Energos or ministra, dominant or submissive. A magic user can only be one or the other. So Kestrel does his best to act like an energos, even though he knows he's different. Wrong. When he comes to the royal court, he must guard his secret more carefully than ever if he hopes to survive.
And that means avoiding attention from other courtiers, especially the beautiful, mysterious Aramy. Despite being a ministra, Aramy is far from submissive, and he seems to understand Kestrel in a way no one ever has. But Kestrel knows better than to get close to him, not when Aramy is already bonded to the Crown Prince himself.
Yet he can't silence his feelings so easily. As their illicit attraction blooms, danger surrounds them on all sides, and Kestrel must decide if he can truly trust Aramy - or if he's only become a piece in a merciless schemer's game.
