It was a beautiful morning. The sun was shining brightly, the swallows were singing jubilantly, and you could see the odd animal hunting for its breakfast. In the two cat camps, the guard’s ears were moving rapidly in every direction as they kept a keen watch on every minuscule movement visible to their sensitive eyes.In the Stormclaw camp, Nova, a dog black as midnight with grey splotches scattered around and eyes as green as jade, was sitting with Cosmo, a dog with the front half of her body black with one large white splodge, her back half white with one black splodge, and eyes as yellow and beady as an eagle’s. They were sisters. Their fur was blowing around slowly in the gentle breeze and their bodies coated in a magnificent golden morning light. The pair lay there and watched as the sun rose and the pinks and oranges of the vast sky gradually faded into the blues and whites of early morning. “Absolutely gorgeous, isn’t it, Cos,” Nova quietly commented, almost whispering.
“Yeah, Stormclaw is amazing.” It was only then that they noticed that the daily dark grey clouds were starting to gather, and they weren’t sheltered by the many branches of the evergreen trees in Stormclaw camp. “We’d better get going, though!”
They were racing through the undergrowth in the general direction of camp, when suddenly they bumped into the claw leader, Opal. “Oh, just in time, you two,I need your help.”Cosmo and Astro exchanged worried glances. It wasn't often opal needed help to do anything except move the odd fallen tree after a storm.Opal hesitated. “There have been loads of weird hisses and, well, whatever noise a cat makes, coming from just outside the border. We have no idea who, or what, they are coming from, since we haven’t been able to spot them. 2 of our talented young messengers went to ask the cat leaders but to no avail. Their answers were that there was no one missing or gone from the camps at the time, they were eating their lunch.”
“What…” Cosmo panicked in her head, as did Nova. Cosmo snarled quietly and glared while Nova asked: “well, how can we help?”
“I would like it if you could get some of the other warriors to help you guard the borders around stormclaw, that would be a massive help.”
“Sure!” Nova exclaimed with confidence while Cosmo looked reluctant, her teeth showing slightly.
The two dogs stumbled over to where Opal had sent them, but before long Nova’s excellent sense of hearing already picked up on some rustling sounds coming from some tall dry grasses and some hissing sounds from the trees. She stopped Cosmo, who was bearing her teeth.
“Here we shall separate. But before you go, I have a question for you. Why were you so...quiet, and, well, you looked so mean and annoyed the whole time!”
Just then, Cosmo’s eyes widened as if in fear and she headed in the opposite direction, into the forest.
After recovering from that weird reaction, Nova walked a little until she reached a clearing close to the area of camp near the border, and stopped to take a small breather. She gazed into the forest for a moment, and thought she saw the silhouette of a cat. She barely had time to react before the cat pounced right onto her.
