The truck stopped about two blocks after Brit's house. The driver went outside the vehicle and proceeded to go behind the truck to open its doors. He opened the truck's doors to reveal the belongings of Brit and Chief. He went in and put an inclined plane down. Another person went out of the truck and waited for the person to give him the lighter furniture and belongings. The heavier of the furniture was brought out by trolley.
It took about 2 hours to get the hefty belongings out of the truck and get it in the house. By the time they finished it was already 3 in the morning. "I'll take it from here, you guys. Thanks," Brit said to the movers. "Get some rest for now. I'll start fixing up by sunrise. Just a bit of shuteye should get us going. Besides, my friend and his fiancé are already asleep," Brit said, looking at the car. Inside was Chief and Pangaea sound asleep, despite the coffee and midnight snack. The movers agreed to Brit's plan with a nod.
Brit laid down on the sofa. He looked at the ceiling, blankly. He remembered the days that they played in the house, Chief and him. They also finished High School there, all the while ignoring HIM. When they went into college in the city, they moved to Central. As the name suggests, it's the center for many things. Trade, tourism, vacation spots, and, of course, education. In Central, education was the best. Being taught from culinary to military, it was available. Of course, he chose his dream. It took a while, a few years that is, but here he was. He wanted to be in the more actioned pack city if he were to be more honest with himself. More emergencies, albeit some of the emergencies were rather just minor things and nothing that huge.
Brit sighed. He thought about HIM. His best friend before that time: Cadmium, or Cad for short. Nowadays, Brit frowns upon that name. When he hears it, his mood changes either to a sad one, a quiet one, or an angry mood.
Brit and Cadmium were the best of friends. Chief was only introduced later in their friendship, when they were in the sixth grade. Chief moved there with his brother because his brother needed to work in the near clinic and old home. They moved right next door to Brit's house, while Cad lived not far from them; about three streets down the road. They all became friends, but Cad and Brit were like brothers. However, one day, Cad decided to do something... unprecedented. On a Friday after school, he asked Brit to meet him in the forest alone. Brit did so, because he trusted Cad. No one knew why Cad wanted to meet Brit in the forest and it was strange since, Cad never liked going into the forest because he found the area "mysterious" and "off". Brit did go to the forest alone, but he had no idea Chief was following him. Chief knew something was off and wrong when Brit took a turn to the forest before going home.
Unlike the usual friend, Chief had this sense in him where he knew something was wrong. He followed Brit to the outskirts of the forest silently, barefoot so as not to make any sound. He peeked from trees that were behind Brit to see where he was going. He was following Brit behind when Brit suddenly looked behind. It was a good thing that was behind a tree that time and made no noise or Brit would've been suspicious. Brit then heard his name said by Cad. Brit turned around and he grunted. Chief heard it. He peeked and saw Cad punching and kicking Brit. He closed his mouth as to not make any sound. He then heard a few other voices. They were applauding Cad. Chief took a look again and saw the Eighth Graders. These people were troublemakers and usually rebellious. "Good job, Cad!" one said. "You can join us now," another said.
Chief knew he needed to do something. Fortunately enough, he has a talent: to make animal sounds. But what sound would be sufficient? "Just kick him until he bleeds and you're in..." another eighth grader said. Chief needed to act fast. He suddenly knew what sound to make: a grizzly bear sound. He imitated the sound of a grizzly's roar so loud that it echoed through the forest. Everyone was startled and became afraid. They all ran, even Cad, into the forest.
Chief immediately went to aid Brit. "Can you stand up?" Chief asked Brit. Brit was too weak to answer verbally, but he was able to nod a bit. "Then you're not standing up. I'm lifting you up. You're too weak right now and I can't have you collapsing," Chief said.
Chief dragged Brit to the tree he hid behind. "Did you make that sound?" Brit asked weakly. "Yeah," Chief answered. Brit scoffed a bit. "Thanks," he said. Chief looked at Brit with pity. He knew he had to get Brit to his house. His brother knows how to help Brit.
Chief did bring Brit to his house, and his brother took care of the beaten up friend. After attending to his needs, Brit fell asleep. "What happened?" Chief's brother asked. "I'll tell as long as you won't tell the others. It'll be controversial," Chief replied. "Okay. I won't tell anyone else," his brother said.
Chief went into full detail on what happened. His brother listened all the way through. After the explaining, Brit woke up. He tried to sit up but he was stopped by Chief's brother. "Hey, Brit! Just lay down. You're still injured," he said. Brit followed orders and laid down on the couch. "Just a couple of hemato-- bruises. Bruises, I mean," he said. Silence filled the room. It was only for a few seconds, but it felt like it lasted for an hour. Chief's brother then said something. "Hey Brit, to everyone else, we'll say that you just had a fall accident. This secret is only for us. As for the Eight Graders and Cad..."
"Don't even mention his name," Brit said. "I trusted him. He was like a brother to me..."
"Look. I'll try to get to the bottom of this..."
"Nah. If he wanted to be a troublemaker, then be it. I would've let him be. But why beat me up? Why involve me in this?"
"Brit..."
"I don't want to hear his excuses. I'm never forgiving him. End of story. Period," Brit said.
Brit sighed. He looked at the time on his watch. It was already 3:41 in the morning. Brit took his phone and set the alarm for 6:30 A.M. After fixing his alarm, Brit closed his eyes and slowly drifted away.
Brit saw himself laid down in a field of golden grass. Was the grass dead? No. He touched it and it felt like actual grass. Brit stood up slowly. The grass reached up to his waist. He took a look around. "What is this place?" he asked himself. He saw what looked like a hill in the far distance. On that hill was a tree. Brit squinted at the hill and tree. He saw something...no... someone. Brit tried walking to the hill. Midway his walk, he heard a loud screech. The sound came from above, and above he looked. Above was a humanoid figure with wings descending at him at a fast speed. Before he could run, he once more heard the deafening, killer screech. This time it echoed so much it hurt his hearing. He tried covering his ears and pushed harder on them, but he could still hear the echoes of the ghastly scream. He looked once more to the skies and he saw dark purple and red glowing eyes staring at him. One more time, Brit heard the death screech as if it was near his ears, yet it was even louder than ever before.
Brit woke up with a shock. He was sweating so much and he smelled. Brit looked at the time. He was pulling his phone when...
BZZT! BZZT! BZZT...!
It was already 6:30 in the morning. He woke up earlier than the alarm for once. Well, by seconds, at least. Brit tried to think of what to do. He stood up and stretched for a bit when his stomach rumbled. "I'm hungry. Wait, didn't Mrs. Janice's nephew said that the bakery is opened by six? Might as well buy a few breads from there!" Brit said to himself.
