After leaving Nӕse, the Three-Eyed Cąȶ wandered for a good hiding place from Death. It thought for sure Death would not find it in the World of People for a long time. Yet as the Three-Eyed Cąȶ looked around, it soon became overwhelmed. Every time its future eye fell upon a person, it saw an infinite number of possible futures. The Three-Eyed Cąȶ had never met creatures with free will before and the possibilities gave the poor Three-Eyed Cąȶ a headache. It became almost impossible for the Three-Eyed Cąȶ to move about the world, so it closed their future seeing eye. With the future seeing eye close, the Three-Eyed Cąȶ was relieved of the burden of seeing the future. Gleefully it changed its form and hid for many, many years among the people.
Death, however, did not take long to come to the World of the People, seeking the Three-Eyed Cąȶ. Unfortunately, since Death had never been experienced in this world before, the people did not understand what was happening. Soon they fell victim to their fear. This fear grew until the Three-Eyed Cąȶ could no longer use its soul eye to look into the people’s souls and minds. The people’s anger, fear, and hatred were so overpowering that the Three-Eyed Cąȶ could only cry. After many years, the people’s anger, fear, and hatred turned inward when they couldn’t not find someone to blame. They turned on each other and crimes of slavery, murder, rape, and other horrible atrocities came into being as the people projected their fear onto others. Such brutality was too much for the spirit. As a creation of the Deity, it pained the Three-Eyed Cąȶ to see such tragedy.
So, the Three-Eyed Cąȶ blinded itself. With time, the darkness of the people’s fear darkened the world, causing absolute darkness. No sun, no moon, nothing. The people were living in their own fear. On the Solstice, the Three-Eyed Cąȶ returned to its original form, because the Three-Eyed Cąȶ can appear in any form it wishes, and went before the people. With all eyes watching, the Three-Eyed Cąȶ opened its eye that sees the future.
Speaking to the people, the Three-Eyed Cąȶ proclaimed, “People of the Deity, I know your fear consumes you as the darkness consumes our world, but today on the Solstice, which is lost in this darkness, I give you my eye of the future. Through it see all the potential for the world around us. Through is realize that this darkness will end if you keep moving forward.”
With that, the Three-Eyed Cąȶ plucked out their future seeing eye and let the wind disperse it to all of the people of the world. With the eye of the future, the people gained hope again and the darkness faded. The growing darkness that comes each year and ends with the Solstice is a reminder of what the Three-Eyed Cąȶ gave to the people and what happens when they use their fear of Death to justify terrible crimes.
