JJBA Part 5.5 : Clear of Dreams

South of Heaven [PART 1]

South of Heaven [PART 1]

Jul 13, 2021

Summer Knight. The seemingly invincible assailant was crumbling away before the very eyes of Georgia, Frida, Harry, and Dalia. The stone golem’s face gave off an air of befuddlement, as the chunks of rock evaporated away into dust. The enemy stand was gone. Dalia stuck her tongue out at the dying golem.

“Hah! Piece of cake! If this is all the enemy~ow has to use against us, they're in for a rough time~ya!”

“Seems like it,” said Georgia. “With the enemy stand defeated, we should be able to track down Salvador without fear of being chased.”

Georgia held her arms out in front of her. Shattered Dreams pulled the cufflinks off Georgia's jacket.

“I’m not sure why, but Salvador's stand is turning everything in the area into a compass that leads straight towards him. And if we can figure out his direction with one compass... we can figure out his exact location with two!”

Shattered Dreams placed the cufflinks on the back of Georgia's hands. They spun around, but soon faced forward, both pointing nearly the same direction. Shattered Dreams placed a map of Berlin on the alley wall, and projected a pair of blue lines onto it. The two lines met on the Spree River, a few kilometers north-east of the alleyway.

“There!” shouted Georgia. “That's where Salvador is! Now, let's hurry there before it's too late!”

“I'll take to the rooftops!” said Harry, as Rapture began to pull apart his body. “Everyone, follow me!”

Rapture carried the disassembled Harry up the walls, as the girls ran out of the alleyway.

Michaela and Egon stood on the banks of the Spree, staring blankly into the waters. Michaela sighed, huddling deeper into her leather jacket.

“Virginia's late. Again,” drolled Egon. “Are you sure she's your most trusted cherub?”

Michaela did not respond. She turned away from him, and watched her stand, Xanadu, place the boy down on the ground. Michaela reached into her victim's jacket. She found an empty box of raisins, a bloodstained notepad, and a wallet. Michaela opened the wallet to see a student ID. Michaela squinted at the card. She began to chuckle.

“What's so funny?” said Egon.

Michaela continued to giggle uncontrollably. “The boy’s name is ‘Salvador Harrison’. And his age lines up perfectly too. I can’t believe it. This is too much of a coincidence!”

“You mean…”

Michaela returned the wallet.

“That's right,” sighed Michaela. “It's funny... I suppose, based on his family, and that teddy bear stand, this boy was probably some shitty kid who was too afraid to grow up.”

“Only I'm allowed to talk about him like that, you bitch!”

Michaela peered over her shoulder. Harry Warhol rushed at her, a fully-formed Rapture behind him. Michaela scowled. She pulled a lighter out of her jacket with her left hand, gripping it tightly next to her feather, and flicked it open. Xanadu's right hand appeared around Michaela's, and she grabbed the flame. Michaela drew a massive fiery broadsword out of the lighter. Rapture threw a hook towards Michaela's face. Michaela slashed the sword through Rapture, lighting many of the stand's cells on fire. Fire exploded out of Harry's torso.

Egon scanned the river, grumbling impatiently. He adjusted J-Lo's position on his shoulders, slinging her upper body over his back.

Harry writhed on the ground, a flaming hole in his gut.

“I take it that struck a nerve, ponytail?” taunted Michaela. “Was Mr. Harrison a friend of yours?”

“You... monster!”

“Define 'monster'.”

“Georgia, don't!” screamed Frida.

Michaela looked up from the burning Harry. Georgia dashed towards her. Frida and Dalia were following, but were still further up the street. Michaela lifted the sword overhead and swung it down towards Georgia's skull. Georgia seemingly disappeared, reappearing a few inches to the side, and Shattered Dreams caught the blade. The sword melted slightly into Shattered Dreams's hand. Shattered Dreams's forearm began to crack, and cuts appeared on Georgia's arm. Georgia winced.

“D-damn it!” thought Georgia. “No matter how hard I push, I can't budge that sword an inch! But this isn't... a stand pushing! I can't explain it, but there's... no weight to the attack! Frida was right! This fire ability... it's held together by a power ‘beyond’ stands!”

“Hold up,” said Michaela. “You're Georgia? Georgia Geovana?”

“Yeah, why?”

“How are you a teenager?”

“What?”

“Giovanna was born in 1985. You... can't be any younger than 14, surely. Did Giovanna have a kid at age 12?! That doesn't seem right at all... are you a younger sister, or a niece?”

“So, quick question,” interrupted Georgia.

“Hm?”

Shattered Dreams disappeared. Michaela slammed her flame sword into the pavement, missing Georgia entirely. Georgia pointed her slightly-melted hand over to J-Lo.

“Did you kill Jackie-Louise?”

“Oh, you know her name?” chuckled Michaela. “Yes... I suppose you could say I did.”

“I figured as much,” said Georgia. “The clean hole through the head... that's exactly how Risotto Caligula described my father's death. Your stand was the one that toppled Passione.”

“Ok, see, I knew that riddle said you were his daughter!” said Michaela, slinging her sword over her shoulder. “Glad to know I'm not going crazy.”

“Except, that still doesn't add up,” said Georgia. “Even if you have a power beyond a normal stand, so did my father! No matter how powerful your stand is, any attack on Giorno Giovanna is futile!”

“CLEEEEE-YAAAA!”

Michaela looked away from Georgia to see Frida leaping in from the side. A pair of fans were attached to Miss Robot's hands. A blast of wind slammed into Michaela, blowing her hair back. Miss Robot let its arms down as Frida stared in shock. The wind had no effect on the sword.

“So, this is how you defeated that Summer Knight I created,” mused Michaela. “Resourceful. But, I think you'll find that not all of my spells have the same weakness to wind.”

Michaela swung the sword around, and stabbed it through Miss Robot's outstretched piston arm. A fiery gash exploded out of Frida's right arm. Michaela yanked the sword out of Miss Robot, and held it to her side. Michaela lifted her left hand up to her head, and brushed the hair out of her face with the feather. Suddenly, an invisible fist punched Michaela's right arm, forcing her to drop the sword. Shattered Dreams became visible. The fire sword landed in the river, and evaporated in a puff of steam.

“It's the four classical elements,” said Georgia. “Earth, fire, air, and water. That's how your power works – you transmute those four materials into weapons and creatures. Each of your stand's attacks can only be destroyed by its opposite element – Earth by air, fire by water, air by earth, and water by fire. So long as we can get the opposite element, this ‘unstoppable’ stand is actually no problem at all!”

“Bravo!” blurted Michaela “I don't think I've ever met anyone who figured it out that quickly! You truly are your father's daughter! However... don't assume you have my spells beat just because you found one puzzle piece. I doubt you'll muster up enough fire to stop this next attack. Xanadu!”

Xanadu appeared in full behind Michaela, and flew backward into the middle of the river. The stand reached to the water, and the surface rippled. Blue tentacles as thick as cars and a squid-like head begin to grow out of the river. Georgia stepped backward, looking around furtively. She saw the closed lighter in Michaela's hand, and Harry's burning gut. She looked back at the forming sea monster, and froze in her tracks.

“Giorno Giovanna had ideals of truth and heroism,” said Michaela. “He believed protecting the righteous and destroying the unscrupulous was the correct way to bring peace to the world. His ideals... well, to be frank, they disgusted me to no end. If a man with a holstered gun came to Giovanna's door and demanded to know where the next door neighbors were, his blind devotion to ‘truth’ would have gotten them killed. No matter how much Giovanna tried to uphold his ideals of honor and righteousness, he ultimately still ran a syndicate of thieves, traffickers, and murderers.”

Michaela flicked a hair off her right hand, and continued. “This world is a world of ‘desire’ and ‘consequences’, Georgia Geovana. Ponytail over there desired revenge for the death of Salvador Harrison. Miss Lab Coat's desire was to defend you from my spells. Those desires were not good, nor were they evil. They were simply desires. The only way an action can be judged is through its consequences. How many people did those desires benefit? Who did they harm? I have nothing against you personally, Georgia. Your glass stand and your enigmatic history intrigue me, and I would relish the opportunity to chat and see how your life philosophy aligns with your father's. But, regrettably, letting you live would conflict with my ultimate desire. A desire leading to a consequence that benefits all mankind. My ‘ultimate consequence’ is above all else... and thus, I can't let anyone stand in my way.”

“Gotcha, gotcha, desires and consequences,” said Georgia with a smirk. “So, just so we're clear... killing me is a stepping stone towards your ultimate consequence, but keeping the Secret Steps safe isn't, correct?”

“What?”

Michaela caught a glance of a gloved hand extending past her face. She looked down, and saw Yellow Submarine swimming through her chest. A hand on a spring stuck out of the stand, and grabbed the feather. Dalia walked up behind Georgia.

“Got it! All right, Mistress, hope you don't mind me taking the feather~ya!”

“Shit! Xanadu!”

Xanadu zipped back. The forming sea monster dissipated back into the water, returning the river to normal. Xanadu grabbed Yellow Submarine, and pulled back. Yellow Submarine continued to float in Michaela’s body, without budging an inch.

“Damn it!” groaned Michaela. “How heavy is this thing?! Egon!!!”

Egon peered over his shoulder towards Michaela. Egon spun around, and summoned a ten-foot-tall humanoid stand behind him. The stand was a skeletal figure with an enormous, golden suit of armor. Its helmet and gauntlets had vents on all sides, and it was splattered with blood. Dalia stared in shock. She took a step backwards. Egon’s stand flew over Michaela, and reached down towards the extending arm of Yellow Submarine.

“Sh-shit!” sputtered Dalia. “Yellow Submarine~ya! Drop the feather, drop everything! Get back here, quickly!”

“What's wrong, Dalia?!” gasped Frida. “What do you hear?!”

“Th-that stand! That... that's the bastard that killed my mother!”
