At least you got possessed by a ghost, I’m pretty sure there’s a demon inside me.”
“First of all, we still don’t know what Silver is. Second, we visited the church earlier today. If there actually was a demon inside you, you’d be writhing on the ground in pain in the courtyard.”
“DO I NOT RESEMBLE A DEMON?!” Sam cried as he leapt up, transforming back into that hulking beast. To be honest, he did kinda resemble a demon, but to Alex, Sam felt more like a beast. When he said as much, Sam instantly turned back into his normal form and sighed, hand over his eyes. “I guess that wasn’t globs of glue that went down my throat.”
“Your claws are an eligible weapon in combat, Beast.” Silver remarked,
“Huh? When did I become Beast?”
“You look like one, Sam. Silver can read my-”
Alex’s tongue stopped working when Sam turned to face him.
“What?”
“Your eyes are… Red”
“WHAT!?” Sam gasped,
“And you have sharp teeth.”
“Gah… I’m a werewolf and a vampire.”
“I should call you werepire then.” Silver said.
“NO! Don’t you DARE!”
“Okay, werepire.”
“SHUT UP!”
Sam’s fingers were trembling, “Alex… I have a creature inside me, okay? Now tell Silver to SHUT UP!”
“Okay, I’ll just call whatever was inside you Beast instead, okay?”
“Stop it with the simplistic nicknames!” Alex cut in, “Anyway, your dad told me to bring you your suit.”
“Ooh! Nice! They come with fountain pens!” Sam seemed to forget everything that just happened as he jumped forward and snatched the box.
“Careful, Sam. You might cut yourself and-”
Sam suddenly flinched, Alex could hear something splatter against his shirt. When Sam turned around, Alex saw red, red all over his white polo T-shirt, going all the way up his face, his hands were also covered in red, as if he had just murdered somebody.
“My pen exploded.”
Alex sighed, “See? I told you to be careful! Now you look like a psychotic serial killer!”
“Well, help me open the bathroom door! D’you want me to mess it up?”
“Fine.” Alex grumbled, he opened the door and Sam carefully stepped in, “Now the faucet.”
Alex gritted his teeth and slowly began to turn the knob, “I’m sensing abnormal amounts of frustration, so I’m wiping it from your mind.” Silver said through the phone, turning up the volume so that he could be heard above the noise of the gushing water.
Alex was just about to yell out some expletive that he was gonna regret but then he took a deep breath and stepped aside. But he knocked over a bar of soap and before he knew it he was falling, the marble floor rising up to meet his back. Silver moved his arm back, so that it would catch him. But even if Silver wasn’t there, Alex still wouldn’t have hit the ground because Sam was in front of him instantly, hands on his waist.
“Whoa! Careful there! You don’t wanna crack your head!” Sam exclaimed.
“You sound exactly like your dad.” Alex grumbled as he carefully extracted himself from Sam’s still stained hands, “You ruined my shirt! Now wash your hands!”
When they finally emerged from the hotel room, Jason was standing outside. “Wow! What happened?” he asked, “Did someone get hurt? Bloody handprints are always a bad sign.”
“I-ah… No, a fountain pen exploded in my hands.”
“Well, then,” Jason chuckled, eyeing Alex’s waist, “looks like your hands went to places.”
Alex choked on a dozen different swear words before he thrusted Sam back through the door. “Please tell me that your dad also has aspirin.” Alex groaned as he sat back onto the bed.
“As a matter of fact,” Sam reached into the nightstand, “he does.”
“Gimme that!” Alex lunged at Sam, desperately reaching for the pill bottle Sam held in his hand.
“NO!” Sam deliberately held the bottle away from him, “You can only take two at a time!”
Alex grabbed his arm, but Sam put the bottle back into his other hand. He grabbed his shirt, but Sam threw him off. Alex landed on the carpet belly pressed against the ground. Alex got off the ground and charged at him again, this time, knocking Sam to the ground. They struggled and rolled around for a bit before Sam was finally able to pin Alex down to the ground, kneeling on his back. He opened the bottle and put two pills into his hand and popped them into his mouth. “Two pills.”
Alex pushed himself up using his newfound superstrength and threw Sam onto the ground. He reached forward, a silver claw stretching from his hand grabbed the pill bottle and tried to take it from Sam. He tugged and jerked, “Let… Go!”
“No!”
Sam’s iron grip on the bottle finally loosened and the pills were flung out as the backwards momentum threw Alex’s hand back. He scrambled to pick them up, but Sam was on top of him again, he took out something from his pocket and put it in his mouth. “You have asthma?!”
“Of course, dumbass.”
“I never noticed that.”
“You don’t notice anything.”
Of course Alex knew, he had already used Silver to scan Sam’s mind. This was all a ploy to distract him and it was working really well, Alex thought as his arm slowly creeped out. With a sudden flash, he snatched the pill bottle away from Sam, “Who’s the dumbass now-”
But before Alex could pour whatever remained in the pill bottle into his mouth Sam had already jumped up and shoved him back pinning him to the ground. Alex tried to swing out his arms but he only flung the pill bottle out of the open window. “You’re right,” Alex sighed, “I am a dumbass.”
“You know, you should’ve just asked Silver to clear your head.”
